Re: Random Spaceship Generator
Progress so far-http://www.curufea.com/games/ship.php
HTML only, table with borders - no corridors just rooms, horizontal symmetry.
Yeah, but it's still wicked cool.
"You must spread rep . . . " etc.

Re: New option: Absolute Abilties, help please
You seem to be using a lot of arbitrary terms:
This Absolute Ability interrupts and halts the Aim process, trumping it and yielding a Successful Target. OCV and DCV don’t factor into it anymore. The Aim process? A Successful Target? Trumping?
If I understand exactly what you mean, you don't need absolute anything to do this. Just buy No Range Mod, gain initiative, and define your attack to happen just as your opponent aims. Lot less expensive. I think you're working too hard to come up with a solution to a problem no one actually has.
Besides, absolutes are boring. If your target is invulnerable: no tension, no drama.

Re: Random cave maps
Here you go-
The tile stats are listed on sheet 1. The guts of the map are shown on sheet 2 as well as the button to generate the map, and the button to fill in the edges (hit ALT+F11 to see the VBA macro). Sheet 3 has the HTML I cut & pasted to form maps 2-9. Sheet 4 is used to create the text files I use for the PHP version.
On a side note - you can put maps on your own pages without needing to copy the images, by taking the final HTML and inserting a base HREF tag to point to my website.
Thank you!
Looking forward to the random starship generator.

Re: Random Spaceship Generator
I'd vote "Hell yeah"' date=' though I'll be interested how you modify the randomness so that you don't end up with engine bays and latrines scattered piece-meal all over the map [/quote']Actually, that sounds perfect for my Relief Frigate.

Re: the goblin glider
Follower.Yeah, I prefer this approach to things that function without the conscious direction of the PC, or have skills the PC doesn't.

Re: Learning from the mistakes of others
There was a game industry before CCGs? How did they make money back then? Now if you want to see me sprout hate, talk about D3.5. I have not even played it and I cannot stand it's messed-up-ness.
Love, mostly. And the books were cheaper. It was a better world. Steve Jackson made games you could buy for pocket money and play in an afternoon. Traveller books were, what, $10/supplement? Remember when Mercenaries and High Guard came out? That excitement?
CCG ruined the industry. And as far as 3.5, don't knock what you ain't tried.
But honestly, a good GM can use any system, or none at all.

Re: Spectre of 6e
Welcome to Hero. We're here to answer any question you've got - as many times as it takes to get you all the correct answers. Which, for the average question, is about 4-6 correct answers.
Too true! Try that in 4e!

Re: The Addams Family
The feats of casual physical strength by Gomez and Fester, coupled with near invulnerability, and the utter, charming, ruthlessness of Wednesday. These are a few of my favorite traits.

Re: Clever Future Weapons
Well' date=' it's going to be my first gun, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to be extra safe. The grip and trigger safetys are both operated in the course of normal operation of the gun (gripping & trigger pull), but the thumb safety is outside of that envelope -- which is another reason why I want it.[/quote']The XD was my first handgun. It's safe enough for California, which means it has gone through the drop test. No complaints here about extra safety, though.

Re: Unreal Darwin Awards
Not a death, but very fun: I was running a Star Wars game, and they had captured a mercenary. While kneeling, and tied up, he started to taunt one of the Jedi. She got so mad she hauled off and belted him.
"Are you sure you want to do this? He's tied up."
"I don't care, I'm really mad at him."
She knocked him out, and I gave her a Dark-Side point. She looked at me like I had just killed a puppy.
"What's this about?"
"You FILLED YOURSELF WITH RAGE and then STRUCK A HELPLESS CAPTIVE!" Everybody started laughing, and she was just so pissed at me she couldn't talk.
After that we started sort of a running joke: "I fill myself with rage and clean the refrigerator!" "I fill myself with rage and scrub the floors." "I fill myself with rage and brush my teeth."

Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat
'Toast' is the way restaurants get rid of bread that's too old to use for sandwiches and too bland to use for croutons.Wow, dude, too real.
Toast is actually the larval stage of the creature known as the Bear Claw.

Re: Nanotech Jewellry and Clothing
Amazing! I can't wait for more such jewelry!
"Must spread" etc., etc.

Re: Clever Future Weapons
"Thumb safety" my aunt Melissa and her Electric Rifle. The XD already has a trigger safety and a grip safety -- how much more safe does it have to be? :grumble:

Re: Random cave maps
Can you post your Excel spreadsheet? I'd love to see how it was coded.

Re: What happens when a new GM doesn't understand game balance
My first group formed in middle school. It sort of folded when some of us started going to Beresford on friday nights. There are times I really miss it.

Re: Clever Future Weapons
I have set my sights (pun intended) on buying myself an XD 5" .45 ACP Service Model with Thumb Safety and 13+1 Round Capacity. IIRC all the stats. But the one Gunsmith/Gun Store that I've been going to says they still aren't available.??!! I have the 5" tactical .45 ACP with 10+1 even here in Kalifornia! Is it because they're coming out with the XD(M)?

Re: Clever Future Weapons
It's all about use. Most of the Deputies I know carry Glocks, because they're issued. They were issued because they require little maintenance and are very reliable. Some of the tactical shooters I know use heavily-customed rigs. Some of these people are the same people. They don't compete with their service weapons, because accuracy is more important in competition than ease of maintenance.
When I asked deputies about what gun I should buy, they recommended the Glock or the XD, because they are easy to maintain, and the polymer is hard to ding the way metal is. The competitors all recommended the Sig Sauer. All of them recommended the .45 caliber.
I picked the XD over the Glock because the XD holds ten rounds in California, and up to fourteen everywhere else.

Cool find. Thanks for sharing. You're very welcome.

Re: What happens when a new GM doesn't understand game balance
it all depends on the group you first gamed with. My first gaming group couldn't spell roleplaying if you spotted them all the consonants. That wasn't the Beresford group, was it?

Re: An idea I'm not sure how to build.
Buying a vehicle, outside the multipower of course, is prolly better.

Re: Clever Future Weapons
Shhh! Make sure you're covering your internet connection with a Trace Buster before you say stuff like that!(Points to anyone who can cite the reference)
Cover that with a Trace Buster Buster, and you'll be a Big Hit.

I like this approach. Reminds me of Amber, and is a great deal simpler.
