  1. Here's what I'm thinking - am I building this right? VPP - Special Effect: Pschic Powers for Which You Have the Right Focus 40 pt. Power Pool 20 pt. Control, Cosmic (+2), Very Limited Class of Powers (decided at character creation, from categories decided by GM, -1), Character Can Only Choose From Incredibly Limited Selection of Powers (-1)*, Real Cost: 20 Total: 60 Pts. * At any given time, the characters will only have 2-6 powers at their disposal, and this selection can be changed, 1 power at a time, about once a month. What I really wanted was a Multipower that can be changed once a month or so. Am I doing this right? Any thoughts? -cK
  2. I, for the life of me, cannot find the rules for giving bonuses to PER rolls. (Example: +3 to PER rolls with hearing to simulate super ears). Page number, please?
  3. In WotC's Book of Vile Darkness, there is a spell (I forget the name) that does crazy amounts of damage to the target's #1 loved one. How would we mimic that in HERO?
  4. IIRC, Les Miserables is a novel, and Les Mis is the musical adaptation. I also include musicals in the term "literary"
  5. After watching plenty of movies like Ocean's 11, and CONfidence, and The Italian Job (both versions), I wonder - has anyone here ever run a Con Artist HERO game? Full of death defying car chases, subtle social role-playing, hacking, breaking and entering, baiting and switching, and no guns. It seems like the genre's ripe for great characters - the kind-souled thief, etc. Anybody done this?
  6. So, I was explaining to my friend how HERO can be used to create any character, any genre. (He's only played AD&D 2nd Ed.) I make the comment that there is no literary figure that can't be recreated in HERO. His response? "Hey, can we play Les Mis HERO?" -cK
  7. For the first time, FRed's index has failed me. What is a compound power?
  8. The next challenge got lost, but here I'll repost it for the forum:
  9. I want to create a system for characters with psychic powers, augmented by foci (details to be decided). Now, there will be different psychic groups, like Pyrokinesis, Hydrokinesis, Telekinesis, etc. Now, using Pyrokinesis as an example, what I want to do is give everybody who wants to be a Pyrokinetic one or two base powers, like EB and Change Environment: Affect Normal Fires. This is the innate part of their powers. However, if they hold these focusing foci, they can alter their powers. Examples: Wall Focus: They can make walls of fire (or water, force, etc.) Armor Focus: Armor or Damage Shield or FF or whatever. Movement Focus: Teleport through Fire, or LS: Waterbreathing and Swimming, or Flight, or whatever. Weather Focus: Burning Meteors, or Rain Deluge, or Atmospheric pressures, etc. Burst Focus: Explosion, or Flood, or Force Wall Now, I want this to all be one power, I don't want the characters to have to buy an infinite number of powers (as I will always be introducing wall foci). I assume this is going to be a VPP of some sort, but I'm unsure of how to create it. Any help?
  10. Last night I went HERO crazy, designing all kinds of wacky stuff for an upcoming campaign. So I's gots lots o' questions for the boards. I want to create an NND for some powers with the defense being having any Mental Power or Mental Defense. Basically, if you've trained that aspect of your mind, you're immune to the attacks. Is that a broad enough defense for NNDs? -cK
  11. So, for the unitiated, what's everybody's beef with Damage Shield?
  12. The errata says that Cramming is not an intellect skill, but doesn't tell us what category Cramming does belong to. Steve?
  13. Round Two... FIGHT By the end of the summer, I intend to own both. But which should I buy first?
  14. I can't tell from the descriptions in the Online Store, so if somebody who owns both wouldn't mind answering the following question, I'd appreciate it very much: "What's the diff between Ninja Hero and Ultimate Martial Artist?" Thanks, -cK
  15. I've been familiarizing myself with the HERO system, and I'm loving it. My one dislike, though, is the hex system. I've never used one, but it seems much more cumbersome than using a grid. Why hexes instead of squares, and has anyone converted HERO into a grid system. It doesn't seem like it would take much work. Thanks, cK
  16. I have been reading the weapons in the Fifth Edition, and there is a column labeled "A/R Cost", and I cannot for the life of me figure out what this means. Help? And why does everyone refer to 5th Ed as Fred? Thanks in advance, cK
  17. I just started a HERO campaign. I wanted to run a post-apocalyptic campaign, but I just convinced my group to make the switch from 3E, but I still had a hard sell convincing them to give up fantasy. So, if you're players like fantasy, remind them that the flavor is very similar. 1.) Magic can easily become psionics. 2.) Zombies and skeletons quickly become droids, and orcs quickly become mutants. 3.) Thanks to the bomb and the sparseness of tech, melee weapons are back in style. 4.) Armor of Strength quickly becomes cyberware, etc. They were sold with a little convincing. Might want to remind them how flavor bleeds between genres.
  18. This is _incredibly_ solid. You have my respect. One piece of constructive criticism: Your racial packages include psychological limitations, that might not always be present. What if I wanted to play a Romulan raised by Klingons: Might I not then have a Warrior Code instead of a Sense of Duty? Just a thought.
