Michael Hopcroft
A few questions come to mind in anticipation of my getting the Champions book. One is how to build a super-exorcist, a character whose emphasis is getting rid of bad effects and breaking possessions. Perhaps she's an anti-mage who specializes in undoing spell effects, or she could be someone who breaks Mind Controls like they were made of crepe. In any case, she has the power to bring people back to themselves after they've been undesirably influenced by magic, psionics, or super-tech. Any suggestions? Especially if you want to make her a viable PC despite the specialized nature of her powers?
Escafarc
Re: A Super-Exorcist Well it depends on how demonic/spirt possessions are defined in game terms. Otherwise as a start I wpuld start with: Aid only to restore to original levels and Dispel at the +2 level of Advantage
gabriel17
Re: A Super-Exorcist High PRE is a must, maybe with the limitation only versus Demons/Spirits.
Ice9
Re: A Super-Exorcist A basic set of dispelling options: Fast: Dispel Thorough: Dispel, with lots of Cumulative Restore: Healing Reformat: Transform (for those effects that can't be dispelled) As for being a viable PC, I would extrapolate some more powers from the SFX used in the uncursing. A holy exorcist? Maybe some group buffs and evil smiting. A psychic surgeon? Other mental powers. A spellbreaker? Pre-emptively messing up foe's magic, or maybe having a stockpile of dangerous artifacts you've confiscated. The alternate route would be to just give the character enough training and gear to be competent when not using their powers. Even in a Champions-level game, you can get fairly far with Combat Luck, enough CSLs, and military gear.
Lucius
Re: A Super-Exorcist Would that be someone that exorcises superbeings? "In the name of Wertham I rebuke you! Be gone with your capes and sinister masks and seductively fantastic powers! The power of the Kefauver Subcommittee compels you!" Okay, seriously, I know that's not what you mean. Regarding what you do mean - what is the distinction between this character concept, and a paladin? Lucius Alexander Putting a palindromedary on a program of diet and exorcise. Michael Hopcroft
Re: A Super-Exorcist Regarding what you do mean - what is the distinction between this character concept, and a paladin? Well, there aren't that many true paladins running around Millennium City, are there? Which a super=-exorcist might have Paladin abilities in addition, there are other forms of the character type that have different power sets. Take, for example, a renegade demon fighting his kind. Badger
Re: A Super-Exorcist Well, it wouldnt be a fighting power. But, the ability to detect demonic auras to a ridiculous amount would be a good addition.
Matt Holck
Re: A Super-Exorcist Curse and Possessions 3 Paramedics "understand the basics of curse and possession ailments" 3 Lock Picking "creating the keys to undo curses" 3 Security Systems "familiarity with resistances of possessions" 3 Intimidation "force spirits out by force of will" 3 Escape Artist "help the possessed slip free of their controller"
