  1. Re: Confused about 6th edition

Women who are nursing' date=' pregnant or may become pregnant will have absolutely no problems using or handling 6th Edition.[/quote']

…but probably not Character Creation and Combat & Adventuring at the same time. Unless of course she also purchased Two Weapon Fighting.

  2. Re: Pirates of not Freeport or the Caribbean

I've been eyeballing this. I've got the tavern/bar on the docks and the dockside maps already.

I had enlarged the sloop from G.U.R.P.S. Swashbucklers 3rd edition and had printed it out so that each hex = 1 inch (I hope I am not admiting to violating copywrite laws). It was rough, but serviceable. After laying my hands on the flip mat, I just let the PCs capture a two master and used it.

I am not sure what kind of pirate campaign you are going to run. For me, at least 50% of the battles involved the ship, so it was indispensible.

  3. Re: Fooling Telepathy

I can only speak from my own experience, but most people I have played with would have just given up by now and said forget it. Which is fine if you do not want to allow that kind of thing in your campaign.

Personally, I do not think it would be useful enough to justify many of the cost structures tossed about in this thread.

  4. Re: New Metarule

I have allowed a player to use a related skill at penalty to do something they do not have the proper skill for. For example using one PRE skill to substitute for a different PRE skill. If you have no related skills, then a CHAR roll at penalty ( just like in the Ultimate Skill ).

To me, this encourages players to buy Skills as they become even more useful. Anyone familiar with G.U.R.P.S. will notice the plagiarism (defaults).

In a heroic game, I feel the heroes should always have a chance to get lucky. It happens frequently in many genres.

  5. Re: Dimension Lords

This might cut down a bit on the “unlimited/limited dimensional existence” problem.

I was thinking they were permanent. I do not really have a problem with nearly unlimited number of dimensions. I am not going to map them all out.

As the PCs become more powerful, they may become 'protectors' of certain dimensions: becoming landed nobles. These would probably be the dimensions I like to take them back to time and again.

  6. Session II - Kazicorp

The Duke of Generosity sends the PCs to dimension 3134741 (a cyberpunk world) to prevent the megacorporation Kazicorp from distributing a highly addictive drug to Kazicorp employees. While there, the PCs see the recently slain Baron of Rancour.

The PCs' last mission was to kill the Baron. The PCs may not figure this out, but the Baron in dimension 3134741 is a clone. The Baron will know that he opposes the PCs, but will not know that the PCs recently killed him in another dimension.

One of the PCs is somewhat like an android and made a point about following directions in the last game. I hope to challenge that player by suggesting (most likely the Baron himself pointing it out) that killing the Baron is not their current objective. I am curious to see how singleminded the player wants to play his character.

Furthermore, I should like to dig a little into the character's motivations. I have been given very little back story from the characters, so I hope to have the Baron question their loyalty to the Duke of Generosity. One of the characters has some villain in his background, so that should be easy enough to use. I may tempt the android with a chance to feel what it is like to be 'human'.

And of course the primary objective is to prevent the distribution of the drug. The drug is not in manufacturing yet. Kazicorp only has the formula which they have imprinted pieces of (ala Johnny Mneumonic) into four different people's heads. All four employees have 24 hour body guards and should anything happen to one of them, the other three will be locked down.

  7. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power?

Sometimes' date=' learning your limitations as a GM is a painful experience. I've been there myself, which is why I usually don't try to GM, despite my intermittent worldbuilding.[/quote']

And then people wonder why there are not more GMs.

Make an abusive character, loose a GM. Is it really worth it?

This is not directed at you, Peregrine. More at those who brag about how they made the GM squirm.

  8. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #2: New Combat Maneuvers; Objects As Weapons

I have not liked the idea of having to buy multiple books from the beginning, but I understand Hero wants to make money. So I grumble at moving some maneuvers to the Advanced Player's Guide.

Combining Rapid Fire and Sweep seems an obvious move to me. Interestingly, Multiple-Power Attack never came up in my games. I realize it is very common in genre. I do not know why we never used it. I am curious to see how they will be done in 6th. Right now, I can not really wrap my head around combining them with Rapid Fire and Sweep. They just seem very different things to me even though they are both doing multiple things at once.

  9. Re: Fooling Telepathy

    To other telepaths' date=' yes.[/quote']

    Page reference please.

    As I understand it…

"Powers that inherently cost no END do not automatically have perceivable special effects."

Mental Defense does not cost END. I see nothing under Defensive Powers to suggest it should be perceivable either.

I suppose you could argue that IPE is required to hide the effects of the use of the power. Could/would you do the same with Armor?
