Warning: This character write-up is complicated to the max. It took me a long time to convert it and add things to it to satisfy myself, and give her a 'Queen Berly/Queen Metalica" vive to her, and I still not exactly satisfied. She is meant to be over powerful, but still have enough weaknesses to her. Comments and opinions welcomed.

Background/History: It was so long ago. But Queen Nightmara remembered it as if it was yesterday. The great battle against the dimentinal beast which eats Godstones. All her friends fell, and all she could do was to run away before she became the next meal for the beast.

 

It was in running away where she met Monsterin, a former demon mage now fused into his cloak and staff and imprisoned in the deepest, darkest cave. Afraid and powerless, she freed Monsterin from it's prison. And in exchange for the kindness, Monsterin showed her a greater power, one which she could only access by breaking her own Godstone and reshaping it into the Eye of Darkness.

 

Returning to the place where her fellow dimentinal guardians fell, she destroyed the beast easly (as it dismissed her cause he could no longer sence she had a Godstone, and this, not food for it). Then, she turned against her own people, who ridiculed her for running away from the beast. Because her new power involved feeding upon dark emotions, and the more dark emotions there are around her, the more powerful she became, nobody in her home dimention could stop her. Even Monsterin bowed down to her (well, he was more of a toady than a master of dark forces anyways...if is just that he needed to find a worthy mistress for him to follow).

 

After destroying the population of her own dimention, she and Monsterin left it and moved on to the next dimention...and the next...and the next...till she arived at her curent dimention of Teroka. Killing and reserecting four of the five guardians (The Court Of Teroka), she feed upon the population while Lady Heart sacrificed her Godstone to keep hope alive in Teroka, by finding a sutible host on Earth.

 

Recently Queen Nightmara's servents tracked the lost Godstone to Earth. And the protental for dark emotions caused the dark queen to lick her lips in anticipation. If it wasen't for thoes pesky guardians, both magical and normal superpowered...

Personality/Modivation: Her only concern is for the next meal. She will do anything, say anything, to enjoy another's dark emotions and feast upon it. She cares for nothing else.

 

She pretends to be a noble ruler, but is far from it. She is hated and feared by most of her subjects. She kills a sentient as easly as you and I squish a bug. If it fules the hate or fear she feeds upon, then so be it.

 

She perfers to let her agents/Nightmarans (monsters which were originaly unliving objects transformed Sailor Moon style into creachers) do her work for her, as she is (in her mind) to important to handel directly any task but to feed. Also, the curent levels of Light Emotions on Earth pervents her from physicaly being in that dimention for long (this is a plot device, as opose to a limitation/complication). Once her agents 'seasion' the dimention enougth with sorrow and suffering, she can stand upon it for a long time and start feeding. Once that happens, she fill make one final 'pig out' in Teroka and leave it for rulling Earth.

 

Her atention on Earth is twofold. One, it contains enougth sentiant beings to make a flaverful psychic dish for herself, once it is 'seasioned' enougth. Second, that is where the original Godstone of the last guardian of Teroka, Lady Heart, went to. She is awair that there is a new Lady Heart, and she wants that Godstone for her own (to transform it to become Lady Hate).

 

Once on Earth as it's ruller, she will feed upon it till she is more than full, then seek another dimention with huge protental of dark emotions in it. And this begins the cycle again, as it has in the past. Cause missery and suffering till the population does not recover, then leave it for other dimentions to feed upon.

Powers/Tactics: Queen Nightmara can feed off of negitive emotions to increse her magical might. She can manipulate and read emotions, shoot beams of emotions which can wrap around targets, drain thier energys, and even harm or kill outright. She can reserect the dead, but only in targets which whom she had killed in the first place, and only if she poseses their Godstone. She can also corupt the Godstones of others.

 

One of her more mighty of powers is to absorb the surounding dark emotional energys around her to grow into a gigantic size.

 

Also, she has control over her own shatered Godstone (now refered to as the Eye Of Darkness), enabling her to view into other dimentions, send her image and voice into other dimentions (Image), and even to shoot destructed emotinal beams into that other dimention (the nakid Transdimentinal advantage).

 

Tacticly, she perfers to have her minions do the dirty work while she waits and watches. That dosen't mean she is a pushover in combat. Far from it. It is just that everyone is beneath her. Woe to the hero who gords her into fighting by calling her week and lazy.

 

Weeknesses: Queen Nightmara has one big weekness...powers based on positive emotions hurt her. Even gesters of good emotions hurt her (like kissing and hugging). Note: theas gesters need to have real emotion in them to work. Hugging in frount of her will only hurt her if both parties feal positive emotions to each other.

Campain Use: Queen Nightmara is ment to be one of thoes big badies you see at the end of vareous superhero magical girl anime and manga. Scary, powerful, but also with a big akilies heal the size of a mac truck. When your heros finaly encounter her, it singles an end to a major story ark or campain. This, she and her henchmen should not be used casualy.

 

It is posable to redeam Queen Nightmara. In order to do so, one has to go through an epic quest to find enougth shards of her old Godstone which is not part of the Eye Of Darkness, purge the darkness from them, and reintergate the pieces to the Eye Of Darkness. Not an easy task (in fact, it is much like the journy to Mount Doom to toss the One Ring into the lava).

 

She is not ment to be more powerful. To weeken her, just reduce and/or remove some of her powers till she feals like the heros can bairly handle her. Do not touch her "Back For More Suffering" and "Corupt Godstone" powers, since they are their as physical manifications of plot devices.

 

Queen Nightmara will hunt foes who best her servents. Mostly with other servents, as acualy appearing in frount of lessers is beneath her. Mostly, her agents will try to mess around with the target's joyful emotions. But piss the queen enougth, and the servents will not hesitate to kidnap the target and take them back to Teroka so the queen can enjoy the charater's demise herself.

 

Apperance: Queen Nightmara is both beutiful and scary at the same time, with white skin, black eyes, long to the floor black hair. She wears regal clothing at all times in somber colors. She keeps her fingernails long. When she uses her growth power, her clothing also expands.

Power Breakdown:

 

"Back For More Suffering": This is a limited healing/reserection power, based on the queen getting the target's Godstone. Since not all magical girl charaters use Godstones, this is not always doable. This is a plot device power (asume it always works on the target).

 

Corupt Godstone: The main plot device power which turns good magical girls to evil, asuming that they use Godstones as a power source. The requierments are that Queen Nightmara kills the target, then gets the Godstone (which is the only thing left after she kills the target). Then she uses "Back For More Suffering" on the target, then this three stage Transformation power. It is capable of warping bodys, if it can repersent a dark emotion (for example, Lady Lie gains another mouth, on the back of her head, and extendable tounge, while Lady Greed gains a hidden third arm).

 

The Terrable Magic Of Dark Emotions: Basicly her workhourse powers, not only do they cover blasts of pure dark emotions, but also mind control and telepathy also (othoe limited in both). Most (but not all) powers in the multipower can be incresed in the right enviroment (only slot 1, an Aid, and slot 5, an Entangle, have no boost). 

 

Sometimes Bigger Is Better/Her Physical Size Is Inverse To The Size Of Her Heart/Huge Hands: Inspiered by the final battle between Sailor Moon and a Metalica posessed Queen Berly, Queen Nightmara can grow to extreme hights depending on the level of dark emotions in the area she is at. This even modifies her energy attacks (Sometimes Bigger Is Better).

 

Strong Protective Magic: She would be a fool to go out without haveing magic modifie her defences. Unforcently for her, she is defensless to magic based on positive emotions.

 

Dimentinal Walk, Mystical Floating, Mystical Fadding: Typical movement magic for someone of her class.

 

Mystical Awairness, Emotinal Awairness: Again, imagien someone of her caliber unable to sence magic, let alone emotions.

 

The Eye Of Darkness (Vewing Through The Eye Of Darkness, Blasts From The Eye Of Darkness, Visions From The Eye Of Darkness): The Eye Of Darkness, which is in reality pieces of her shatered Godstone, alowes her to see what is hapening on other dimentions, punish her servents who fail her while they are in another dimention, and even project her image and voice to the beings of that other dimention. In other words, abilities a mystical threat should have.

 

The Power Of Dark Emotions: Basicly, energy from being around dark emotions.

 

Life Of A Major Mystical Being: What mystical force would be complete without Life Suport?

 

Linking With Her Servents: She needs not send the Eye Of Darkness to contact The Court Of Hate.

Campain Knowlage Check: Basicly, only KS: The Mystic World would give any knowlage of Queen Nightmara.

 

No Roll: No Information, unless the GM says otherwise (and then only to say that yes, she exists).

 

Exacte: Queen Nightmara is a mystical being which has ruled many a dimention throuout time. It is said that she feeds on negitive emotions.

 

+2: She has vareous servents. Her monsters are called Nightmarieans. Her major domo is a being known only by the name Monsterin.

 

+4: She can corupt good magical girl. She is curently served by four coroupted magical girls, named the Court Of Hate.

 

+6: She can only corupt a source of magic called a Godstone.

 

+8: She can turn into a giant, if conditions are right.

 

+10: Her weakness is powers based on positive emotions. Also, gesters of positive emotions done in frount of her hurt her.

But I didn't want a commentary from you but from others. And I wrote her a long time ago.

 

And forgive me for being slightly flippant, but you and PhantomGM2602 are a bit too close to this villain to be objective. Also, I would love to hear from others on what they would do differently, how I could (assuming I was the GM) mod her for a non-magical girl style campainge, etc.

 

I would also like @DShomshak's opinion on the character, as he has a magical girl in his current Advent Guard campaign.

It would be wonderful to receive a writeup for Queen Nocturna, as I still haven't written up the Big Bad foe of my campaign's magical girl PC. Her two children/chief lieutenants Prince Balthazat Blackheart and Princess Shadira, yes; but not Nocturna herself.

I like this character a lot.

 

The writeup is long, but not as complicated as it first seems. Queen Nightmara has a pretty focused set of Powers, it's just that how much of them she can use (especially the Growth) varies by surroundings and circumstance, which leads to a lot of bookkeeping in the writeup. In practice, one would likely keep character sheets for each level of Growth and shuffle between them as needed.

 

No VPP to paper over gaps in writeup! VPPs, now *those* get complicated when you actually sit at the gaming table.

 

A surprising amount of world-building implicit in the writeup itself. Like, this is a setting where magical girls have powers/identities based on emotions; and each has a Godstone that is in some way connected to their powers and their lives.

 

I'm impressed. I will not be porting Queen Nightmara whole into my campaign as Queen Nocturna, the big bad enemy for Princess Moonray, but I am learning from the character and writeup. Well done, and thank you.
