  1. Re: WWYCD: "He'll be back." Scarecrow: Hoo boy...why am I being put in the middle of this? I'm supposed to be a teenager. That being said...dude...your virtual society sounds good and everything, but I have to go with what I understand best, and that's being human, and take my chances that we can make the future into something worthwhile *crosses fingers*. Red Rob: INNA IT OBVIOUS! I'M A HUMAN BEING, THA'S A MACHINE! N' IF THA' MACHINE THINKS IT'S BETTER N' ME, IT'S TIME TA MAKE ITS WARRANTY EXPIRE! Darkling (retired force of space/time): *sighs* Ephemerals...you are all so stupid. The simple fact we have here is that a new species butting up against the old parent species. There are two options: The first one is being played out right now--that of one trying to destroy the other in order to survive. The other is that one species must expand beyond the normal confines in order to survive. In other words, the Transhumans should leave Earth, since--unlike the humans--the transhumans don't have the same limitations and requirements for survival. With their independence and long lifespans, they can achieve the long-held dream of every sci-fi nerd--freedom of the stars.
  2. Re: WWYCD: The Nebula Affair Polaris: The big guy would simply shrug and say "Y'know...Ah've bin needin' a break from all this superheroin', and y'all just gave me the best reason t'do so." Then he'd go tell the rest of his teammates, and together we'd "convince" her that her brand of "Law enforcement" is neither required nor desired in this jurisdiction. Dr. Kam:i She'd simply summon up 20 or so moai (her special attack robots that look like heads from Easter Islands) from one of her pocket dimensions and ask "I'm sorry...were you saying something to...DOCTOR KAMI?!?" She's a bit of a showoff and drama queen, after all. Darkling: As my oldest and most experienced (and retired) character, the experienced dimension-hopper would look her up and down...and dismiss her to a random far off dimension without another word. Then he'd get back to his fishing, complaining about all the interruptions that supervillains and wannabe incarceration specialists cause.
  3. Re: Single Green Superhero seeks.... (personels for your characters) Masque: Single female (not sure what color--I have three!), new to the city and to living in general, seeks the companionship of a good man who can show me around. Must be patient, non-smoker, like raccoons, and not be allergic to fur. Dr. Kami: SWF looking for a nice young man who isn't easily intimidated by an obviously superior intellect. I know it's hard for most of you; you're used to being better at everything. But even Dr. Destroyer is found wanting compared to DOCTOR KA-- :ahem...: Must like cats. Huntress: SWF looking for SM for impulsive good times. Must not be connected to any known corporation, government entity, secret society, Masonic order, political party or subversive organization. Be prepared to show me your ID and SSN, as I will perform a full background check.
  4. Re: Favorite Sci-Fi Weapon Well for me it comes down to a couple of weapons that really tickle my fancy. The first is the Zat from "Stargate SG-1". I don't know why I like it so much, but I think it's introduction is what really touched me, especially after Teal'c used it in a shocking way... O'NIELL: First shot stuns, second shot kills, third shot..? TEAL'C: Disintegrates. O'NIELL: And you didn't think this was important to tell me WHY? That, and it makes a nifty sound when used. The second weapon is not so man-portable--the "stop that" cannon from Robert Asperin's "Illegal Aliens". No mass destruction, no blood spray, just pull the trigger, and... STOP THAT! And they do. What could be better?
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From Gamephil's "Sorcerer's Galaxy" game earlier this week... My character Kaiba did a bad thing, and his ancestor--Talia (Yes, the same one from "Galactic Champions", though a fraction of her former might)--was having a problem with it. Talia: You just killed that...man...thing...whatever it was! Kaiba: Yeah, well...he had it coming! Talia: Oh really? Why's that? Kaiba: Well, after all that progress I was doing to get us out of here was unmade, he beamed in and said 'I could've told you that would happen.' Talia: And that's why you chopped him in half!? Kaiba: NO!! That would be irrational! I was pissed, true enough. And I said in an angry voice 'oh thank you so much!' It's what he said afterward that pushed me over the edge! Talia: And he said... Kaiba: YOU'RE WELCOME!!! Talia: And that's why...you chopped his head off? Kaiba: Well...I guess I overreacted...a little...
  6. Re: 1 Speed The only way I can ever see it working is if the players and the GM have a tremendous sense of humor. The only example of a character I've ever heard of having a SPD of 1 was a brick known as the Sloth. He was really really really strong, but he was also really really really slow. He had incredibly high defenses, and had a disadvantage that required him to make an EGO roll, or take a nap. In one situation, the heroes attacked a VIPER base by dropping him on it. He woke up briefly, wandered around while being fired upon, and fell asleep again. Finally, during a battle with the Nest Leader, Sloth woke up, noticed the Nest Leader was right there, grabbed his foot, and fell asleep with it. After which, the other players nailed the poor Nest Leader. I guess you had to be there. It was funny at the time...
  7. Re: WWYCD: "I, For One, Welcome Our New Insect Overlords" The GM was kinda nice to me on that respect. I paid 10 points for it, and it did have its limitations. A few species (like certain HP Lovecraft-based aliens), while they weren't more advanced, were advanced enough to occasionally counter her technology. The main example was the elimination of her invisible scouting drones when said Lovecraftian aliens were pushing a giant monster egg toward the Sea of Japan. Of course, it didn't stop DR. KAMI from providing a defense once the egg landed (stopped the potential tsunami), and then hatched (created a ray that turned one of our own into a monster sized superhero). "And thus, the POWER of DR. KAMI once again TRIUMPHS! And in doing so, it is another triumph for SCIENCE!"
  8. Re: WWYCD: "I, For One, Welcome Our New Insect Overlords" Dr. Kami: I was going to do my expedition into the galactic black hole today, but nooOOoo, you had to come down and make demands on top of demands on top of demands. Your annoying insistence that the other governments of this primitive world submit to you, backed up by the threat of your primitive technology (Dr. Kami's special effect is that everyone's primitive to her, I even bought a perk), have forced my hand. So I, DOCTOR KAMI, have engineered the FINAL SOLUTION to the threat of your belligerence by introducing a simple synanotech virus into the food chain. It evolves, adapts, and DOES NOT STOP until it runs out of its primary prey--which happens to be YOU!!! In short, I have created the ultimate insecticide...insect. Did I mention that Dr. Kami's something of a mad scientist? And often does mad scientist things without permission?
  9. Re: C.U. alternate world, after "Independence Day" Another possible idea: Converting the crashed ships into cities. We already convert old warehouses and such into loft living, depending on where folks are located (and the problem with cleanup), this might be a viable and attractive way to house a populace initially, and the "regular" city can branch out from there. Well...I thought it was neat anyway.
  10. Re: The Grand meeting of Superheroes: The Nexus R'lain'thyr Val Sulun're (aka: Rain), the dark elf wizard from the Turrakian Age, would eventually find her way here. She had gone from hopping around in her young 40's across various dimension, going all the way to Earth in the 31st century around age 200-something, looking for a vacation (imagine her surprise!). Now this place would be ideal! She'd throw a few parties, flirt with some folks, and maybe get involved with a few guys--as long as they realized that SHE was the one in charge. All I can think of right now. More later.
  11. Hello all. I was wondering if any of you have any advice regarding this little twist. I was thinking of making a character with a "sorta" time delayed power. That is, it's a zero-phase action to use it, but they'd have to wait a turn or so before the power could be used again. Any opinions? Ideas? Help?
  12. Re: why u all sux To borrow from a friend of mine... Damn, I think I burst my l33t gland just looking at this thread. Thank you.
  13. Re: Post your most abusive munchkin character here I once created a small group mind. Essentially, I made a character with piecemeal defenses & characteristics, 30 points for another power altogether, and mindlink to any distance with 250,000 others. Oh, and I purchased 250,000 followers with the exact same characteristics, the mind link and that same 30 points to spend on a power. I could take a small percentage of them and give them a 6D6 energy blast, and since they could perfectly communicate with one another and had teamwork...well, you do the math when a hundred of these things open up on a single opponent. The GM in question let me play this briefly more out of amusement than anything else.
  14. Re: Just testing interest:Would you would you be interested in this game? Of course I'd be interested, depending on the rules and type of character(s) I'd be allowed to play. And of course she'd be named Melinda again
  15. Re: weird villain concepts I'm surprised no one's thought of this concept yet. It's a classic... MUSTACHE MENACE: Inspired by any number of cartoons and a bunch of superpowers, his goal is to put a mustache on every poster or face display within sight. His powers revolve around mainly defenses and movement like teleport, so that he might use his cosmetic transformation attack (OAF: collection of sharpies) to put a mustache on any poster, billboard, or magazine cover in his sight.
