  1. Re: "Neat" Pictures

The 1960s Batmoble was supposedly barely driveable. This version is very cramped and theoretically has controls that are difficult for untrained users to master. I wonder how the stunt drivers managed it (although obviously the controls on the actual' date=' driveable Batmobile had to be much easier) and how fast it was really able to go.[/quote']

    Oh, about 100mph...

  2. Re: Hero System Bestiary: How to build an armadillo?

Maybe give it a maneuver of Martial Block' date=' to simulate them rolling into an armadillo ball (yes, I know that most armadillo species can't do this, because they have too many/too bulky plates, but it's iconic of the animal, so screw "realism").[/quote']

Only the Three-Banded Armadillo does this, but even ignoring that for the sake of drama I wouldn't bother ginving the little guy martial arts (technically a minimum purchas of 10 points afterall). Could just do with skill levles or

[qute]Also, they are good diggers, so Tunnelling would be appropriate.

Three-Banded Armadillos do not burrow, for the record.

Density (with -1 no STR increase) might also be appropriate, since they have increased mass, due to their plates, and will sink in water unless they inflate their lungs to intentionally float.

I don't think I'd bother with limited density increase. If you want to show they are heavier than other animals their size, buy a complicatin. It's not liek they actually change their mass at all.

Despite their short legs, they are pretty fast on their feet, so they should probably have their running increased to 5m or 6m, and their swimming increased to 3m. That's all I can think of, right now.

Well, if we are talking about Nine-banded armadillos, they also jump pretty well and are a potential vector for diseases...

I'm guessing it would be as tough as elephant hide' date=' so 2 PD/ED resistant seems okay.[/quote']

They're certainly not bulletproof, but I've read that a three-banded armadillo can survive a cougar or jaguar attack relativly unscathed once it rolls up.

I believe a portion of this protection is that they are more than a mouthfull, so there's just no way for most of their predators to really bite them. So it would probably be limted rPD that only works on limited attacks and even then it would probably fail against a large enough predator.

Don't have my books in front of me to determin how much rPD that would require, but Damage Negation that only works against natural weapons of man sized or smaller predators might work here.

I sadly have no video evidece of any of this...

Maybe the resistant defenses have an activation roll?

One way to do it. Another could be to make two slots in an MP.

Open version is a little Resistant defense with an activation roll to indicate the relative vulnerability of the limbs, face and underbelly.

Closed version is higher defenses or damage negation that lacks any sort of activation roll, but carries some annoying side effects (can't move, percpetion roll penalties, possibly suffer extra inches of knockback to represent being rolled around by attacks)

Not sure if simulating that is worth the effort though...

  3. Re: How would you Build Spidey's Web Shooters?

Could just buy it all Zero End and put Activation Roll 15- with either Burnout or Jammed on it to represent that he occassionaly runs out of web fluid.

Clear the jam/burnout by returning to the workshop to resupply or fix it.

Less book keeping, but there wil be those days when it jams on the first roll...

  4. Re: Quickly figuring out movement rates

Uhh.... A meter is a real world measurement.

Obviously, but so is a shaku or a stone and yet if I ask the average American how many shaku tall they are or how many stone they weigh they will stare at me blankly :)

If you are used to MPH, you have a solid frame of reference when speeds are put in those terms.

  5. Re: The Sincerest Form Of Flatery...

Well I can't really claim Zeus and the Olympians...

Your writups are an interpretation of myths that are thousands of years old. I'd say there's a fair degree of ownership there, much as I think Marvel has a fair degree of ownership for their interpretation of Thor.

Though somewhere out there is probably a Master Villian level lawer just biding his time for an epic lawsuit involving Ancient Greek Copyright infrigment...

  6. Re: The Sincerest Form Of Flatery...

I've had people tell me they were using Gorilla Grond in their games, which pleased me immensly :) Kind of curious what they did with 'em actually...

Also, I think Hermit siad he was going to use Hellen the Temptress in one of his games (she's a succubus that was once Helen of Troy and she would really rather not talk about it)

I've had quite a few people ask to use my Ben 10 writups for various purposes, but it's not like they are actually my characters or anything, so that probably doesn't count ;)

  7. Re: Ben 10: Omniverse

According to a Ben 10 Wiki I've found' date=' at least some of the original Omnitrix aliens will have different voice actors. David Kaye is listed as the VA for Omniverse Heatblast, replacing Steven Blum (original series) or Dee Baker (Ultimate Alien), f'rex.[/quote']

Yeah, Derrick Wyatt confirmed that a little while back, but I admit I was holding out hope that Steve Blum would still reprise his role as the voice of Heatblast during Flashback.

You know, since they brought back Terra Strong to voice 11 year old Ben I thought there might be a chance.

Not a big deal and I'm glad Dee's getting a little reprieve. I know he hated having to murder his voice doing Humongousaur, for example, so I'm sure he's glad to step aside and let John take that booming voices.

  8. Re: Ben 10: Omniverse

Getting some info trickeling in from SDCC and other sources

    - Flashback Ben is 11, not 10

    - the alien I thought was named Chicken Hawk is actually named Kickin Hawk

    - there's a video online where you can make out Crashhopper and Kickin Hawk... the chicken-like alien villain with the elbow spikes that we've seen in previews seems to be of the same race.

    - 16 year old Ben's aliens are supposed to have a white ring around their Omnitrix base, while Flashbacks have a gray ring. Lighting/shadows make this pretty hard to use as an indicator though. It's really only obvious when the alien in question already has white or gray in thier design.

    - We've returned to having Ben's aliens voiced by several different actors, as opposed to the AF/UA style of having almost all of them be voiced by Dee Bradley Baker (except Alien X, Rath, Ghostfreak and Upgrade). I haven't seen it confirmed if we'll be getting the origional voice actors for Flashback aliens...

    - Ben will not be going Ultimate, but we will see the Ultimates Aliens return in some capcity. Not sure if that's a reference to the six that were freed in Ultimate Sacrifice, if somone else will get their hands on the Ultimatrix (which was allegeldy destroyed by Azmuth of screen between series) or something else...

  9. Re: White Knight Defense in 6E?

    Yes

At the GM’s discretion, a character can create an Absorption or Aid power which specifies that some or all of the Character Points received go to improve the effectiveness of the Adjustment Power itself. However, the GM should review such powers carefully, and forbid them or require the player to revise them if they prove to be too unbalancing or too disruptive of game play.
  10. Re: The Good and Bad about Marvel and DC

    I liked Avengers-Next :(

    I liked it too :)

James Rogers, son of the Black Widow and Captain America from Ultimate Avengers cartoon universe is just an awesome character concept. As was Storm and Black Panthers kid, Azari. Torunn was pretty cool too, though I really want to know who her mother was suposed to be...

    And it's actually Next Avengers.

Avengers Next was the team in the MC2 line, which is also awesome :)

I'll think about my good/bad list...

  11. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities

My main issue with the article was that there were two issues:

    1) The clerc assumed the woman was a comics rube because she was a woman (sexist)

    2) The clerc did not want to deal with a comics rube (elitist)

Well, she does point out that the clerk did assist a male patron that was asking for recomndations just like her.

Of course, wether that guy was also a relative comics n00b like her is unknown, but the way I read her article I belive that she was operating under the assumption that he was.

  12. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings

It seems that it only counts when a Virginal Woman has sex with a man. Somehow sexual relations with another woman are somehow not counted. Probably comes from breaking the Hymen when a woman first has sex with a male.

Yeah, as a society we probably should redefine virginity to something a bit more sensible... though I admit my own experiences make it really hard to argue about.

I mean, it's not like I think of any of my lesbian friends as virgins (I'm sure you've encountered that attitude though, sadly)

But I assure you my high school girlfriend and I both would have both been considered virgins all the way up to the moment of penetration.

Infact we thought of ourselves and each other as virgins until that one single act.

Which is a pretty rediculous statement considering the stuff we actually had done with each other up until that point ;)

  13. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings

What thoughts and feelings are elicited by the idea of a superpowered MALE whose powers derive from chastity' date=' or who would become weak and vulnerable if he were to experience sexual contact with a female?[/quote']

I've actually seen this concept played out before. We had a male paladin fall from grace due to it. It was a fairly well roleplayed scenario that occured over many sessions.

Other times that I've seen it with monks or clerics, it was mostly background fluff that came up in the occassional conversation but was otherwise easily forgotten.

    Is such a concept misandrist?

Based on our society, I'm going to go with a pretty firm no. Somone might be able to cite some sources or make a compelling argument that convinces me otherwise, but I kinda doubt it.

If anything, the sexist double standard induced knee jerk reaction is probably going to be that some dude that deliberatly chooses to give up sex is either a closeted homosexual, bat-s#!+ crazy and/or not a REAL MAN.

While I am asking, how about a male character who refuses romantic involvement because he is waiting for a woman to prove herself worthy, say by defeating him in combat or meeting a specific challenge?

I've seen stories where a woman had to do something grand to earn the affections of a man, but I can't recall the challenge ever being defeating him in combat.

Culturally and biologically, women are seen as the softer, weaker sex. So the idea that a man would only get involved with a woman that can best him in a fight would seem preposterous to most.

I think something like this is only likely to appear in a setting where women are the roles are reversed, with women as the dominant sex and men as the pursued.

Or, at the very least, where the genders are some how on completly equal footing physically.

Or in a satirical context, of course...

Our cultural baggage also includes the paradigm that refraining from sexual contact brings a person - especially a man, as until recently it was only men who could be priests in Christianity - closer to God.

I don't think this is that big a part of our overall culture, but I may have a skewed view of things.

My biological family is a mix of Catholics and Jews, but I wasn't raised religious at all.

Frankly, I thought people only practiced abstinence when they didn't want kids.

The concept of a Vow of Celibacy was pretty mind boggeling when I first encountered it...

Is it the male gender that is painted as dangerous and polluting, or sexual contact, regardless of with whom?

    No, clearly not.

Many a virtuous man has been corrupted by a vile temptress in stories... and real life.

However, the physical mechanics of the male sexual act seem to be a lot easier to paint in a darker light for reasons that seem pretty obvious to me...

  14. Re: Alternate Sexualities in Champions and Supers settings

Most Chastity Vows I've heard include not taking a wife/husband specially if the marriage isn't considered valid until consummated.

Depending on deffinitioon, someone can be chaste while still having marital sex.

Somone that is celibate cannot have sex or (typically) get married.

    Varies by culture...
