  1. Re: WWYCD: Any last words? Guardian is possessed of truly phenomenal regeneration, capable of replacing a major organ within a few seconds, she wouldn't fear Venom at all. Checkmate, being essentially normal, aside from a 38 Int and skills/powers derived therefrom, would try to cure the disease, but doesn't have any secrets he'd give away. He can be incredibly cold and ruthless, so, while he would say goodbye to his wife and son, he wouldn't get sentimental about it. Finally, one I haven't brought in, Ice Rose is completely and totally immune to all genetic damage - even a total transform will be reversed within 5 minutes. And his Telekinesis is quite capable of entering his own body and isolating the biota of Venom for research.
  2. Re: WWYCD: Registration Contact information, the government already has for both Checkmate and Guardian. In fact, they already have pretty much all the information that Registration would have asked for. But both would still oppose Registration. The second form, listed above, would be opposed by Checkmate, largely because he doesn't have a high opinion of anything government, knows how to get information even from 'need to know' areas, and knows villains who could do the same. After all, he'd reason, even local agencies can't often get warnings out reliably for emergencies - how much more idiotic to expect a Federal agency to be able to? Guardian would generally support the second, as long as it was entirely voluntary, and only held telephone numbers, preferably in such a way that they couldn't be reverse directoried to give addresses.
  3. Re: WWYCD: Registration Checkmate Already has a public ID - But not only would he not register, he'd go out of his way to prove that the government could not keep the data safe, thus undercutting their claims of secrecy and safety. As his primary job is the CEO of a Security company - both physical and data - he's in a very good position to prove just that. Guardian Would emigrate - she's got friends in numerous other countries, one of who is actually the monarch. She'd be pretty public, too - "Feel free to ask me back when the criminals - who won't be registered - overwhelm your registered patsies."
  4. Re: WWYCD: "Dude, you stole my shtick!" Checkmate would promptly challenge him to a chess match. If he were, indeed, a dimensional duplicate, that would be all the proof needed, and Checkmate would work with him to get him home. If he weren't, he'd lose, and that would be all that Checkmate felt would be needed to convince the public who had the right to the name. (Unless the GM was being a twidiot, Checkmate's native intelligence and sheer skill make him THE world's best - ever - chess player. I don't play him in any world where that won't be true. It's a signature thing for him.)
  5. Re: Name That Band Hero! Indeed they are.
  6. Re: Name That Band Hero! Yes it is - and I could have, but felt that might have been a giveaway.
  7. Re: Name That Band Hero! Of my last, the following are still outstanding: The new heroes of Crystal City, SC:The Light of Freedom Songbird - a sonic energy projector Liberty - a teleporter/mini-brick The Painter - An illusionist extraordinaire Rose of England - An obviously female, british themed armour suit. Battling them regularly are: The Confederacy Enola Gay - Radiation based Energy Projector The Tesla Girls - Electrically themed twin sisters Maid of Orleans - Brick Finally, there's San Francisco, where two superhero teams often battle a truly scary villain group. Based in Berkeley, The Faerie Lights are: Undrentide - A water elemental The Rose - Martial Artist / Weapons Mistress Lhiannon Shee - A sonic/pheremone based energy projector. Working out of San Francisco proper, The Bay Guardians are: Black Crow - Mystical warrior Ocean Gypsy - Water Sorceress Morning Star - Metallic Brick
  8. Re: Name That Band Hero! Both correct.
  9. Re: Name That Band Hero! Correct.
  10. Re: Name That Band Hero! I decided to go overboard today. I have several: The new heroes of Crystal City, SC:The Light of Freedom Songbird - a sonic energy projector Liberty - a teleporter/mini-brick The Painter - An illusionist extraordinaire Rose of England - An obviously female, british themed armour suit. Based in Berkeley, The Faerie Lights are: Undrentide - A water elemental The Rose - Martial Artist / Weapons Mistress Lhiannon Shee - A sonic/pheremone based energy projector. Working out of San Francisco proper, The Bay Guardians are: Black Crow - Mystical warrior Ocean Gypsy - Water Sorceress Morning Star - Metallic Brick Black Seraph give both a difficult time. 11. Re: Name That Band Hero! That is correct, sir.
  12. Re: Name That Band Hero! Another one: Gold Bug - a gold coloured, insectile armour suit. The Traveler - A teleporter Silence and I - A brother and sister gestalt Sirius - Plasma/Solar Energy projector.
  13. Re: Name That Band Hero! Entirely correct, sir.
  14. Re: Name That Band Hero! ABBA. And another one... Contact - Tactile Telekinetic Omegaman - Flying Brick Deathwish - Mentalist Darkness - Demonic Wizard
  15. Re: Name That Band Hero! No clue - not without looking it up. Now for mine. Lionheart - Armour suit Hammer Horror - Monstrous Brick Rubberband Girl - Stretching Martial Artist Cloudbuster - Flying Energy Projector. (Took a bit of a liberty with the last.)
  16. Re: DC veterans, help me pick current DC titles! Okay, I'm confuzzled... He was Ion briefly, back in the GL comic, when he got all the GL power that Parallax had stolen... Then he released it, reconstituting the Guardians... How does he become Ion again?
  17. Re: Defensive Luck - Just a Power Gamer's Tool?? Or Wyatt Earp. Now there's a poster child for Combat Luck (or maybe true 'luck-based' armour). Despite the sheer number of shootouts he got into - in one case, a shotgun duel at something like 20 or 30 feet - he never got hit.
  18. Re: WWYCD: Stark Contrast Checkmate - being a world-class detective, would find him. Of course, I'm not sure that Checkmate would come into being hunted in the first place, since he can be pretty black-and-white as it is... But if he were, the colour differential would disorient him briefly, until he figured out a way to compensate. He would find Manichaen and teach him that imposing one's views on others, however right you think you are, is very definitely 'bad', with no shades of gray. (Would he find a way to compensate? He's got a 38 Int, Invention, and about 6 scientific PhDs... I think he would.)
  19. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Deathstroke vs. The Justice League in IC. I don't consider it bad because he nearly won, I consider it bad because it was poorly written, and he was beating them in ways he shouldn't have been able to.
  20. Re: WWYCD: framed My initial reaction stands. If a GM did that to my characters, I would stand and walk.
  21. Re: WWYCD: "There are those who believe..." Checkmate's easy - he's a superscientist, so he'd be a quick pick for the crew. He'd respond readily enough, but his voice doesn't tend to carry a lot of emotion. "I am Denis Charles Chalis of Earth. Now kindly withdraw your fighters." On the other hand, I played in a no points, high-powered game that would likely cause an interstellar incident. The members of the group were: Ice Rose, a Julian May Metapsychic, exceeding Paramount Grandmaster in TK and Creativity; Iyinne, a feline split personality Phoenix; a Greek God, and the Granddaughter of Ming the Merciless. The arrogance alone coming off that ship would stop the convoy in their tracks. :-)
  22. Re: WWYCD: The Mirror, Mirror Trap This is a toughie for most of my superheroic characters, as they have a tendency to be pretty amoral. Not villains, but they're acting heroically for reasons far removed from altruism and fellow-feeling. Checkmate, for example, is a hero primarily for two reasons. 1) There are an awful lot of megalomaniacal geniuses out there for him to pit his intelligence against, and 2) Simple logic shows that no one - not even Dr. Destroyer - has been able to avoid capture entirely, therefore it is the better path to avoid legal entanglements. So his doppelganger would be one of two things. Since he doesn't let his emotions cloud his reason, his doppelganger could be emotional and mystical, or his doppelganger could be him in a situation where the greatest challenge was against the heroes. In the first, Checkmate would slice his doppelganger a new one, as uncontrolled emotion and martial arts are never a good idea. In the second, Checkmate would simply point out the logic that led him to his decision, and convince the doppelganger to join him - or, possibly, to work together to break out of the room and go their separate ways so both could finally get a true challenge.
  23. Re: WWYCD: framed Ditto. Actually, if this happened to any character of mine, with a few exceptions, it would be a cue for the player (me) to stand up and leave the game. The few exceptions are all characters with so much reputation and history that it would require world-class mind control to get any large group to believe it happening, and they would trust that reputation, cooperate with the police, and call someone who could prove them innocent.
  24. Re: WWYCD: Will you forgive me? Let's see... Checkmate He isn't ruled by emotion, so doesn't have anyone he hates. On the flip side of that, he would have to see solid evidence that the person has reformed. In any event, his response would be "If you wish forgiveness, you must ask it of your victims or their families. I can neither offer you forgiveness nor atonement - that is for them." Guardian Doesn't hold grudges. If someone's hurt her directly, she's already either killed them or died trying. If they've somehow escaped her immediate response, she'll be willing to listen, and will usually give them the benefit of the doubt.
