  1. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Ranger's Tale Good story Darren. Did the Ranger see Zirann himself? I notice you didn't mention his description and the Solar Wand artifact.
  2. Re: Weapon poisons: show me what you use Thanks for your ideas. One of the possible problems I've seen with poisons using "gradual effect " drains is creatures with regeneration. Something that regenerates/heals damage fairly quickly would seem to be affected less from gradual effect poisons. If the gradual effect occured over a long period (like an hour) a regenerating creature would probably never notice. Thoughts?
  3. Re: Weapon poisons: show me what you use Cool! Thanks for the links. Anyone else have a sample of a weapon poison?
  4. I'm curious to see what other people use when creating weapon poisons in Fantasy Hero. What type of effects, how much damage, etc. How do you deal with "delayed effect" during combat phases. (For instance, if a poison does "x"-dice of damage over a five minute period, how do you distribute the damage?) Thanks for any insights or ideas. Mordean
  5. Re: Crosspost: David Gemmel Passes Sad. He was a great writer, and I only started reading his novels in the past few years. I've recommended his novels to several of my friends.
  6. Re: [sigil Campaign] Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics Excellent! I see future plots for your character based on this history.
  7. Re: [sigil Campaign] Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics Alright! Another Journal.
  8. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Ranger's Tale Wow! Undertaker appears. Wait until you guys see Typhus' new abilities... He was talking about some yucky descriptions.
  9. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus I figure that Shemeska has about ten "irons in the fire" at any given time. It would take a very special job to get her full attention. Niren's or Ebon's journal would be very interesting. They are both professional assassins, although Ebon also spends time as a hunter for rare/dangerous creatures throughout the planes. You wouldn't see much pity or compassion in their journals, especially Ebon. She pretty much defines a "cold, hard bitch." Shemeska uses them as her most trusted lieutenants whenever a job has to be done "right." Hopefully the party avoids angering Shemeska to the point where she decides they need to be eliminated. Niren was the one who killed the previous owner (Viggo) of the Blackbird Tavern back when it was the Raven's Roost. (i.e.--Lex's character)
  10. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus I imagine it would be something like this...
  11. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Ranger's Tale I have multiple notebooks (at least three or four completely full) filled with hand-written pages of plots, characters, NPCs, and locations from the various incarnations of the SIGIL game. The materials from previous games serve as background material for the current players. The core group of my players have been together now for around 10 years, and have helped develop a lot of the history in my games through the actions of their characters. Portions of Sigil have developed a familiar feel to them. They know where things are located, and remember details of locations from previous games. I finally gave up trying to carry it all in a backpack and just got a big box to pile it in for now. (Of course I still carry the backpack full of rulebooks, and three miniature cases in addition to the box. ) I think I need a big rolling suitcase or toolbox.
  12. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Ranger's Tale ... and all done in Hero!
  13. Re: FH without Stun I'd suggest using the one-hit, or two-hit-to-kill (or otherwise remove from combat) method for dealing with lesser minions. I generally have a separate combat sheet listing the minor bad guys (the lesser orcs/goblins or whatever) separately from any of the individual monsters/enemies. When PCs hit a lesser minion I put either a single slash "/" or an "X" through the creature hit. If it's a solid hit and does a lot of body, that generally finishes that guy and results in an "X." If the PC only does 2 body to the minion's leg or something, he only gets a "/." That means it will take one more hit to put him out of combat. (i.e.--goblin #1 gets hit hard in the chest with an axe resulting in an "X" which puts him out of the fight.) This makes it easy to keep track of the lesser enemies in combat and keeps the GM from constantly figuring stun and body versus armor and hit locations, etc.
  14. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus We introduced two new characters to the party last night. They are replacements for Ogdru (now an NPC) and Cadak (player's choice to change characters.) I'll let the guys tell the story from their perspectives.

  17. Re: Advice on Layout? It looks good. I think it's better with the serif font. To fix the leading under the bullet points you'll have to turn off auto leading and put in a manual number for your paragraph styles. (i.e.-- intstead of 10 pt./auto, use 10 pt./11 or something.) Auto leading will sometimes space decorative fonts different than standard fonts. Are you using InDesign from CS2?
  18. Re: Advice on Layout? The layout looks good. I do have one suggestion. Use a serif font (Times, Palatino, or similar) for the main body text. Serif fonts were designed to make the eyes of the reader flow from one letter to the next. If you look at magazines, newspapers, and books you'll find that 99% of them use a serif font for the body text. The sans-serif font you are using would work good for small quotes, photo captions, etc. It's just not as readable in large blocks of text. My qualifications? I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I've been a graphic designer for 14 years in commercial publishing and printing. How big is the entire project? It looks like you have a great start?
  19. Re: Irksome players Curufea hit the nail on the head! When I run a game I want the characters to participate in the story. The best plot can be made better by interesting characters. I don't care if you want to play an idiot — the typical drooling, sloped-forehead killer. Just give him some personality so he's more than just a big guy who spent too many points on combat skills. Make your "normal" appearing character something different. Give him a dark secret, a higher goal, etc. It can be anything. Players who give some thought to their character's history and motivations get more enjoyment out of any game.
  20. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus I hope they do! But mine won't be for sale any time soon.
  21. Re: Need help with the Gods Gods of fire, sun, water, and the moon are fairly standard in most mythology.

  23. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus We've had a blast using Hero and Planescape together. All of the strange races in Sigil are easily represented using Fantasy Hero. So many of the planar creatures have magical abilities as well as martial abilities, and Hero just works better for that than AD&D. For our first Planescape game I had all of the players create characters who were Primes. Since none of the players knew anyting about Sigil and the Planes, this worked very well. For the later games I have allowed them to create Planar characters since the players now understand more of the campaign setting and how things work. We've had Tieflings, a minotaur, lesser Baatezu, a half vampire, a sentient amulet, a warrior golem (really a hollow, animated suit of armor), a sentient sword, an Illithid, a gargoyle, various "plane-touched" humans, and a whole menagerie of other unusual creatures as player characters. It's a wide open setting where almost anything can work if the players provide a good background for their character concepts. One of the biggest challenges for a Planescape campaign is narrowing down the setting. The Planes are infinite and the characters can travel almost anywhere given the correct gate key. Our first group of characters used Sigil for a base and explored the Planes. The later groups have spent most of their time in Sigil, involved with business dealings and intrigue among the various Factions. It's been a lot of fun for everyone involved so far.

  25. Re: [sigil Campaign] The Journal of Typhus Welcome Undertaker! I thought you would probably use Ash or Half-Ash for your screen name! LOL
