His father is a member of DEMON (The Cabal) and used Uriel as a child in unspeakable ways. The reason he is a vigilante is to have a chance to strike back at his father and those like him who live beyond touch and beyond the law. Strangly (or not) Uriel will not do anything that might bring him into conflict with his fahter, who has instilled a fear so deep in the vigilante that it may never be overcome.Quote:Background: Uriel was an olympic gymnast whose dream of gold was cut short by a botched burglary that left him with two broken legs and a broken dream. Even with the extensive investigation and the assistance of his father, a United States Senator little was ever discovered about the perpurtrators.Powers/Tactics: Uriel is direct and often deadly. He generally uses a streetsweeper shotgun or a P-15 with special ammunition. The incredibly stong man is not afraid to get physical and has beaten several of his foes sensless rather than use a weapon from a safe range.Campaign Use: [EDITED] This is an approximation. The character was killed in approx 96-97 and I haven't seen him here bouts for about 3 computer lifetimes. Having said that, I think the write up is close. Here is the HDC
  2. I think Nightstick gets a little short changed in the Ego Board - mainly cause he in a skills intensive character and required a hell of alot of points where I and the others could be much more versitile than he. BUT the Nightstick was basically invisible (18+ Stealth Roll) and a brutal hand to hand combatant. He never would have gotten beat up by a Cardshark agent
  3. I still need to detail the DEMON battle. It was wild.
  4. You have to look for Maibus buried in here..... The Chronicle of the Kings _ _ The Kings of Middea In a time of darkness, Sojen took up the blade of his father and fought for his people, killing the dragon Dayhock that had laid waste to the Spring Kingdoms. After he had done this thing, the clan leaders and druids came to him speaking of a new Kingdom of Summer, so he took these men to him built his Kingdom of Summer and called this land Danmorland or Land of the River Spirits. Sojen founded the clan on the site of Dayhock's cairn and called it Chandra. His wealth and wisdom was great and many came to him and offered fealty to the Great King, who took all that would serve faithfully and honor the old ways of the druids. He set forth a book of laws called the Nosh Nog Re. Sojen ruled his lands for many years but one day when the castle bestirred itself he was gone. Many are the legends that tell different stories of his disappearance but none know the truth of the matter. Sojen's son Liagh took his fathers throne. Laigh was a well-loved king, known for his generosity and his courage. After he had ruled for many years and his wife had passed, the good king was beholden to take a bride for the sake of his kingdom's peace, though he loved her not. The good king met his bride to be, Seira, on the border of his kingdom to escort her caravan but they were attacked and overwhelmed by trolls, Laigh escorted the lady and her guards to safety but fell in battle to a black troll named Tuul. His bride to be was so moved by the courage of her betrothed that she refused to return to her own lands and instead married the brave kings brother. Liagh's son Ben Edar took the throne after his father and was stern man. His rule was strong and his name rivaled that of his grandfather. Under him, the Danmorland's grew to encompass all of the lands of men such that it was one kingdom from shore to shore. But his reign was not without trouble for many of the petty kings served him not from love but from fear of his power and so they plotted against him in secret. Ben Edar was without peer in battle but fell to silent blades and poison. The son of Ben Edar took the throne as a youth and died before he became a man. Nemed, the uncrowned king was the last of his line. The maid of Laigh and his brother bore a son named Eolus, who took the throne after the death of his nephew Nemed. For many years Eolus broke the backs of those who had plotted against his cousin and his uncle for they were well loved by him and he was of the old line of his family and was possessed of great strength and courage. The rule of Eolus was long but troubled when he passed his life had been spent reclaiming the lands of his uncle. The son of Eolus, Oisin the Great, took the throne at his father's death. Oisin made war on the terrible things that lurked in the darkness and brought fire and death to the trolls of the Trollstones. Oisin's name was a bane on the servants of the Adversary and his sword was called the Sun's Flame or Namring and was mightily forged with Elan such that none who dwelt in shadow could stand against it. Oisin's rule was long and he died abed. Rathin the diseased took the throne from his father but was too sickly too rule and so he gave the throne to his brother, Skarn the younger. Skarn was a mighty warrior like his father and sought to earn a name even greater. He had ruled for less than a decade before he and Namring were lost to a creature called the Mabius. Skarn's younger brother, Gann took the throne but Gann was a very wicked man and a weak king. Gann found himself under the sway of the enchanter Arleth Crow. The mage beguiled the young king with whispers of power and wealth. Soon, the Crow impoverished the nobles and forbid the teachings of the old ways, expelling the druids from court. Now Rathin the diseased honored the old ways and sought to dethrone his weak brother. Rathin recalled the knights of Sojen also called the Holy Order of Sheel and so he traveled through the lands of Danmorland calling on knights and honest men to rally to his call. When he had an army, Rathin the Diseased lead them in battle and destroyed the armies of his wicked brother. The youngest brother of Rathin, called Egan, led twelve great knights into the fortress at Nadrak to slay the enchanter and free the kingdom but Arleth Crow was not to be found. More than thirty years had past, but once again Rathin the diseased sat on the throne of Danmorland and he ruled for another 30 years before his great grandson placed him alongside of his seven wives._ Prince Egan, the king's blade, trained his son to follow in his stead and so the Sheel Knights or Shield Knights as they had come to be called were formed in honor of the king. Jhoren, son of Egan, sought glory beyond even that of being the leader of the thirteen. Taking twelve true men and knights they rode forth to rid the land of Arleth Crow. The Shield knight found the Enchanter and did battle with him in his dark tower but when they emerged they had fallen under his sway and laid siege to the small people of Danmorland, killing and burning wherever they rode. The true names of the fallen are lost to men now to hide their family's shame, all except for Jhoren the Forsaken. Egan the Elder as he was now known, summoned his knights to him and rode out to meet his son. The King's Blade took the life of his son and the fallen were destroyed but the Shield knights were also brought low and at the end of Rathin's reign his great grandson took the throne as the first whispers of the Bregamen [steel men = Vintrians]._ Duran, great grandson of Rathin took the throne but he passed within the year, leaving the throne to his son Etan. The Bregamen brought their armies into the Danmorland and sought to bring the lands of the river spirits into their empire but the Marshall of Middea made war against them and laid their greatest warriors low with his blade called Calibrn. Now Severn fought for more than two seasons against the enemy in the field but his brother grew weary and his courtiers begged him to sue for peace and vassalage within the empire. Etan the abdicator kneeled before the Vintrian general but Severn was too proud to kneel and refused to surrender. He named himself Mark of Erenn and in doing so the Duke of Severn, Marshal of Middea and brother to the king broke Danmorland. In the passing centuries the Kings of Erenn and The Kings of Middea would make war more than any other peoples in the history of men but that is the story of the Kings of Erenn._ Etan lived into old age like his great grandfather and passed his throne to his grandson Sorin who was the first to rule under a Vintrian king. King Sorin had a wandering eye and was known to bed many women. Sorin married his cousin Lamia who bore him two sons and a daughter but such a marriage was an affront to his nobles who demanded that he set her aside and take a proper bride. So it was that the third son of Sorin and child of his second wife, Andris the pious became king after his father._ Talin the usurper, eldest son of Sorin, plagued the rule of Andris and would have taken the kingdom if not for Nestor the middle child of Sorin who sided with his younger brother. Talin the usurper followed in his father's footsteps and married his sister giving rise to a lesser line that still plagues the throne of Middea. The females of the Morglay line are known to practice witchcraft and legend even holds that Lamia still plots against the Ragnerik line. The crown of Sorin passed to his third born child, also named Sorin who was the only surviving issue. Sorin fathered Tamarak who is favorably compared to Sojen & Oisin and abdicated the throne to his son and retired to a monastery. Tamarak the Mor King, freed his people from Vintrian rule and faced the returned power of the Fallen Twelve, his blade Dirnwyn is said to have brought 3 of the 12 the final death. Sadly, the Mor king died without issue and the throne passed to his cousin, Darig the unready but not before much strife with the daughters of Lamia. Darig ruled with the consent of the Privy Council. To bolster his claims, Darig married his second cousin; Queen Eletha bore seven sons and three daughters. She ruled by her husband's side and survived him by more than thirty years. The Eleth children transformed modern Middea, and were involved in many adventures and exploits. The eldest of the Eleath, Balor did battle with a beast named Maibus and was never seen again so the throne passed to his brother Balin._ During his reign, a nobleman gained much power within Balin's court and took to calling himself the Blade of Danmor. Fingol Corann was a powerful western nobleman and a skilled bladesman, his parties and festivals were the talk of the kingdom known to provide foods and fare not to be found elsewhere in all of Middea. Corann was little loved in the king's court and had made it know that the king was not welcomed at his own. Words between Fingol and Bresel, younger brother to the king resulted in swordplay and the death of two of the Eleth brothers. The king declared Fingol Corann outlaw and sent his men to take him prisoner but in the ensuing struggle it was revealed that Fingol Corann was one of the Twelve Fallen Shield Knights of legend. After killing yet another of the kings brothers, Bren the broken for he was tortured before being slain, Fingol fled the kingdom with news that the Middean Kings meant to tax the western nobles to pay wereguild on the kings brothers who were rightfully slain. The resulting struggle resulted in the succession of the Western States and the formation of Eadon. Balin's son, Nestor took the throne after him. Nestor was a distant king, but upheld the laws and rebuilt the kingdom after his father's wars._ Nestor was succeeded by his daughter's eldest boy who was still a minor when he took the throne. Garlon was a good king and continued the work of his grandfather but had his reign cut short by his own son who did not want to wait for the throne. Liadin was a brutal king and little loved by his people but he was skilled in war and dealing death. His reign lasted more than two decades and saw many improvements within the kingdom. His incessant wars with both Erenn and Eadon did little to help his people who suffered greatly under his taxes. Liadin's crown passed to his son, who fell from a tower in a drunken stupor while celebrating his father's death leaving the crown to his younger brother Morigan. Morigan spent most of his life in fear of the enemies of Middea most especially Mabius and Lamia. His fear led him to extravagant expenses and bizarre quests. He was reputed to posses a magical mace and trained his men in the skills of fighting ghosts and mages. Morigan was skilled beyond most in personal combat and other than his paranoia he would have been an ideal king. Many say that Morigan was fated to die at the hands of Mabius, since he sought out the creature in the fifteenth year of his reign. He never returned. The son of Morigan was Bren, who was also a mighty warrior. Bren only survived his father by six years before he was slain by poison in his wine. Bren's youngest brother Talin took the crown and had the lords responsible for his brother's death drowned in wine._ Talin had three sons and the youngest was Brand, who was married to a princess of Lorain to secure certain treaties. When both of Brand's brothers died at the Battle of Breaker's Hold he became the crown prince. Rather than face a dynastic challenge with Bran's offspring being a Numerian prince and the king of Middea Talin annulled his son's marriage and sent the princess back to her people. Princess Amidiss returned home in shame, indicating to her father that she had been despoiled and was with child. War in the southern provinces began shortly thereafter but the affair was mostly a sporadic series of engagements rather than a full-blown conflict. Brand gave birth to Sorin, the current king of Middea. Sorin has three siblings Orin, Tylen, and Gareth who survive, as well as an uncle._ Sorin was married to the sister of the Duke of Wingate but divorced her and disinherited his son Andris in favor of a bastard from the Lind family line who is claimed as his own. Prince Rafn is currently the crown prince._ The year is now 1075 and three men all claim the throne as their own.
  5. To add a little more to the whole history thing - Dang...I forgot that for some reason I can't seem to post crap for jpgs on this board. You will need to click through to see the cool [iMO] tapestry.
  6. How about Annex a game using flat stones, 10 each of 3 different colors on a checker like board. Simple to learn difficult to master. Must defend against the opposing color while capturing the neutral color. That picture looks awful Irish to me. I'm mostly german but I got enough Irish in to count PS - I need to write up that last Omega battle for Eddie. It was literally hair teeth and eyeballs. Some of the hair of my chinnee-chin-chin stuff that occured was amazing.
  7. I aint shy bout admitting this is a "fantasized and romantisized" England/Ireland amalgamation. 1066 fits right in there. Hummmm. A game to replace chess. It has to be one of skill and not luck....too bat Stregos is taken. Let me google for a minute to come up with something.

  9. Sorry, never played elder scolls. Are you buying your spells or are you buying research which gives you the knowledge to cast spells? If you are buying the knowleddge to cast the spell, that is really just research and I would treat it as such. If you are talking about buy a scroll and cast it - I would maybe give them a MPP with each slot representing a scroll that only has one charge. When they come back to town they can get new slots?.......No clue sorry.
  10. There is a write up that is pretty good for Conan already. Conan Thread
  11. KS that is a pretty sweet logo. Kinda twisted. I had made a logo a long time ago but that may have been 2 computers ago. Sweet site. I am gonna have to send you Specter, Predator, Wildcard, and Uriel. I will need to make the last three up from recall, unless the excel sheets on still on my HD. I think Eddie has a nice rogues gallery that he might be able to update from time to time since we he is gonna run another game sometime later this year. Maybe we can suck you into the game somehow?
  12. I kinda tweaked my list with a PS and added in "cost"
  13. I limit mundane rDEF to 8.99 ***whole body DEF. This means, no more than 2 levels of Combat Luck and then you could only wear sparse armor. Magic I don't really requlate as much since it tends to be both more rare and has a cost of its own. If it looked to be a real issue then I would old school triple the cost of DEF and make players purchase armor with character points. This ensures Combat Luck would be rare and magic armor nearly so. ****Whole Body DEF = total amount of DEF across all 15 locations and then divided by 15 to get the total body average.
  14. Battle with the Pack: This starts the longest 24 hours in history I have a little bit of a different perspective than Eddie, but in hindsight it appears that we [the Omega Team] might have been wrong. The Omega Team was 100% positive that the Pack was just a disguise for a hostile take over of the drug trade in Hudson City - in otherwords they were bad guys trying to disguise themselves as vigilantes. They were also brutally violent. We had teased them 2 or 3 times [see my interview] but the result was just a stepping up of the violence. They were also making the town very hot for us as far as HCPD was concerned. When we met, there was gonna be blood. The fight was on the shipyards and covered a huge area, like 3 battlemats HUGE! There were ships, cargo, cranes, and other big obstacles in the way. It either was or had been raining - foiling the Predators inviso-shield. Nightstick started the battle, IIRC and ended his opponent really, really fast - a "roll to hit" - "head shot" - "he is dead." That set the tone for the whole battle. Then came the big surprise, a true blue flying, flaming super villain in the form of Ashtray Art. He had Mongrel and Mongrels 50 Cal machine gun with him. Predator took a nasty wound right off the bat - either 10 or 11 body through to the shoulder. Hipprocrates was busy, unsuccessfully, trying to beat down the "Rottwieler" but had to pull off of him to help out against Mongrel. Nightstick ended up with a real fight on his hands, I think the guy could do something to the tune of a 10-12 dice crush. Luckily he was badly hurt before he got a hold of ninja boy. About this time, I meet Doberman and his 3d6 kill with my soft spectra (zero rDEF against knives). We fight below deck, mostly with me running like hell and him chasing me in cramped quarters. I slammed a few ship type doors on him for good effect. Hippocrates was busy having the front wheel off his motorcycle blown off by Mongrel, luckily he was pretty talented and rode a wheelie while shooting his Mac-10 and heading for deep water. I think the player realized he was in an untenable position with both Mongrel and Firelord after him and the Predator already clean out of the fight. The problem was that he was more than a full move from anything that might offer any protection and that cannon of Mongrels would cut right through his armor. He made the best decision he could, dump the bike in the ocean and swim for it. How could he know that Limpit mines were 4 segments from detinating? Nightstick had finished off the Rottwieler and got whichever body it was into the truck but would take something like 10 rounds to reach Savant or Hipprocrates. I believe my commentary was something like "Nightstick get your @#&* over here, this guy is gonna gut me." And "Oh, pooh-pooh I am so dead." Doberman follows me on to the deck and I am looking for some explosive, like say a propane tank, I roll my luck..I find one..He does not fall for it (He was being played by a guy who would occasionally come to the game). I decide one more shot at the monkey boy before I make off like a bandit with my 18" Linegun swing. The Limpits go off right as I am swinging, my roll to hit is a 3, and then I manage to get a level of luck. I choose to bypass armor since I had a good hit location (11). I roll 3d6 (I spent my level of luck to bump the damage up and rolled a 6 or +3 Killing DC) and then I roll 18 damage on the Killing attack. 18 BODY to the chest past any armor From our point of view, the Pack was playing just as deadly as we were. I think that only Rotweiller was purposefully killed but can't swear to it. Nightstick just got lucky with a headshot to start things going. That .50 cal of Mongrels was not a minor chastisement It was for keeps. For some reason I think Dancer was stuck in some cargo crates with someone looking for her. Maybe that is what distracted Mongrel from finishing off the Predator. This was to date the most brutal and deadly fight we had, even worse that Arsenal. One slip and these guys had major nasty killing attacks that could take us clean out. Sadly, we have one battle coming up that makes this one look like a walk in Disneyland. Funny how with Eddies commentary at this point I have formulated some new ideas on what might have been happening.
  15. I always felt really bad cause he tried to call me the night he killed himself but I was watching a movie with my girlfriend so I dod not answer. Plus, as an RN I am kinda suppost to recognize that behavior. Anyway, bummer but that was years ago and I think we have all had some time to figure it out for ourselves. Now, I will get to posting that more detailed update for Eddie.
  16. I think evolution and revolution in religion is one of the things that will really bring a world to life. Most systems use a 3 fold approach - those who fight, those who work, and those who pray as the foundation on which society rests. I take a little different approach - 1. Those who fight 2. Those who work 3. Those who pray 4. Those who enchant 5. Those who sell My game is set in a fantastical 900-1100 and the beginnings of the rise of mercantilism. The whole point is that depending on the game you want to run and when you want to run it, you focus more or less on the different foundations of society. Most games focus on #1 and occassionally #4 .... I think a the most engaging games incorporate NEARLY equal parts with number 2 lagging behind the pack but still not totally ignored. I really recommend two books on religion if you get the chance: GURPS religion and The Book of the Righteous by Green Ronin (d20 but still in the top 5 RPG books I own). Even if you do not use either in your game the ideas they can inspire/codify are well worth the price tag. I also think that one of the best things that you can do to bring a religion along is to create internal schisms. Maybe the paladins have removed themselves from the authority of the church? Or a heretic with a large following was burned at the stake and now has inspired a sect that seems to be getting stronger instead of weaker.
  17. "Fast Eddie" I think we have a winner there
  18. Taurians The Taurians are descendants of an experiment to breed perfect warriors. They were considered a success and saw many battles against the Ennwrathi. During the final battles of the Great War, the Taurians were virtually destroyed. The few survivors have spread across Uropia. They have remained close and have reputation for ruggedness durability and unwavering loyalty. The passing of years has tempered the race as a whole, leading them to develop the skills necessary to survive. Taurians are tall and thick. Though they vaguely resemble men, the slate-gray skin, nearly primate posture, feral teeth, and reddish eyes, serve notice of their decidedly un-mannish nature. Their skin is more like animal hide than human skin. Their facial features are muted and stubby. They are a huge race with an average height of 7’-5". Personality: Taurians see themselves as the legacy of war and destruction; an orphan doomed to perish but unwilling to surrender to the call of the grave. Their interactions with the other races have taught them that other races are usually weak and dishonorable – a fallow field waiting for the Corruption of the Ennwrathi. Taurians will stop at nothing to defend that which they believe to be theirs and they believe strongly in preserving their honor in their struggle for survival. Their brutish forms belie the keen minds within; many are smarter than the average human. 19. I have seen some of the research Eddie has got going on....Weirdos and weird unsolved crimes (Including one here in OKC) that are all connected into the Conclave. Some of the real stuff is obscure but just blows your socks off...Powerful Judges who just disappear...forever...Killers who whack mayors by "mistake" who also happen to be the wrong color so no other questions are asked besides where is the nearest tree. I don't know how he is putting it together but I know he has a whole boat load of stickies near his desk
  20. I can vouch for this. I am kinda of amazed at what I have discovered the last few months of going back to the begining and looking at source stuff and building a nice strong skeleton for my world. Realistic...Realism is hard and sometimes it is not fantasy. I decided to pattern things with magic. I took the ...ummm... church and put a spin on it for magical use. The Synod [Mage Guys] try to regulate magic in all countries, they extort kings with fees for "arcane protection" require that all Chantries are sovriegn ground, giving rise to a sort of 3rd law - Temporal, Cannocial, and Magical - the mages of the synod are granted trial by peers....meaning unless it is treason or something close to that magnitude then they are going to get off. I have some healers (the Order of Apathos) that formed the most powerful guild in the world when a gifted healer was brought before a king and was made to heal the worst sort of men. He refused and the king threw him in the dungeon. The semi-affiliated healers basically boycotted the country (Officially called a "Censure" and refused to heal anyone within the realm. They refused to attend births...etc....The king caved in the face of a common uprising. Magic should affect the world and its political bodies but remember that people still feel most at home with a "pseudo-european mideval fantasy" sort of model, d20 aside. Anyhoo, just my thoughts.
  21. Affects desolid [sX = ghostly desolid]. It is a hold over from the d20 game. I will still use it though. I like it that some metals have special properties.
  22. Thanks. I really am not that touchy Feel free to shoot relative critism. Maybe I should figure out how that ignore list works. Done. That was pretty easy, never had to use it before though.
