It would apear Turkey Island in the Detroit River is for sale...

No, really.

While none of us (I imagine) are going to purchasing the real thing, it occured to me that maybe in our gameworlds, Millennium City might be putting this puppy up for grabs as well.

Want a base that's close, but somewhat more secure than a down town location? Build it here. Sure, the other heroes might tease your team for having a 'turkey of an HQ', but with hard work, perseverance (And some high tech to drain the swampy parts if so inclined) you will soon have the public calling it "(Fill in your Team's name) Island" Instead :)

Humm, seems like there would be some problems if you operate in Millennium City but your base is in Canada.

Mmm, well, considering Windsor is only right across the river from MC, I don't know if it's that bad... but good point.:shrugs:

If you feel Millennium City is too far away, defend Windsor ;)

It would make for a nice base for a Canadian superteam handling the villain overflow from Millennium City. ;)

Certainly, though, there must be available islands on the American side of the border, and if not it would be easy to justify one that's not on the maps. Heck, maybe a new island was raised by seismic upheaval after Dr. Destroyer levelled Detroit. It could even contain the remains of some of the Doctor's underground Detroit facilities, providing the readymade foundations for a base. (Of course Dr. D might one day be interested in reclaiming his property...)

It's not the distance. Wondering if this might be better for a villian group? Don't know how relations stand between US and Canada in the CU, but interesting if the villians can run amok in Millennium City, and retreat to Turkey Island, where no sanctioned US hero has authority to arrest them. Long as they don't commit a crime on the Canadian side of the line, they're safe!

Hmm, that has posiblities.

Either that, or I could have Foxbat "Claim" the island, and create "Foxbaturga" then petition the UN....

nah.

Our campaign is based in a fictionalized Detroit (but NOT the MC version) so I had to read a good bit on it when starting up. I don't have the reference anymore, but it's fairly common to work in one city and live in the other, so there are preexisting real world arrangements you could extend to superhero sanctioned activities.

Of course if they're unsanctioned it's irrelevant. I'd hand-wave the border crosssing, assuming they come up with some halfway reasonable explanation (a tunnel, whatever).

Hey, McCoy, when you gonna change your sig?

Not really. There are many cases of American criminals being caught in Canada and extradited back to the US for trial. Besides, the Canadian government is hardly going to allow dangerous criminals to flee into Canadian territory without at least attempting to capture them. Most likely, after the third or fourth time trying that stunt the villains would have a Canadian superteam waiting on the border to pound them.

On the other hand, Pancho Villa raided New Mexico and retreated accross the Mexian border with impunity. Which is why I prefaced my remarks with "Don't know how relations stand between US and Canada in the CU . . .." Yes, they would not get away with it in our reality, but relations between US and Canada may not run as smoothly in all realities.

In Disney's Blackbeard's Ghost, a mob boss wanted to run the Daughters of the Buccaneers off their little island hotel because in 200 years nobody resolved which state's jurisdiction it fell under. The mob boss thought that would make it perfect for his new illegal gambling casino. I thought it was an interesting way for a villain to operate openly but keep the government tied up in court.
