  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I finally picked this game up and when the packages come in from NewEgg I'm going to have the hardware to run it. Is there a HERO-centric heroteam or something?
  4. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... We both know way too much to be "innocent."
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I've never heard of a Domme who goes around with an index card with "Whip + 3" written on it.
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Is it just me or are there a disproportionate amount of S&Mers into RPGs?
  7. Re: The things you pick up from Cartoon Network Here's the great thing about the Venture Brothers: 1) There has to be an anachronistic psychlim "I think and act like it's the 1960s." 2) The Guild of Calamatous Intent is indeed badass. I like the idea of supervillians with a heirarchy, rules, etc. \ 3) Henchmen with a reason for Henching: "Well, I don't have a college degree, and when the plant closed down, it was either working for the Monarch or back to the Army." "I wuz on the drugs and the booze, and the Monarch gave me a new chance for life." "You guys -kidnapped- me when I was 15!"
  8. Re: What Champions Books Would You Like Published in the Future? Also: Dark Champions: Monster Hunters Tagline: "Get enough exorcise lately?" Covering: Gothic Monsters, Very Very Old Gods, Pop Culture Spouting Monster Hunters, Fighting Monsters for Fun and Profit, 101 things to do in Vibora When You're Dead, The Afterlife (or: Your Mileage May Vary,) Evil Is As Evil Does, or why some monsters can be good and some human monster hunters can be monsters, and Science And Superstition. Bonus points for including a cryogenics institute haunted by the ghosts of the not-exactly-dead-nor-alive called "Icy Dead People" (Saw the pun on RPG.net and it just is too good to ignore.)
  9. Re: What Champions Books Would You Like Published in the Future? Thirded! And if you need any extra help on research or background material, I do have a postgraduate degree in journalism. Sure, lots has been written on Lois Lane and Superman, but how much has been written on: -- Superheroes and the Blogosphere -- Living intelligent memeplexes and How They Use The Media To Turn Us Into Pod People. -- Media Apathy, or Civic Defenders meet Civic Disengagement. -- Supervillian Spin -- Fourth Amendment Privacy Laws and superheroes: When Superdude's Superhearing is inadmissable. -- Partisan news agencies, bias, and you: Why Foxglove News cuts Dr. Destroyer so much slack. -- Obscenity and Radio Interference: The FCC. -- The Underground Media -- 23 Reporters -- -- The Paranoid Journalist -- -- The Lazy Press Release Journalist -- -- Competent Editors -- -- Incompetent Editors -- Secret Identities vs. the public's right to know. -- Conflicts of Interest *cough* clark kent *cough* -- Media Law -- -- In the U.S. and Canada -- -- In Great Britain and the Commonwealth -- -- In China and the rest of Asia -- -- In Qatar and the Middle East -- Dynamics of a Newspaper: What's a news story, investigative story, or feature story? -- Superheroes and your local Sports Journalist. -- Journalists on the take -- Television and the network system, cable, satellite, tivo... -- "Costume Malfunctions"
  10. It has no practical purpose, but I'd like to see how the tiny prince and his starting-small-but-growing Katamari would be built under the HERO system... And let's face it. A giant ball of garbage with it's own gravitational pull in Manhattan? You -know- the Justice League would be right -on- that. As in - stuck on it, like flies to flypaper. And, hey, got a character with the Grow power that finds they really aren't of much use in missions that take place indoors, (unless "indoors" happens to include an airport hanger?)
  11. Re: Alternate Settings: Rules to villany
  12. Was working on this idea in the car and wanted to get your opinion on it: The Premise: Heroes and Villians act like heroes and villians in a 4-color sense in a "real world" setting because they realise that they end up working in a mutually benificial matter. Heroes get endorsement deals and fame and celebrity, Villians who play by the rules get a good chance to get away richer and even if they get "caught" jail time isn't hard, and they can pretty much break out any time they want to. It's an open secret. Some jeweler wants to gain some publicity and has some semi-precious material that they can't move. They start putting the good stuff someplace safe and leave the off-the rack stuff nearby and put the word out that they could use some publicity. A villian comes in and robs the place, maybe he's stopped, maybe he's not. The Villan's Code: 1) Villians must not injure or harm citizens. Money's one thing, but people are another matter. 2) Villians must steal only from those who can afford it, and only a moderate amount. 3) Villians must construct death traps with A) an easily accessible escape route, and a failsafe to actually prevent the actual death in question in case something goes horribly wrong. Etc., etc., Help me flesh out this idea?
  13. Re: WWYCD: The Vampire Who Doesn't Want to be a Vampire Anymore Caleb: "Join the club!" Barnstormer: Would probably try to sleep with her first, but keep her under locked quarantine until such a cure can be found.
  14. Re: Help, the car hit the character! Getting hit by a car in Champions is normal damage. Getting hit by a car in Dark Champions is killing damage. It all depends on the genre.
  15. Re: New to system... character ?? I'm not sure I like the term, "survivable character" because it tends to imply that your GM's job is to make it difficult for you to survive. Honestly, if your character can't handle it, a decent GM would alter the level of the opposition to match the level of the character... What you want to do is sit down with your GM. See what type of character you want - you could make a combat wimp, but so long as he provides the inventions OR he provides the brainpower, he'd fit right in the party. Work on what you want from your concept first. Before you worry about RKAs, OIHID, or BOHICAs, if you want a character like, say Batman, try putting a few points in stealth, maybe an "invisibility" power (He's so good at sneaking around, he -might as well be- invisible, goes the Herothink.) If you can sneak past your enemies, perhaps you don't have to worry about buying up any sort of armor at all. On the other hand, maybe your character is the type that wants to face straight-up danger. What you might want to do then is consider some Armor. Maybe he's too fast to get hit - or maybe he's just lucky when it comes to bullets - you could take a damage reduction vs. bullets only to represent the cinematic ability for characters who get shot to always get flesh wounds. There are a million different routes you could go with but I wouldn't worry about building a "survivable character" before you know what kind of character you want to play.
  16. Re: No Recovery in in Conbat For just one character, you could actually have them sell their base REC back to zero, then have them buy -up- REC back to that level with the limitation "no recovery in combat" which I'd list as a (-3/4) or (-1).
  17. Re: Damaging gag attacks Hell, I'll own up to it. I thought they were talking about ballgags. Which are extremely dangerous - make sure the submissive can breathe around the gag and that, if laying down, they can put their head to the side in order to drool, otherwise they can choke on their own saliva. Also, make sure that you have an alternate safeword in place - finger snapping, morse code SOS grunt (dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot) or a droppable object can make good safewords.

    Grey Goo

Okay. How would I create a character made out of Nanotech, like a Grey Goo? This one should be a real challenge. It's been a while... but... The character is a collection of nanotech molecules. These molecules can transform anything into more of it. The more molecules, the smarter, stronger, etc. he is, but he also requires electricity - which usually keeps him about average-man sized. The more molecules, the more electricity he needs to consume. The fewer molecules, the less electricity he needs to consume. So, to sum up: Little: Low Body, STR, INT, EGO, low electricity need. Medium: above average body, STR, Int, ego, medium electricity need. BIG: About twice body, STR, INT, EGO, big electricity need. Ideally should be scaleable, so I'm not sure I should use Alternate Form. Additionally, the character's size should be linked to body - in that he's forced to go from big to medium when his body score reaches a "normal" body score, and he's forced to go from medium to little when he reaches 2/3rds normal body. The character needs matter to add to his body. He should have some way to consume matter (including living matter) and doing so increases his BODY. The smallest form should not have rational thought and should exist only to consume. Other than that, the character should have the standard "plastic man" pack. Squeeze through cracks, impersonate people, perhaps create objects connected to his body. Maybe clinging.
