Balatrones are professional jesters or fools who are hired by the wealthy to entertain. They must be familiar with the local nobility and maneuver easily within society knowing who to mock and when.

3. Re: A bit of advice for fellow newcomers...

What I am thinking of is more than a package deal; more like the arch-types presented in Mutants & Masterminds. Most package deals are what...10%-25% of the character points? That leaves a lot of room for someone swimming in options.

Someone in the 'training wheels' stage needs more than a genre book in my opinion.

4. Re: Limiting Combat Levels

They have a ton of skills and are really looking to work the system over.

You and I may have disagreed on this before. I happen to be a big fan of Overall Skill Levels. I like to play jack-of-all trades characters and Overall Skill Levels make that a viable option. I just do not understand why people are so against them. 10 points is pretty cost restrictive in and of itself.

Now, from a purely min/max point of view, 6 skills and 6 Overall Skill Levels is just a waste. To me, you really need more skills to justify the points.

5. Re: GURPS and Hero: Characters

However' date=' GURPS has a much better link between disadvantages / mechanics than HERO and it is much easier to develop and assign penalties (such as -1 to Will rolls versus hypnotism spells) and -1 to fighting in deserts than HERO.[/quote']

I do not understand what you mean. Would you please elaborate.

6. Re: test.

I made someone’s ignore list! I am really moving up in the world.

Was it due to my religious views, political views or mindless ramblings?

7. Re: Martial Art: The Pathfinders Way

One of the benefits of Markdoc’s approach is that you can give Martial Artist more options beyond Block, Dodge, Strike and Throw. I also love using Advantages on attacks like Area of Effect and Autofire.

One thing I do not see, Markdoc; how much does 'opponent falls' cost?

8. Re: Never Built a follower before need assitance

O.k. So it is cheaper to build a follower.

Cost	Power
3	Crow: Elemental Control, 10-point powers,
(5 Active Points); all slots Restrainable (-1/2)

5	Attack!: Killing Attack - Ranged 1 point, Trigger
(Activating the Trigger is an Action that takes no
time, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after
it activates, Three or more activation conditions
apply simultaneously; +1 1/2) (12 Active Points)

3	Bring Me the Keys: Telekinesis (3 STR),
Uncontrolled (+1/2) (7 Active Points)

3	Find a Water Source: +5 with Survival
(10 Active Points)

3	Follow Him: +5 with Tracking (10 Active Points)

4	Scout Ahead: Clairsentience (Sight Group)
(20 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Minute, -1 1/2),
Only Through The Senses Of Others (-1/2)

Powers Cost: 21

9. Re: How would you model this Sadhana power?

Does the ‘invading’ spirit gain access to the memories of the ‘defending’ body? I would probably go with a Variable Power Pool to simulate the ‘defending’ body’s abilities with some kind of limitation for your spiritless body. I suppose you could do this with a bunch of Multiforms as well.

10. Re: Whip

That sounds more like an Active Point or rPD limit. I fear he may end up just as frustrated because he targeted the wrong thing. Someone may take Full Plate right out of Fantasy Hero and tack on a level of Combat Luck right out of Fantasy Hero and ruin your GM’s day.

Proper application of ‘official material’ is just as prone to muchkinizing as home builds. This is just one of my soapbox issues. People get into arms races with muchkins or trying to house rule them into submission. Instead of addressing the underlying issue, they liberally apply band aids until one or both parties becomes frustrated and the game is no longer fun for anyone.

11. Re: Never Built a follower before need assitance

Thaeldes, you have the 4th edition Bestiary. There are some birds in that and the builds should be nearly identical for 5th edition. I will bring the 5th edition Bestiary Saturday.

You need to be more specific about what the player wants from this crow. Remember to reason from effect. You may not want to build it as a follower.

A follower that can show him the way from the sky: Clairsentience, Restrainable

Some strength: Telekinesis, Uncontrolled, Restrainable

Bigger than a normal crow: Special Effects for no points

All of this could be rolled up into a Multipower and would probably cost a lot less than a follower.
