Lord Liaden
It can also be an impressive gimmick for superheroes to have nicknames or titles in addition to their code names, when they're particularly meaningful and resonant. Like The Man of Steel The Dark Knight The God of Thunder The Sorceror Supreme The Man Without Fear
Christopher
Batman. His gimmick is bats. It's not directly related to what he can do. The only possible benefit is psychological impact. But it makes him distinct. But he takes the gimmick to the hilt. He has batarangs, a batmobile, a batjet, a batcave, a batsignal.... Even his skillset follows that Gimmick: He is a "terror that salks the night". Bats are night active and near undetectable till they are right on top of you. So he focuses on stealth and surprise, rather then brute strenght. Later replaced by the more familiar: "In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might Beware my power--Green Lantern's light!" This is a gimmick, if there is only one green latern. Once you get a few of them together, they need new Gimmicks: All 3 (4) human GL's are bit different Killowog is the drill-sergeant whose planet was lost "Mogo doesn't socialise" I know little of the other non-human laterns aside from cartoons/Animated Series
pinecone
what is a good gimmick for a martial artist ? Sounding like a fortune cookie, dressing like a Ninja...using a borderline impractical weapon...dressing as a Luchador...?
Houston GM
what is a good gimmick for a martial artist ? Being an Australian ninja? "Good gimmick" is subjective. I can give you a list of gimmicks. Decide for yourself what is good. be a smart*** (very common, so you may need a second gimmick) an exceptionally distinctive feature (Beaumains, Bluebeard, Rapunzel) an animal-based theme dressing like Elvis / Elton John / Liberace practice a Western martial art (savate, sambo, krav maga, capoeira, etc.) follow a Western religion or philosophy (Presbyterian, Sufi, Morrigan, Pan, Hacidic Judaism, utilitarianism, stoicism, etc.) your own theme music limit your dialogue to fortune cookie sayings or be an Australian ninja

Jade sickle the style favoured by the temples farmers wielding farming tools turned weapons sickle, nu-chuck, pitch fork and tonfa.
