  1. Mr. Negative kind of beat me to it - I was going to ask how often in Conan/Kull the wizards were the good guys?
  2. Isn't InfraRed basically Heat Detection? That's how I always understood. That's why the Universal Soldier could hide himself in those car trunks full of ice. So, invisibility to IR would hide you from Heat Detection. Don't know what Snakes Thermo Since is. -cK
  3. While I think this would work in some other systems, the whole point of HERO is that is internally balanced. I would instead use a variant on the Rule of X, something saying that Total Points in Martial Arts + CSLs has to be less than one third of Powers, or something like that. -cK
  4. After reading some Goodkind, I was thinking about the Confessor power. How much Mind Control would it take to order someone to will themselves to death?
  5. So, I thought FH's Lingering was fantastic. Loved it. But I want to do something I've seen in a lot of other systems, and I can't figure out how to do it in HERO. FH has a spell called Arcane Eye. I want to do something at the master level. Basically, for those w/o FH, it's Detect Magic, discriminatory, analyze Now, I want to make this spell work so that the more time you look at an object, the more effective it is. So, you look at a sword, and you can detect that it's magic. A phase later, you can detect that it's imbued with fire magic. A bit later, you can detect that it can shoot a mid-level flame burst to a range of about thirty feet. The only way I can think of doing this is to buy Detect Magic, then buy Analyze with an extra time limitation, and Discriminatory with even more extra time. Is this the only way to do this? -cK
  6. I love the Magic Systems in FH. Love 'em. Great inspiration. However, I'm a libra, and I can't make decisions, can't choose. And I don't want to use multiple magic systems, because different systems don't work for my conception of magic. So, I'm creating my own, that allows for both foci and gestures, or no limitations whatsoever, or whatever you want. So, I'll post it soon. Has anyone else created a new magic system, since FH came out? Post it! -cK
  7. This is totally legal. If a character has a 45 point VPP (30 point Power, 15 point Control, assuming no control modifiers), he can spend 6 points to increase the Power Pool by 4 points (4 for the Power, 2 for the Control).
  8. Sorry 'bout that. I haven't actually played yet - preppin' for my first HERO GMin' experience. I'm going to spend a day running fake battles before I start, just to get used to the system. Yeah, I wanted the ability to do a classic counterspell effect. Wizard Willy goes "Abrakadaba" and Sorcerer Steve goes "Talk to the hand"
  9. Got to read the rules some more - Holding an Action.... Forgot about that. -cK
  10. Is there an Advantage to be able to make a Power Abort-to-able? I want to make a "Counter-spell" for my FH Campaign, and I want a Dispel that one can Abort to when someone else casts a spell. Can this be done? -cK
  11. Just realized that sounded harsh. Sorry.
  12. Not true. Fantasy HERO introduces the idea of characters using powers without paying the points for them. While you can use a VPP, FH also provides alternatives, including a Skill Based Magic System.
  13. It's worse in my game. There is no Fireball Skill. There is a Fire Magic skill, which allows the character to cast Fireball, Firebolt, Incinerate, Firewall, Body of Flame, etc. They can only cast spells they know, but they don't have to pay points for any of the spells, although they do have to buy Wizard Talents and the END Reserves to cast the spells. Now, this is fine for Dispel. But what about Drain? If the character only has a base 11- roll in Fire Magic, that's only 3 points. Draining 3 points is easy. Since all the spells (fully detailed by moi) have RASR, draining that 3 point skill will rob them of their magic. Other than Power Defense, is there anything else to do?
  14. Reading Goodkind, had a thought: How would you dispel, aid, transfer, whatever, against a Skill Based magic? They don't have any magic powers, they just have skill. Would you do it as a drain versus the skill, or what? And to adjust the skill, that wouldn't require much, because skills don't cost much. Maybe hardening the skill? Can you do that?
  15. Speaking of which, where was Terry in the Bibliography?!
  16. IIRC, it's Active Cost x 1,000 GP
  17. Help me, someone, please. I've looked over it a couple times, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the differences are, in layman terms. Someone please explain it to me? -cK
  18. Does the Andy's Time Chart discrepancy count as errata?
  19. Does Andy's Time Chart on page 83 of FHero seem off to you? A year has nine months, and divides it into three utams of four months each. Three times four is twelve. What does Andy base the year upon if not the change of seasons?
  20. Going to my FLGS to get it. Won't have time to post until it's done, so I thought I'd list it as "sighted" now. -cK
  21. Is it just me, or does this program make a lot of binary stars with a lot of tidally locked planets?
  22. I'd love it if I could have some of it - I'm working on a gritty space opera, and my tendency is for space opera, so any realistic stuff I could use to temper my instincts, I'd take it. Email me
  23. Black Panther for the Metamorph. He could meld with shadows - Desolidification, Teleport through shadows, grow and shrink as a shadow, susceptible to light, etc.
  24. I would be surprised if we didn't see a Fantasy Grimoire Online shortly after Fantasy Grimoire is released.
  25. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'm almost out of internet time (I only have the net at work). Apologies where needed. How would I make a character who could do super knockback? Like, I hit someone with my stick and they fly back three blocks, and fifty feet in the air? Is that just lots of increased knockback, or leaping UAA, or what?
