  1. Re: how I do "Feint" maneuver I'd prefer that it was a standard maneuver, like block or hurry - one doesn't need any special training to fake a punch and kick someone. The two methods we've tried that I liked are: A: Opposed Skill Rolls:The attacker makes a DEX roll, complemented by Sleight of Hand, if they have it, vs. their opponents PER roll, complemented by Analyze Combat. I don't remember how we ended up on those skills, but there was some discussion. Anyhow, if the attacker wins the roll, he gains +1 OCV. If he wins by 3 or more, he gains +2. A critical success is worth +3 OCV. If the defender wins the roll, the attack is automatically blocked. B: PRE Attack: The attacker makes a PRE attack vs. his opponent. If he equals or exceeds the target's PRE/EGO, he gains a +1 OCV to his attack. For every additional +5 over that, he gains an additional +1 OCV. I suppose some GMs might wish that to be +10 for each extra +1, but this has worked for us.
  2. Building a prefab for ranged weapons today, I came across something that has bothered me for a while. STR-based Ranged attacks that don't do killing damage. If you want the short version, cut to the bottom of my post. Lets take two characters each with a different weapon: Biff wields a Knife, and his slightly less deadly friend, Boff, who has a Club. The Knife can be built as an HKA, simple. However, Biff wants to be able to throw his knives, so we have two options - We could build it as an RKA, but this runs into a problem when his STR is drained by an enemy wizard, or when it's boosted when he takes a shot of Andrenaline - the power of his throw should be different. Thankfull, for the knife, this has been accounted for. We build it as an HKA with range. Now he deals damage based in part on his STR, at range. Simple, elegant, effective. Boff's club can be built as a HA. Simple. Boff doesn't just want any club though, he wants a boomerang. He's not worried about it returning when he misses, because he always hits. How to build this? We could use the normal damage equivalent of RKA, the trusty EB, but then we run into the same problem of damage being disconnected from Boff's STR. It would be simple, elegant, and effective if we could just add the Ranged modifier to HA, but that isn't allowed. So we have to make due with EB, or do we? Our other option is to buy Stretching, limited so it only works with the club to deal damage - that quickly gets expensive, and its clumsy and ugly on the character sheet. We could buy EB up to the maximum amount he would ever be able to get, and limit it to not exceed what the damage would be if it were an HA. Again, expensive and clumsy. So in short, we can have the following variations of the EB/KA attack: KA, No Range or STR KA, Based on STR, No Range KA, Ranged, No STR KA, Based on STR, Ranged EB, No Range or STR HA, Based on STR, No Range EB, Ranged, No STR but we cannot have an EB or HA which is Ranged & Based on STR. Why the heck not? How many others have been/are a tad frustrated by this, and how many of you just ignore it and let HA's be bought with range? Perhaps there are hidden reasons for this restriction that I don't see?
  3. Re: FH Weapon Prefab In the Free Stuff section of this website, you can find a prefab with the melee weapons from the core book - which is most of what you need, and I just posted a prefab with a bunch of FH missile weapons here.
  4. Re: Missile Weapons for HD Hey... how 'bout I attach the file for y'all. Here it is, this time for real.
  5. Re: Missile Weapons for HD Allright, here we go. I didn't do the guns or the blowgun, and I doubt they'll be missed much. I slightly altered the weapons to reflect the way my group has been using them, but the STR mins haven't been changed more than +/-1. So it's not exactly whats in the book, but Steve most likely wouldn't like it anyways if I were to give away the contents of his Equipment Guide.
  6. Re: Missile Weapons for HD Well, I guess I'll get started on that as soon as I get back from work. I'll post it when I finish.
  7. Re: High level Role Master conversion If all magic in your game has the RSR limitation, then a CE will work very well. Existing magic will still function, but spellcasters will have a very difficult time casting new spells.
  8. Just thought I'd ask before I start putting it together myself, has anyone put together a prefab of the missile weapons found in FH, similar to the one found in the Free Stuff area for melee weapons? If so, I'd love to get my grubby mitts on it and save myself a half hour tommorow evening.
  9. Re: Sectional Defences Really? Bronze you say. Have a source/link? I'd love to see one. I was under the impression that the Inca (and other pre-columbian peoples in the new world) had no knowledge of forging metals, and worked only with beaten copper and gold. And my memories of geology spur me on to say that I don't recall any signifigant sources of Tin in the Incan area. Nevermind, it's in Bolivia.
  10. Re: Feats Galore Isn't it wonderful how quick and (usually) easy it is to convert things to Hero? Great Job, Mayapuppies!
  11. Re: Parry into others? Sadly, the only book-legal attack is with a triggered KA. I'd use the Follow-Through attack talent from FH and change the trigger to "When I Successfully Block an Attack"
  12. Re: The Night of the 1001 Character Pics… Yeah...but I only started last year

  14. Re: The Night of the 1001 Character Pics… Hmmm.... Photoshop documents won't show in my browser, and since it doesn't recognize them as a picture I can't save as. Anyone know how I can see them?
  15. Re: Magic Missiles Its a +1 advantage that is applied when an attack with area of effect, NND, AVLD (either naturally or because its an adjustment/sense affecting power), Explosion, BOECV (either naturally or because its a mental power), or anything else the GM decides is incredibly effective with autofire. On page 252 of ReFred, under AutoFire.
  16. Re: The Night of the 1001 Character Pics… Thank you. I will add these to the 1.5 gigs of character pics I allready have.
  17. Re: Adjusting Costs When STR is 2 points Like you said, STR is 5 points for damage and 5 points for everthing else. So while you might consider raising the price of Martial Damage Classes to 6-8 or so, I don't think the maneuvers or their costs should be affected. After all, +10 STR only to disarm can, obviously, only be used to disarm an opponent, not for anything else.
  18. Re: Advanced energy sources: Some thought and pretty big numbers.
  19. Re: Advanced energy sources: Some thought and pretty big numbers. A point I'd like to make about hydrogen fuel, which could be expanded to antimatter and other 'Energy-Storage' fuels. While these types of fuels are/would be inefficient, the purpose of them isn't to be a 100% efficient fuel. That would be a nice goal, but all of our current fuels depend on resources that may/will eventually be depleted - the isotopes required for fission and fusion are finite in availability just as fossil fuels are. Thats where artificially created fuels (such as hydrogen, ethenol and possibly antimatter) come in. The only energy sources (that I know of) which we can use for 'free' and not have to worry about using up or running out (at least not within our species expected lifespan) are solar, wind, and hydro- generated electricity. Hydrogen and similar fuels are not meant to power everything, just our cars (and maybe other vehicles). Since cars can't be very efficiently fitted with solar panels, wind turbines, or sails, its nice to have an easily portable, highly- concentrated fuel source that we can pump into it - like gasoline. The trick is where we get this from. Gasoline is refined from fossil fuels, which will eventually run out, and has nasty side effects - namely pollution. So while hydrogen fuel takes more energy to produce that it yields, it has the benefit that it can be used in things that the hippy energy sources (sun, wind, and water) can't effectivly power. If fossil-fueled power plants are used to produce hydrogen fuel, then yes, it is a pointless endevor. If the energy to produce it is taken from an effectivly endless and harmless source, then what does it matter if it's not efficient? So my basic point is that while artificially created fuels may not be able to produce net gain of energy, they have two advantages that make this somewhat meaningless: We can use energy from a renewable source to create them, and they can be taken with us - defeating the main drawback (as I see things) of the renewable energy sources I know of - Solar, Hydro-, and Wind.
