Scott Anderson
How do you build snake repellant as a power? My first thought is that it's Animal Handler (snakes), OIF, Charges... but that seems a little slow in a tight situation. What do you think? L. Marcus
Mind Control, CON Based, Set Command ("Be Repelled!").
Lucius
Striking "Appearance" (scent) High bonus, limited group, perhaps with a Limitation "only to drive off." And of course, Focus, Charges, etc. Lucius Alexander In return for considerations, the palindromedary wears a billboard advertising St Patrick's Brand Snake Repellent. Or a Change Environment to an environment snakes do not like (repellent smell, temperature drop, etc). - E
Scott Anderson
So we write it like this: I Keep Snake Repellant on My Utility Belt: Mind Control 6d6, based on CON (+1), Limited Class (ophidia, -1), Limited Effect ("be repelled!", -1/2). OIF (snake repellant aerosol spray, -1/2), 4 Charges (-1), No Range (-1/2) Active: 60, Real 13.
Grailknight
+X PRE only vs Snakes, only for hostile PRE attacks, OAF and Charges.
Christopher R Taylor
Yeah I think I'd go with change environment, for this one
Scott Anderson
So what's the power look like as a Change Environment? As a PRE attack? Both make some sense.
Lucius
St Patrick's Brand Snake Repellent: (Total: 22 Active Cost, 5 Real Cost) +7/+7d6 Striking "Appearance" (Smells like mongoose) (vs. [snakes]) (14 Active Points); Limited Power Cannot use character's own PRE (-1 1/2), OAF (-1), Limited Power Only to drive away (-1/2), Unified Power (-1/4), 8 Continuing Charges lasting 1 Hour each (-0) (Real Cost: 3) plus "Use as Directed" Animal Handler (Reptiles) 12- (8 Active Points); OAF (-1), Limited Power Only to drive off (-1/2), Limited Power Just snakes (-1/2), Unified Power (-1/4), Extra Time (Full Phase to Read Directions, Only to Activate, -1/4), Conditional Power Needs light, must be literate in that language, etc (-1/4) (Real Cost: 2) Spraying this aerosol can around is a 7d6 PRE attack (plus whatever bonus for Exhibiting a Power, Surprise (the snakes probably aren't expecting it) etc) to drive snakes away. Fleeing snakes will avoid the area for at least an hour. Reading the directions first makes it more effective, enabling an Animal Handler roll at 19 or less (the Striking Appearance bonus +7 applies)that gives a +1d6 if the roll succeeds and +2d6 if the roll succeeds by half (standard rule for using PRE based Skills to help PRE attacks.) If the character has an applicable Animal Handling roll at 13 or better, use that instead and reading the directions is not necessary (the character already knows how to use such products effectively.) Lucius Alexander The palindromedary advises against trying it against Wyrms, Wyverns, Sea Serpents, and Serpent Folk
Scott Anderson
So is Striking Appearance a 6E thing?
L. Marcus
Yeah. It's basically Limited PRE as a Talent, and replaced COM.
eepjr24
Yes. Replaces COM and augments it in my mind. Appearance is controlled through it or complications that tell you specifically how groups react to your beauty / horrific scars / bizarre appearance. - E
Lucius
So is Striking Appearance a 6E thing? In Fifth Edition, use Limited PREsence. In fact, since Striking Appearance is a Talent, some would make the case that the version I did should have used Limited PRE too. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary buys Megascale PRE to have OmniPresence
Lucius
Snake-B-Gone Brand Snake Repellant: (Total: 40 Active Cost, 6 Real Cost) Change Environment (+1 Points of Damage, -1 to CON Roll, Long-Lasting 6 Hours), Area Of Effect (16 2m Areas; +1) (40 Active Points); Limited Power Only vs snakes (-2), 4 clips of 1 Charge (-1 1/4), OAF (-1), No Range (-1/2), Two-Dimensional (-1/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), Required Hands One-Handed (-0) (Real Cost: 6) Consisting of a spraying apparatus that comes with four canisters of poison, this device protects the effected area for up to six hours. Snakes in the area must make a CON roll at -1 or move away from the scent, and those unable or unwilling to move away will take 1 pt of BOD damage each Turn. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary does not suggest trying this against wyrms, naga, or lamia
