    2238.10.01:
A war of Conquest has been declared onto the "Great Kalaxenan Hegemony".

    2238.12.22:
Another incursion happened in Rakaron. The new Twig Class Missile Platform has been designed and will be deployed in order to aid the Rakaron System defense.

    2239.10.10:
Our mainfleet has reached the southern Quenus System. It will engage the local spaceport in hopes of taking away that naval production capacity from the enemy.

    2240.01.11:
The fleet managed to destory the enemy spaceport but had to retreat once the enemy fleet arrived. 12 Corvettes have been lost.

    2240.04.06:
A incursion into Isius happened. However the enemy was forced to retreat after serious casualties and destroying the Leaflet Platform once again.

    2240.05.07:
While keeping tabs on the enemy homsystem, Erica Hawthorn was slaugthered by the retuning enemy fleet.

    2240.09.01:
The fleet has been repaired and will once again push into Qenus.

    2240.10.01:
    Anotehr Election Season is underway.

    2240.11.13:
A complete Invasion Army has been gathered, and is on it's way towards Qenus.

    2241.01.01:
After a close race, Basil Bloom has been re-elected as President. Flora Lite has returned to Governing, taking over Isius Prime.

    2241.02.06:
Between the two wars Ion Thrusters have been completely Reverse-Engineered.

    2241.04.26:
The Qenus System has been secured.

    2241.08.19:
As expected the enemy rushed in to recapture Qenus. This will be a excellent opportunity to destory thier fleet once and for all.

    2241.12.05:
After heavy battle the entire Kalaxenan Government Surrendered.

    2242.03.01:
The Ipa'Go Sector has been formed. Bud Maple has taken over as Governor.

    2243.06.03:
The new Wormhole Calibration Matrix and the new Worhole Stations gives us access to a whole host of new Systems.

    2244.12.21:
We have started passively observing a Iron-Age Civilisation in the Nicor System.

    2245.12.02:
On the northernmost range of our Wormhole drives, we made contact with the Tzinn Empire.

    2245.12.28:
In far south/Galactic Border System of Nunus we found anotehr large, habitable planet (19). While gravity is very low, Food is also rather scarce. A colonyship has been ordered by the President despite that.

    2246.01.14:
There are two possible Tzinn Colonies right at our border. Starmag and Cizar are uninhabitable for us and the other races in this sector, but not for the Deser Dwelling Tzinn.

    2247.09.01:
    Nunus has been colonised.

    2247.09.18:
The fleet has been reinforced. Their goal is to destroy the various "wild" pirate fleets that have been found all near our space. While generally primitive, a bit of their technology might be interesting for us.

    2248.09.01:
    Reports from Nunus:
After a bunch of mysterious earthquakes, seismological scans revealed that there appears to be a sort of subteranian Civilisation. Not only that, but it appears they are digging their way up! There was a decision to be made: Contact them or strike at them Preemptively. We have about 1 year before they reach the surface. Defensive armies are being levied on Nunus, in case we choose the violent option.

    2249.07.18:
We decided ultimative to deal the first blow against the Underground Civilisation on Nunus.

    2249.10.02:
The underground Primitives on Nunus have been dealt with permanently. Their city caverns have been flooded with nervegas and the workers tunneling upward had the tunnel colapsed onto them. Any survivers will unlikely be able to pose a danger.

    2251.01.01:
Another election Season has begun, but only Basil Bloom and Flora Lite have any hopes of winning. However Basil Bloom has a significant lead.

    2251.04.01:
    Basil Bloom has been reconfirmed

    2253.05.02:
To make room for additional Planets, the Rakaron Sector has been formed. It's focus will be science to the exclusion of other pursuits. Huckleberry Hawthorn has been named Governor.
Flora Lite takes over as governor of Nunus Prime.

    2254.10.26:
New Fusion Power Reactors have been created.

    2254.12.18:
The Trax Ofko System contains a Early Space Age civilisation on Carnaloa. Due to their strategic position, ability to become spacefaring on their own soon and thier unfitting Ethos, a Infiltration Mission has been started.

    2255.03.01:
Even further to the Galatic Border and west of even Nunus, Cezuetov is our newest Colony. Flora Lite moved over there to oversee the buildup, as nunus is already reaching it's first hallmark.

    2255.05.02:
We met and made contact with the Artisan Troupe.

    2255.08.01:
Being one of the first surveyed planets, Cirban Prime has finally been Colonised under leadership of the Rakaron Sector.

    2257.02.03:
There has been a Setback during the Infiltration on Carnaloa. Despite this we are in the 2nd Phase of the Project.

    2258.04.03:
A replacement effort has gone awry, and Carnaloa is now on the way towards full blown nuclear war.

    2258.09.19:
On Nunus Prime prospectors finally managed to find the mines where the underground civilisation got their rumored precious metals. Now that material is ours.

    2258.11.16:
Nuclear war on Carnaloa has been averted and the whole thing ended up helping our Infiltration efforts.

    2259.03.16:
We have a Rogue Agent on Carnaloa.

    2261.07.01:
Basil Bloom has been confirmed as our Leader a 3rd time.

    2261.08.02:
Carnaloa has been annexed. Flora Lite has been moved to be Governor of this planet.

    2262.09.05:
We made contact with a Neighbour of the Tzynn. The Dabbax are Fanatic Xenophile Federation Builders.

    2262.09.11:
A NAP and defense pack has been singed with the Dabbax.

    2262.09.23:
A 30 year reserach and Wormhole access pact has been signed with the Dabbax.

  2. This is how the univers looks like for my little empire:
    post-15884-0-10019300-1487873335_thumb.jpg

The conquest of the 2 planet empire is planned. Actually turned out to be Quite similar to my pops (Deviants, Tropical preference)

The 3 planet empire would be next. Thier pops are Industrial and nothing else.

Imrpoovements of the FTL drive are being reserached, but on low priority.

  3. Summary: Made way for the additional colonies using war. Preparations for hte annexation war completed.

21 Corvettes have been gathered under Admiral Rose Garland. Their first target will be the Pirate Base.

    2218.01.27:
The Pirates are no more. Our Fleet has culled that weed, right at the root.

    2220.04.01:
A new Election Season is underway. President Hawthorn is Advertising to Elect the popular Basil Bloom as new President to bring us through the comming war.

    2220.11.01:
The enemy has not yet dared to make a incursion into our space, so we will strike first. Work on a new Colonyship has begun and the Borderpost blocking Feggor and Busim is the target.

    2221.02.08:
The borderpost is gone. No signs of a enemy attack thus far.

    2221.04.28:
The FTL trap drew the enemy Fleet into combat over Rakaron. However they managed to escape just as our fleet arrived. Only casualty is the FTL Inhibitor Platform.

    2222.12.22:

    2230.07.01:
Another Election Season has begun. Newcomemr Flora Lite has been campaining, blaming the President for the loss of most of our Fleet agaisnt the Pirates and with a Promise to "rebuild our Fleet to it's former Glory".

    Ash Garland, Food, Architect, Off-World Miner;

    2200.01.01:
The first order of our President is to look for places to take root in. The Wormhole Drive allows us access to a few Systems that will require intensive Survey efforts.
Our Astronomers mostly agree that we are in the South/East Quadrant of the Galaxy.

    2200.03.01:
With the Titalus and the Boramavus we now have 2 Science Ships.

    2200.04.30:
We found signs of a Precursor Civilsiation dubbed "the firs League" in our very Homesystem of Malchior.

    2200.12.14:
We found 3 Habitable Systems in teh East:
    Isius (17), Cirban (14) and Rakaroon (19).
However we also intercepted Communications that indicate there might be a alien empire to our east, laying claim to Isius.

    2202.02.09:
Aside from Interstellar Pirates to our east, nothing of evident Interest has been found in the reachable Stars.

    2204.05.26:
The first extra-home Wormhole Station has been build in Cirban, expanding our range farther west.

    2204.09.02:
The Empire to our East contacted us. The Kalaxenan are extremely Xenophobe and Collectivist.

    2204.09.10:
As expected they closed their borders towards us.

    2205.03.27:
A Wormhole Station in Cizar gives us access to more northern Systems.

    2205.07.01:
Work on our First Colonyship has begun. The target is still unclear. A frontier outpost in Brachium might allow us to prevent the Kalaxenan from taking root in their nearby Systems.

    2206.07.01:
The Colonyship Hemivalus has left port. It#s goal will be the Rakaroon Systems Habitable Planet.

    2207.08.01:
Two slightly uncomfortable Continental Climate Planets have been found to the North, in Feggor (16) and Busim (16).

    2207.10.17:
Scientist Erica Hawthorn developed a taste for Archeology.

    2207.12.01:
Rakaroon Prime has been fully established.

    2208.08.07:
The Brachium Border Post is up and running, giving us Claim that system and Isius.

    2209.12.02:
The Colonyship for the Issues System has begun construction.

    2210.01.03:
A Election Season has begun. All Signs point towards Huckleberry Hawthorn.

    2210.04.01:
As expected, Huckleberry Hawthorn has been Elected President.

    2210.12.02:
Just as the Colonyship Lavus has finished Production, an Asterid was Sighted on Colision Course with our Colony in Rakaroon. The fleet under Admiral Rose Garland has been ordered to Intercept it.

    2211.03.11:
The Space Piracy Group "Vengefull Legion" has formed. The whereabouts of their Hideout are not yet known.

    2211.08.03:
The Pirates destoryed our Border Outpost in Brachium. Luckily the Colony in Isius is already partially established. However it now is possible for the Kalaxenan to take the System. Luckily they are distracted by having to build up their Colony on Qenus.

    2212.01.29:
The enemy has blocked our acess to Busim and Feggor with a border post. The Colonyship has been canceled to allow for more Spaceships.

    2212.04.01:
Isius Prime has been established. Work on the Local Spaceport has begun immediately.

    2212.10.02:
A Empire on the other side of the Kalaxenan contacted us. The Kundan are Evangelist Zealots, with extreme Amounts of Xenophobia.

    2215.06.01:
Using resources from our Colonies, a massive Ship Buildup has begun.

  5. The next Update is looking better each and every week. Still it will be at least 3 weeks until it will we get even a release date. Time for another play on the unexpected:

The Mahogany, Fanatic Individualist/Xenophobe Plantoids. One of the odder "Hegemonic Imperialist" AI types.

Description: "The Mahogany are a species of 300 feet tall, firebreathing treeoids. As a result of thier long lifespan and slow learning, thier soceity is incredibly factured. While most people wonder how they manage to function as a soceity despite of it, they believe they are special because of it. No goverment form other then Democracy seems viable for them. While they are open to negotiate with other Democracies, they do consider thier way of life inherently superior - because they managed to make it work."

Mahogany Traits: Venerable (extra long Lifespan), Deviants (Extra Ethics Divergence), Slow Learners (Slower leader XP gain).

Playstyle: Using Fanatic Individualist to cut down on Policy related unhappiness. Using Happiness boosts from realy long lived Governors and Xenophobe Building to keep sectors under control.
Game Setup: 600 Systems, 2 FE, 13 AI (no Advanced Start), Wormhole only game

  6. giving up. no escape from

The problem is that you are missing a closing quote way up. Wich the Forum Editor tries to compensate for by adding more at the end.

One of hte rules of programming: If you got that many syntax errors, it is usually the one single error way before that tripping it up horribly. You might have to go to Soucecode mode to fix it.

  7. Sure.  I think that we're running into different definitions of identity, and in the comic they may be running into different definitions of revival.  For revival, they've had head-in-magic-cryokit (effectively everyone, perhaps except for Karl Tagon), restoration from backup (Murtaugh, Ebby, Kaff Tagon), and a bit of both (Schlock), other weirdness (AI gestalts, the UNS assassin that used to move from body to body).  And in the comic they've had to come up with multiple definitions of death: brain intact, brain not intact with instant backup, brain not intact with previous backup.

I think the Assasin was actually the clearest cut case for seperate Identity. I mean it literally was one of them betraying the other. Without Female!Kowalski, Kowalski Prime would never have been aprehended. And the difference was just about a Ego-Trimming (before the Upload) and a few hours of experiences.

  8. I think almost all of the Toughs, Tagon included, have died more than once.  All of the previous times they've been restored from the tip, so to speak; in this case, he was restored from a previous milestone.

That was using the old revival tech, wich required the head/default memory storage to stay mostly intact. It required quickly putting the head into a cryokit. Then regrowing the body.

With the 2 following comics, I see only a few people that can relate:

Schlock: he was the first to do that. But then again he is likely not the right person for existential questions.

Enesby: He was restored with scrambelled speech.

The Ein-Afa might have experience with that. They used the tech originally, after all. There should be somebody in there wich has gone through the same thing as Tagon.

  9. Regarding "replacing the body cell by cell with machinery" example:
Apparently that is a rather well known Paradox. The "Ship of Theseus".

In that example a ship was getting it's wooden planks replaced as they were getting old. And the question was: After you did it to the whole ship, is it still the same ship? What if you gathered all the planks after removing them and build a second ship from that? Would it be the same ship?

It is somewhat promently used in Fiction:

  10. Well in Full Metal alchemist, the main ingredient was Souls. Hundreds to thousands of souls.

All materials don't necessarily need to be rare; perhaps some require a difficult refining process.

Hard to manufacture or refine? Here is a bunch of rather expensive stuff:
    http://www.businessinsider.de/most-valuable-substances-by-weight-2014-9?r=US&IR=T#/#19-white-truffles-1

If it plays in the past, one of my favorite "rare materials" is alluminium. Wich is incredibly common, but whose production cost scales with the price of electicity.

And something that will be hard to obtain/maintain even today: Pure Aluminium.

You see it is actually extremely willing to oxidize. But the thing is that Aluminium-oxide effectively becomes a "armor" around the rest of the aluminium.

  11. Recently I am hoping for a superpower that is decidedly dark. Too many people in Europe recently deny the Holocaust. Or that Vaccination is nessesary. Or that slavery was bad. Or that feminism is a nessesary thing (as long as not taken to extremes).

I want to transform them so they would fit precetly as victim of that time (jew, black, people suffering from a pandemic, women). And then send them back to the time they believe was full of "gumdrops and icecream". The power would pull them back just before they are about to die/get raped/similar horrible stuff.

As I see it, two powers. Possibly linked:

"You fit right in..." would be a Transform. It would change the looks, clothing and ability to speak to fit right in as a victim of that time.

"...now go there" would send them back to that time to experience how wrong they were firsthand.

Many here would go for Movement, UAA (especially EDM, UAA) but I am not a friend of that. I feel like a Transform could do that as well (the reasoning is that time/space/dimension coordinates are about as important as not being a frog or a stone statue).

Well thank you Phoenix240 and what can you tell me about this purple guy ?

There was once a Viper nest especially interested in the mystical. However between all thier technology and magic, it lacked one important ability:

The ability to counter ghosts and similar intangible creatures.

However they learned of one mystical tool for it. The "Widderrollen". A german pagan artifact. Using it, one could turn humans into "Widdermenschen" (Ram-humans). Purple, ram-headed humanoids with incredible strenght, endurance and the ability to hurt even intangble beings with thier bare hands. However the history regarding them also mentioned that the original creators have lost control over thier creations. So they planned on enslaving the creations.

They hired an external expert to help retrieve the scrolls - Talisman. They did succeed in capturing the scrolls. But Talisman was clear about not being willing to help them further, the moment she realised what they had just aquired. For she did speak german.

The Widder or ram is a sing of strenght, endurance. Indeed the germanwort "wider" was derived from it. Wich featured in such words as "Widerstand"(Resistance), "Widerwillen" (unwilling) and of course "Widerholung" (repetition).

And so it came as Talisman had predicted: Thier great first "prototype" broke free. And went on a spree to dismantle the nest, in a atempt to turn human again.

He defeated the necromancers and thier "wall of bone and flesh".

He stromed the fortress of the technologists and took thier weapons to defeat thier dragon.

He even defeated the Graveyard Giant and did got his wish - partially.

The Widdermann is a purple skinned human. While he did reclaim his human head, the skin color change is permanent. And by now he sees it as a sign of his defiance - proud of it, rather then ashamed.

He also did retain the endurance, strenght and ability to "punch" intangible creatures.

    Note:

This story is largely based on the old Console game: Shadow of the Beast. Where you play the titular character, a goat-headed human.

The entirety of his adventures can be seen here:

It involved some very odd quest items including a magical "shockwave" punch, healing potions, a wrench, a bazooka and a jetpack.

Well thank you Phoenix240 and what can you tell me about this purple guy ?

A brick version of the puple man is the only thing I can think off.

He was given his powers by being doused with Nervegas during a spy mission. Could have easily been a different gas.

The Bronze Behemoth is often mistaken for a Power Armor or a Robot, but in truth it is way to bulky on the inside to house a human. But only a human.

The Behemoth is the Robot suit of a alien called "Brinz Bih'moth". His species is both unusually small and very in love with thier (and earths) steam age. So when they reached thier "sufficiently advanced technology" phase, they opted for a steampunk/clockwork theme on all thier tech.

Brinz is just a really ardent fan of earths Steam age so he went on a trip to visit a planet he considered "the center of steampunk". Needless to say he was a bit steamed about finding out that steampunk is not nearly as common as some broadcasts would have you believe. Also Brinz's ship got blown up when some supervillain tried to capture it. And now he is stuck here.

He opted to join the heroes in hopes of finding some way home. And also get even on the Villain that blew up his ship. It looked like a Steam Locomotive and everything! The absolute dream of the spacefaring steampunker.

  15. Some times the info is misleading. Like the time she saw a party member tied up in a dark room and the flash of a large knife.  They did rescue the PC, but since the badguy was knocked out by a punch, the knife turned out to be the Clairvoyant cutting him loose.  Keep it vague and loose and you  won't be railroading anyone.

With the uncertainty principle, you have even more Freedom:

If the PC was going to get knifed (bad rolls or player decisions), the Prediction was not precise enough. It did not show how to prevent that outcome.

If the PC was not going to get knifed (the players prevented it like in your case), the Prediction was precise enough. And as a result, the reality was no longer precise.

If you apply the uncertainty principle as campaign rule, it is impossible for player actions to truly break the narrative:

Predicted event did happen? The prediction was not precise enough to prevent it from happening, apparently.

Predicted event did not happen exactly the way it was predicted (like in your case who held the knife)? The prediction was precise enough to prevent it from happening, and as result the reality did no longer follow the prediction precisely.

Predicted event did not happen at all? (An ally freeing her using his powers rather then a knife?) Again, prediction was so precise reality got derailed.

It is a Win/Win/Win result for you as GM.
