  1. Re: OIF for Powered Armor why? Ok, I must admit, I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm posting my experiences anyway. Two campaigns ago, I played an oif power armor. In the about 1 year of playing once a week, we went on two missions to an alternate universe where we went to an alternate universe where the energy signiture of the universe didn't allow the armor to work and it acted as 4/4 bulky armor. On a seperate occasion, we were sent back in time without our focuses, and my character had to use a junky steam powered nazi mech with activation rolls on everything. Then there was the time that the armor got stollen and the character was kidnaped and had cables put directly into his brain to figure out how the armor was made. I'd say the gm got his use out of that. Considering that no disad or lim ever seems to be used to the extent it "should be" according to the rules, OIF seems just fine. In fact, the only lim that I can think of that really has to enforce it's limit all the time is charges, as you either use all your charges and are limited, or don't and the points on the extra charges are "wasted".
  2. Re: Some How To Questions: Highland Games Player I guess thats the way to do it. Just sit down with the GM and figure out what stuff is worth as disads.
  3. Re: Some How To Questions: Highland Games Player I must be going nuts. Isn't there a way to reduce the area of area effect? I only want 3 or 12 total hexes, depending on which way I'm using the power, not the huge number of hexes I get using the areas with this huge multipower.
  4. Re: Some How To Questions: Highland Games Player Well, ae cone gives me a much too big area, and ae any area is much too expensive when I'm only using one possible area shape, just not one offered by the game. Streaching with sweep may work, I'll have to look at that. Also, and other ideas for more tricks in the multipower would help, it is looking bad with only two things in it.
  5. OK, I'm making an athletic brick character who is the ultimate highland games player. His main attack powers will be an oaf multipower based around the caber. I was thinking of making it streching, always direct, only one body part, only to do damage, plus a hand attack and a range based on strenght hand attack, then got to thinking that if I make everything ae, I don't really need the streching at all. I figure the Caber is about three hexes long. What I would like to do is a hand attack that is ae radius, but only in a half circle and three hexes long to represent a swing accross the front of the character. Any idea on how to do this shape? Also, what do you think would work as a lim to represent that if he throws the caber, he has to retreive it before he can use any of the multipower abilities again? Any sugestions would be great. Thank you.
  6. Re: Drinking contest Also look at things like regen and poison immunity. Both would be large factors as well.
  7. Re: So, why is longevity so expensive? Yes, but any GM I've ever had will want a pretty good explanation of why I didn't age for 10,000 years, and suddenly do now. Part of my problem with the price is that I've never been in a game that there is and normal strain form aging, or that aging is an issue unless it is some kind of withering attack.
  8. Re: So, why is longevity so expensive? Yes, it does justify a lot, but so does falling into a vat of experamental chemicals, or having a father who worked in a nuclear facility, or even getting kidnaped by aliens and having your body replaced/rebuilt. Last I checked, all of those are free.
  9. I've never seen a campaign where ageing actually mattered, other than as a hook or as flavor. If the GM wants your character to be around in the far future, he will be there, and if he doesn't want that, no amount of unageing will protect him. The only thing the ageing life support protects you from is the occasional NND or transform attack. For the cost of being immortal, you can breathe underwater. I think breathing under water is of much more use in most campaigns than simply living a long time if nothing kills you. For the cost of living 1600 years, you could instead never sleep, effectivly increasing your character's potential to do good by 1/3. For the cost of living 800 years, you can survive unprotected in the antarctic. In any game I can think of, I don't see how long life actually compares to the other life supports (other than the immunities, they are a whole other set of problems). I think long life and immortality should cost at most a couple of points, for the added advantage of having an excuse to why you knew Moses or George Washington personally, but should mostly just be free flavor, like the rest of your background. What do you guys think?
  10. Re: Transform into living spacecraft Ok then, a physical transform, transforms targets body to targets body that is caried by the ship?
  11. Re: Transform into living spacecraft I don't think the entangle option would work, as when the ship moved, it would leave the entangled people and barriers behind. Maybe Clinging, useable by others, only to attach to base character.
  12. Re: Transform into living spacecraft I don't see how extra limbs makes sence at all, other than it is cheap. What are the limbs?. Short range Tk and shapeshift would make more sence. Of course, Multiform makes the most sence...
  13. Re: Transform into living spacecraft I don't see why you need two seperate character sheets for the vehicle and the AI. Just give the vehicle the extra stats and skills you want it to have that are not usually covered by a vehicle. When you build a normal character, do you make an extra character sheet for the stats and skills? No. You don't need to do that for this one either.
  14. Re: Transform into living spacecraft I'm sorry, but I'd just use a multiform. Much easier, and I don't know any hero players who don't like to write new characters. Heck, if he really doesn't want to, I'll write it for him.
  15. Re: Power Defence... Ugg Thats funny actually, as in the game I'm currently we added Magic Defence and Ki defence. Magic defence can protect from anything magical, so if someone throws a fireball at you, you decide if you want to use your ED or your Magic D. If someone hits you with an advanced KI strike, you can choose Ki defence or Physical. Magic can also protect you from any other type of magical effect, including many power effects. The cop out is that the power can not be used as written without modifires. PD works against everything that does kinetic damage and it isn't hard to imagine how that works. ED protects from all energy types, and that really isn't too hard to figure out either (Insulation works). Mental D covers attacks and effects on the mind. All three are pretty simple, but Power D really doesn't make sence the way the other defences do.
  16. I really don't like power defence. I don't see how the same thing protects you from magicly being transformed into a frog, sleeping drugs, and having your atoms taken apart by nanomachienes and recombined elsewhere. It seems like a shoddy patch. Something was needed to deal with "strange" powers, and they made it up. I also don't see many good excuses for ways to take it, espically take it without lims. A magic protection talismen works against magic, a mask protects from sleeping drugs, and anti-nanites protect from nanomachienes, but most shouldn't protect from other things. How do you do a technological or trained protection from magic? Any thoughts?
  17. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone Well, if he has an inhibitor working on him, he can't change.
  18. Re: Disad cost for being a disembodied brain? Well, think about how much it affects you, and how. Do you have an alternate form of locomotion? Do you have an alternate way to manipulate things? To comunicate? Do you look like a disembodied brain? I'd think of how you are affected and break it down into many smaller disads that way. A distinctive features, a couple physical lims, maybe a hunted for people trying to figure out how you survive without a body, mix and match as needed.
  19. Re: Help designing soul-sucking sword Well, thats the thing about the speed chart, you have to decide at what point you have it bought back to where it might as well be permanent. In most games, once points return in months, they are pretty much gone for good. Also, remember if you "Kill" them from this, its permanent. You might want to talk to your GM about how much ego drain it takes to kill someone, if it is possible. Thats a good reason to make it body drain.
  20. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone Not always, at least once he suffered a major head wound and had to stay in armored form untill he healed, because if he changed back he would die. This was at the same time as his sister was dieing of the legacy virus, and caused much angst because he couldn't hold her in normal form.
  21. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone One level of growth might work. Alternativly, some extra presence could be good.
  22. Re: Help designing soul-sucking sword I'd just make it an HKA linked to an ego drain bought way up the time chart. Make it require body damage to use the drain. YOu might want to make the drain based on ECV as well, but thats your call.
  23. Re: Simple Request: Colossus Clone I'd do him as a few levels of DI (not too many, we don't see his weight cause problems very much) With a nice chunk of str, con, and armor. He often shows life suport: need not breath, eat, ect. He also has a lot more body in metal form, and isn't affected by called shots too much, so add lack of weakness. Link everything to the DI, and make it all only in hero ID, with instantchange. Also, remember that he keeps wounds that he takes while in metal form, and several times he has had to stay in that form because he would die if he changed back. I guess that means that he takes his normal body before his OHID body. Was this mess any help?
  24. Update Re: Worm in your head? In don't know if anyone cares of wants this, but after a little talk with the GM, I got some good news and some bad news. The good news it that the point total I had for the game was wrong, it is actually 300/120 (Yes, high powered) Countering that VPP is banned, so I have to use a shapechange and linking system. Here is the new writeup, any comments are more than welcome. The Worm from Beyond Player: Z.
