To me, it's not about gadgets, it's about having powers that are integral to oneself.

Not that gadgeteers aren't good characters o'course, but such characters in the comics usually also have an unnaturally high IQ, at least. Look at Reed Richards

Yeah, I don't want to have to call "Supertech support" while I'm busy saving the city

"Thank you for calling Supertech support. I'm Bob, how can I help you today?"

"Hi, this is Mr. Awesome. My exo suit seems to be shutting down. Help!"

"Alright sir, I'm going to ask you a few questions. Are you -in- the exo suit currently?"

"YES. I'm trying to hold up a bridge!"

"Please don't yell, sir. Did you try turning the exo suit off and restarting?"

"Hello? Holding up a bridge right now. Lives will be lost..."

"I understand, sir. Are you getting a low buzz sound?"

"No. More like a frzzz sound."

"Don't jump ahead sir. Are you getting a redlight in your optics?"

"No. OH #$#$, I think I Just let a car slip off to the left."

"Sir? The optics"

"No red!"

"Is there a frzz sound?"

"..."

"Sir?"

"YES, I told you that."

"You have a wiring problem sir. You're going to have to get out of the suit, open it up, and tell me what you see."

"Are you nuts? I'm IN THE SUIT, holding up a bridge. If I COULD Step out, I wouldn't. People are going to die...y'know what? Screw it. I'm going to divert excess power from the communications that I'm using to talk to you and try to use it to supplement the exo skeleton."

"Sir, you are jumping way ahead here and.."

*CLICK*

"Sir? Sir? Oh well, I tried to help"

*Bob takes next call*

"Thank you for calling Supertech support. I'm Bob, how can I help you today?"

It is looking like Science and Technology are actually getting ahead of Comic Books. :hush:

...

So, how are we to keep Superheroes fantastic now? :hush:

Five words: Large Hadron Collider. God Particle.

The technology stuff is fine. This is the 21st Century. We're supposed to have all that stuff. In fact, some early Legion of Super-Heroes stories were set in the 21st Century, not the 30th.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that Silver Age time travel usually involved whole centuries, they were probably in the 2050s, rather than the present. Still, it's fifty years since 1958, so you could probably get away with now being "the future".
