  15. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations You won't miss Raymond Burr. Trust me. You HAVE to see it.
  16. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations The same reason it had a first season: TV producers will put anything on if it has a hot babe in it. The show seemed to me simply a vain attempt to cash in on the Tomb Raider craze that was sweeping the nation at that time. Goes to show you -- now nobody cares about Tomb Raider any more because the movies were so bad.
  17. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations Forbidden Planet is one of the best SF films ever made, in part because it was so pioneering (it showed a sci=fi film can be about something signficant). You can see its influence on people liike Gene Roddenberry (it's hard not to see Commander J.J. Adams as a sort of proto-Kirk given what would come later). And it was one of the frist sci-fi films in which the morality of the characters was more in shades of grey than in black-and-white.
  18. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations YES! Steven Spielberg was a huge admirer of Castle of Cagliostro. If you are interested in pulpy high avdneture, even if you're not an anime fan, you must see it.
  19. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations Tale Spin and Porco Rosso and both great choices. Laputa: Castle in the Sky is another, a spectacular aerial adventure film set in a pseudo-'30s time period. The steampunk genre has many things in common with pulp, so films like Steamboy and series like Sakura Wars would be good.
  20. Re: Character: Conan Edogawa Very good. It would probably require a lot of digging to come up with the infromation on them, but the Kaitou Kid and Ai (aka "Sherry") would be very interesting characters to write up.
  21. Re: Case Closed aka Detective Conan And Lupin continues to seek a repeat perfoemance. I know Fujiko is sort of like Viagra on legs, but still....
  22. Re: Case Closed aka Detective Conan Lupin probably has dozens of kids. He's just never met any of them. he's obsessed with women and has almost certainyl been successful with those of the feminine gender who don't know any better. He's sort of like James T. Kirk that way. The onyl way Lupin would probably even know he had a kid is the the motehr were someone he was around a lot, like Fujiko -- and Fujiko spends a great deal of time leading Lupin on while keep him away from her actual bedside.
  23. Re: This weeks Un-Hero Challenge There was an ongoing "campaign" run at several GenCons before I started attending GenCon which involved the Gang with the Cthulhu Mythos. Apparently it was quite popular until the GMing troupe that did ti couldn't make it one year and it never returned. May people have been asking where the group gets their money. Some unsavory ideas have been suggested, but my theory is that they are supported by a combination of Daphne's trust fund and reward money. Later in their carrers, they might even be considered professional detectives, although they are not for hire in the usual sense (since they are on the road continually, how do you find them even if you did want to hire them?)] An anime crossover for the Scooby-do cast that might be interesting is with Lupin III. Lupin flirting with Daphne would be interesting, especially if Fujiko notices and decides to get even by flirting with Fred. Inspector Zenigate would find the "meddling kids" extermly annoying, especially if they insist the source of the problem isn't Lupin (and naturally, they will turn out to be right). Although "drive all the touists away with a monster scare" is the sort of trick Lupin might actually try -- until he realizies that there are some teenage detectives on his case who are wise to that kind of chichanery....
