death tribble
Sharpe's Rifles by Bernard Cornwell The first of Sharpe's adventures in Spain. This is not the first of the Sharpe books and differs from the TV series in that Sharpe is already an officer having saved Wellington in India. Sharpe is introduced to the Rifles and is not well liked. He teams up with a Spanish major to reach Santiago de Compostela and unveil a flag in order to inspire the Spanish people. The major's brother is working with the French and is out to stop him. It is a very simple story and it is good
death tribble
The Furies by John Connolly Two novellas written by John Connolly during the lockdown of 2020. In the first, The Sisters Strange, Charlie Parker is asked to investigate when two sisters are menaced by an odd man. A coin collector is dead and what was stolen he needs back. The thieves are also menaced by the odd man. In the second story, The Furies, two women are individually menaced by men. One of them has had the possessions of their dead child stolen by two men who want her to reveal the whereabouts of her late husband's ill gotten gains. And the second woman is being menaced by her partner so her mother has asked Charlie to help the woman run away. Both stories have the trademark supernatural touch common to the Charlie Parker universe, the second story being more of a ghost story. I liked it but then again I am biased as I like series
