Re: Naruto Character Write ups

I was talking about the anime. I've never read the manga (I really don't have that much interest in reading manga oddly enough) but I enjoy the show and planned to have some homages show up in a game eventually I figured you didn't have much interest in it or you would have done write ups or mentioned plans to do so at some point. I only noted that I had stopped by your site because it's often suggested as a first step (many times by me) and it's one I'd tried.

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

I think Naruto has more depth and characterization than DBZ (which I enjoyed as straight action show), never cared for One Peice (the anime at least was a little light for my tastes and seemed to be almost a comedy that occasionally tried to be serious). Bleach was interesting a first but I lost track quickly (missed huge numbers of episodes) and never felt the drive to try and catch up.

Naruto struck me as some-what 'run-of-the-mill' action and I'd seen plenty of that in DBZ. One Piece was too silly for my tastes, even with pirates. Bleach had the whole ghost-hunter thing going for it (IMO). And, in all cases, I'm talking about the manga.

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

I could take a poke or two at it, if you want, nexus. Could you prioritize the characters you want, though? The 'Central Cast' is at least 16 characters (the Leaf Genin (and 1 chunin), Kakashi, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru). :)

'Cause if left to my own devices, Neji's going first. :)

P.S. I'll be doing it properly Americanized, too ... given names first, English dub names for Jutsus, etc.

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

I've thought about it' date=' or similar, once or twice. The two big pains in the butt are going to be Naruto's Multi-Shadow Clone jutsu and the Sharingan (aka the Deus Ex Machingan). Emosuke really hit the superpower lottery ...[/quote']On Multi-Shadow Clones: Wouldn't Summon work well? I suppose you could use some sort of Duplication, but Summon seems to fit better to me. And x1024 copies is only 50 points. :)

On the Sharingan: Step 1 - whatever you use in Champions to make someone who copies powers. Step 2 - Telepathy (based on CON?). Step 3 - Mental Illusions (based on CON?), maybe with linked STUN Drain or Ego Attack. [some of these Sasuke doesn't have (yet), in the English broadcast at least. I think.] What else am I forgetting?

Re: Naruto's Shadow Clones

I'd be tempted to write them up partially with Duplication with the Limitation that they vanish if they take -any- damage but largely used them as a Special effect for things like bonuses to skills (like searching for thing), limited Clairvoyance, Area of Effect Probaby Selective or "Can be blocked") or maybe just OCV only levels due to "Team work" that Cost End, Visible/Physical Manifestation or Autofire attacks, etc with Physical Manifestation (again easily dispelled by inflicting damage). I'd probably lean more towards the latter solution in fact because it feels more "accurate" to how uses them most of the time than actual Duplication.

Edit: Seems like using SFX: Lots of Duplicates as much as possible would be easier to handle in game than actually running the small army he seems to be able create as individuals too.

Indeed. It amuses me that Naruto is a living example of the Law of Conservation of Ninjitsu; one ninja is deadly serious, a thousand is a joke. When he Multi-Shadow Clones a small army, he's utterly useless. When he stops at around 5, he's frickin' dangerous (Na-Ru-To Uzumaki Barrage, anyone?).

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

For these characters, you might need to give them a Variable pool to represent Jutsus they have learnt. Ones they specialise in are outside the pool and cost more.

How many points we talking? Even though they are teens, I've seen Sasuke do some very powerful stuff against his older brother and when fighting Naruto. And don't even get me started on Naruto's Summoning. Oy vey. So Standard Superhuman level at least.

Neji might be easier to build. I just need to work on his martial arts. Then Sakura...What makes her special? She has good Chakra control. How do we represent that? Reduced Endurance? Increased Endurance on Naruto to Contrast, but he has a Huge END reserve.

Depends when in the series you want to build the characters. It's official that Sakura was weak and underpowered during the first part of the show. Her role at that point is the Hermione-Grainger-I-Actually-Studied-Hard-and-Know-All-the-Book-Knowledge one, which does tend to be a little weak in a fight. Later on, after the story jumps past a year or so of training, she actually gets at least two levels in bada**. At that point, she's a crazy good medical ninja, as well as comic book level brick, with at least a few brick tricks, like punching down stone walls. Her chakra control makes her good at healing jutsu, which apparantly require a high degree of control to do at any combat useful speed. It also lets her have reduced END on her STR, as opposed to increased END costs like most characters would have to learn it.

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

Later on' date=' after the story jumps past a year or so of training, she actually gets at least two levels in bada**.[/quote']

The same thing that makes her a good medical ninja lets her use the super strength. In essence she can do like Neji and super focus chakra in her hands in order to manipulate her strength. Also something she was always good at but rarely comes up is with Genjutsu. She can normally recognize things as being illusions more readily than her classmates. Also she is more capable of dispelling such effects as well. She justly deserves many Non-combat medical skills. Such as, Knowledge: Poisons, Herbology, Bio, Chem, anatomy, SS: Pathology, Pharmakinetics, ect.

Also for Naruto I wouldn't use Duplication for the most part. Because (baring GM handw ave) if you lose your duplicate then it is gone forever. IE Duplicate have an actual final death. Summon doesn't have this limitation to my knowledge. Also in regards to the use of the clones. Naruto is somewhat of a special case in their use. As you rarely see a reduction is overall power / energy levels when he splits. Even when you see him split into large groups his loss in fighting ability is more a result in being crowded than actually not being capable. This is important because if you build the Clone as used by anyone else you might call it a Multiform with a triggered Summon. The multiform is just a half again as powerful and capable version of yourself but with a summon that is identical to yourself. This would also be capable of being presented as a limitation on the Summoning that stipulates a power reduction to all abilities in proportion to the number of clones generated.

Also I would recommend that you build a medium size cosmic VPP for him to represent various clone tricks. Like scaling a building. Or throwing himself back on a ledge or well you get the idea. It might also be recommended that he has a Multi-form as well. THis would be his Beast form. It might even be wise to build them as 4 (the max he has used) for each tail he grows. As his power levels changes drastically and some of the chakra powers he has access to change as well. At Level four he actually burns off his skin and becomes near pure chakra, for example.

I would normally work most of the powers as being VPP for Sasuke. He can use such a wide range that it is the only real way to mimic his Sharingan. I would also say you might need to build a lot of his normal powers on their own. As he has next to no limit to their use (with a possible exception of Raikiri, but it hasn't been confirmed if it is still limited). Rightly so he also deserves many combat skill levels. Also depending on what version of the character you still are working with, you might want to have a Multi-form. Although the most current character doesn't have the curse on him anymore so it all depends (or at least I think it was force off). It would be justified in giving him 'Find weakness' and various analyzes.

If you are interested in reading the Manga as it comes out, like I do, you can visit http://groups.msn.com/NarutoMangaREturns?PHPSESSID=747d1e20c288818b401c240d784206b3. They put out the next edition almost every Friday. Also there is a great place to download the episodes of Bleach and Naruto online as they come out in Japanese (english sub). If interested just PM me.

Re: Naruto Character Write ups

On further consideration, I was wrong in my last post. The thing that Sakura's chakra control gives her in regards to super-strength is that she can just use it subconciously, without having to pull out the gestures, incantations, and extra-phase to activate it before each punch. The amount of chakra consumed by it is a secondary benefit, really.

You might even want to make the chakra suppression require a successful detect roll. [edit] May also link it to a HtH attack as it can deal damage as well [end edit] Also the Blind spot on the Byakugan is very hard to get. I don't know if it is really a limitation greater than 0. But those are just my views. Also is suppress naturally AOE? I don't have my book near me and as such lack anyway to double check that.

Great Job!

Not certain if was your intent but Find Weakness doesn't make it any easier for the character to hit they may do more damage when they do though.
