  1. Re: Master List of Limitations, HD Prefabs I have a PDF, already made. It is just over 2 MBs, as I stated, and it is made up nice (I had a lot of free time). Anyone who would like a copy just PM me with your email address and I will send you a copy.
  2. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie update In some ways, Wing of the Valkyrie remind me of The Proteus Operation by James P. Hogan, published in 1985. The idea is that there was an original timeline where there never was any Nazis only the forces of USA and USSR. This lead to world where the USSR collapsed early and the world developed into one great society. However, a number of elites in the original timeline disliked their loss of power in new world. With the creation of time travel, they when back in time and created a new timeline by backing a nobody called Hitler. This second timeline resulted in a world control by the Nazis expect for the lone holdout of North America lead by JFK. In this second timeline, JFK orders the creation of their own time travel technology and send agents back to stop the creation of his own timeline. Unfortunately, they fail to be able to go back far enough, so they cannot stop the raise of Hitler, but they do alter the outcome of the Second World War. This causes a third timeline, what we know as our own.
  3. Re: Karate Kid vs Karate Kid Val is official the greatest martial arts in the DC Universe, past, present or future. That has been stated in numberous official DC products over the years.

  5. Re: COPS, CREWS, AND CABALS -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  6. Re: COPS, CREWS, AND CABALS -- What Do *You* Want To See? I will be going over the same grounds as other but I just want to state what I personally like to see at some point. It is a shame that ARGENT and IHA will not be included but I understand that they deserve their own books. Hopefully they will be in print sooner rather than later. Speaking about absent organizations, PRIMUS should have been updated to the 5th Edition years ago. All three are too important to the Champions Universe to be left to the wayside for so long. On that tangent, we also need Stronghold and Golden Age Champions. As for the organizations planned so far, they all look good. Angelstone Laboratories – A replacement for Dr. McQuark, finally. Not that I have anything against the good doctor, but something more in line with DC Comics’ S.T.A.R. Labs is a good thing. Exoplanetary Society – Hope this a more neutral organization then M.E.T.E. or the Exterminators. It would be interesting if it different wings and completing factions. ICON – Sounds good, but hate the name. It is just as bad as the name IMAGE from the Mutant Files. Sickbay – Again good stuff. Similar to AP’s MetaDocs series or the medical role of S.T.A.R. Labs plays sometimes in DC Comics. The Timestream Buccaneers – Just was rereading my copies of X-Thieves and I have good memories of Time Bandits. Trans-City Construction – A better version of Marvel Comics’ Damage Control then Aftermath Inc., one can hope. Now Steve Long has stated that CCC is “not going to be a really large book,” but I hope he change his mind as there is so many organizations that could and should be covered. Tailor: • In the Flash comic books there was a tailor who made the costumes that his rogues gallery would wear. • Edna Mole from the Incredibles, the fashion designer to superheroes. • Marvel Comics’ the Wasp is similarly a fashion designer and she continuously modeled new costumes. Henchmen: • In Kim Possible, Jack Hench founded Hench Co., the leading supplier of henchmen and henchmen related products. Cult of the Red Banner: Yes, I know it is not going to be part of CCC, but I just want to add my voice to those who want to see it somewhere at somepoint. Meeting Grounds: Places where one can meet other super people. Some only for heroes, others only for villains and somewhere they mix. • Neutral Grounds give us Sanctuary. • In Marvel Comics criminals drink at the Bar with No Name. • Wildstorm has a bar in New York called Clark’s where the superpowered hang out. • Also in Wildstorm there is the town call Tranquility where both heroes and villains retire. • Astro City features the bar, Bruiser’s, and the private club, Bulter’s. • In DC Comics’ Identity Crisis, it is revealed that supervillains have meets at random places. Information Brokers: • The most famous is Oracle, the former Batgirl, and leader of Birds of Prey. • In DC Comics’ Identity Crisis, Batman’s old foe, the Calculator was reintroduced as the supervillain version of Oracle. • I believe it was from one of the GURPS Supers books that the concept of the Exchange was introduced. A clearing house of evil. Connects supervillains to those that want their services. Superhero Management Services: • People to look after various licensing right. For books, comic books, movies, television and toys. • Accountants to look after insurance, royalties and taxes. • PR agents. • Household staff. • Lawyers for criminal and civil matters. Legal Services for Supervillains: • Lawyers for criminal and civil matters. • Bail bonds agencies and their bounty hunters. Superpowers Support Society: Not everyone who develops superpowers dress up in long underwear and becomes a superhero or supervillain. Some folks have no interest in that and just want to live a normal life. Some band together to share information about their rights, ways of coping with abilities or making a legal buck. So someone with superspeed who does not want to be a hero or villain, but is interested in being a courier, here is where he would turn for help. Superhero Lobby Group: Every other group on the planet has lobbyists in Washington work on their behave, why not superheroes. Mostly to protect the civil liberties of superheroes and prevent things like a superhero registration act or other such nosense.
  7. Re: Gestalt is Online I believe that the reason that both Gestalt and Strike Force are so good is that their are about real campaigns. In both cases, you have the Game Masters writing detail information about campaigns they have spent years working on. It gives the works a sense of being alive somehow.
  8. Re: Canadian Golden Age Comic Books in Alter Ego BTW, I just found out that that TwoMorrow is making that issue of Alter Ego available as a PDF for only $2.95 US. For these interested see here: http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=579&zenid=8d1decbb542f84809b8c3adb3f405272 Also note, my wife is still laugh at the me for spend all that time and money, just to see the book reprinted in Alter Ego.
  9. In the 1971, The Great Canadian Comic Books by Michael Hush & Patrick Loubert was published. It was the first book to examine the Canadian comic books or characters ever. Now its focus was limited to only one publisher, but it was the most important of all World War II Canadian comic book companies, Bell Features. My local library had a copy before it vanished and that is where I first discover it. I have always wanted my own copy; however, it had been long out of print by the time I first read it. Recently, I finally found a copy for sale, that was not outrageously priced and in rather good condition. So $50 US later, I got my copy last week. It was as good as I remembered it. This week, Alter Ego No. 71 was for sale in my local comic book store. Within the pages of that issue of Alter Ego, for $6.95, the complete contents of The Great Canadian Comic Books, was reprinted. Oh well, my copy is an oversized hardcover book and the artwork is so reduced in size. As a side note, Canadian comic books from the World War II era are referred to as Canada Whites. They called this since almost all comics produced in Canada at the time were printed in black and white. While American comics of the same era where produced in color, they are not available in Canada during this period due to Canadian government regulation. The War Exchange Conservation Act, basically non-essential items were not allowed to be import into Canada and comics were deemed non-essential. The fact that American comics were not available to Canadian kids is allowed the creation of a Canadian comic industry. An industry which died when the Americans were allowed back into the Canadian market. Anyway, I thought people might be interested in the new Alter Ego issue, what with the new Champions of the North soon to be available. Personally, in my campaign I have used characters from Bell Features to populate the Golden Age of Canada. Nelvana of the Northern Lights, Johnny Canuck, the Penguin and others were all part of the back story of my campaign. One of these days, I have to find my old notes and update the characters to 5th edition. For these interested in more about Canadian comics, check out the work of John Bell. He is a senior archivist at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa and is a leading authority on the history of English Canadian comic books. He has put two books that are still today, Canuck Comics and Invaders from the North. Plus his is also responsible for the Guardians of the North website, http://www.collectionscanada.ca/superheroes/ and its sister site, Beyond the Funnies, http://www.collectionscanada.ca/comics/.
  10. Re: Quick thoughts on Gestalt Told you I was feeling old.
  11. Re: Quick thoughts on Gestalt I have always find Gestalt to be an interesting concept, ever since I found the original files on the Red October BBS, during the days before the internet. I will really old after typing that.
  12. Re: Gestalt is Online Thank you. I had been think on how to respond. You have nail it.
  13. Re: Gestalt is Online First, it's not really fair to look at DOJ's PDF pricing compared to most of the rest of the industry. Aside from Wizards of the Coast, most of the companies price their PDFs at half the price of the printed edition. DOJ has always believed in charging more for their PDFs. Now as for the price of Gestalt, keep in mind that the printed book will be 400 pages. A lot of other gaming products these days seem to max out at around 256 pages. Green Ronin for example, has their Freedom City setting book on sale for $39.95, and it is only 256 pages. Gestalt is almost twice as big as anything else Blackwyrm has published before. Look at their other HERO System books and realize where the pricing structure is coming from. They are much smaller than DOJ or Green Ronin, also is a factor. The bottom line is the cost of the printed Gestalt is well within the expected price range of such a product. However, if you can't afford it, get the PDF at least.

  16. Re: The Return of the Golden Age
  17. Re: The Return of the Golden Age I believe that the first Captain Wonder you listed is the Canadian Captain Wonder published during Bell Features during World War II. That character was Captain Marvel clone according to the book I have on Canadian Golden Age comic books.

  19. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie update Yes, it was recalled, but a large number were sold. I own a copy as do a lot more people then you would think. As for the moral implications, there are numberous novels that have been published on the same theme. I even believe there was a Fanastic Four issue where they stop a time traveling Nick Fury from killing Hitler.

  23. There have been three major announcements of Golden Age comic book projects with weeks of each other. The next year could be a great time for fans of the Golden Age (it would be even better if the Golden Age of Champions was released). The Next Issue Project From Image Comics comes the Next Issue Project, an anthology featuring reimagined Golden Age comic characters by a number of big names. http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=ofo&article=2809 http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11230 Superpowers This is going to come from the team of Alex Ross and Jim Krueger, who just finished Justice at DC Comics. This new project is going to be published by Dynamite Entertainment. Basically, they are going to update a number of characters that fallen into the public domain, such as the Black Terror and the original Daredevil. http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=121364 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=121397 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=122270 - Check this link for a bucket full of artwork. http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/005218984.cfm http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11188 http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11527 http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125175 The Twelve A 12-issue miniseries by writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Chris Weston coming from Marvel comics. The Twelve of the title are 12 superheroes from the days Marvel Comics was Timely Publications. These 12 Golden Age superheroes were captured before the end of World War II and placed in suspended animation. The comic will cover them being revived in the 21st Century and how they deal with the situation. Basically, the same ground covered by the revival of Captain America in the 1960s. http://www.newsarama.com/Comic-Con_07/Marvel/TheTwelve.html The Witness: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123542 The Black Widow: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123693 The Blue Blade: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123751 Captain Wonder: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=123753 Dynamic Man: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124292 Elektro: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124457 Fiery Mask: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124602 Laughing Mask: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=124744 Mastermind Excello: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125096 Mister E: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125240 Phantom Reporter: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125392 Rockman: http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=125573
