  1. Re: City of Heroes Power Builds Recall Friend/Foe should be fairly easy. Buy Teleport with "+1 Usable as an attack", and you have a fair chunk of it. IIRC, you have to buy Ranged as well. Clear Mind would be probably a Mental Defence, Useable on Other, possibly with extra targets if you wanted it to be more than one person at a time. After all, the CoH effect is basically to make you more resistent to sleep, holds, etc - basically mental attacks. Recovery Aura and Regeneration Aura are a little tricker. Since both speed up healing or endurance recovery, I suspect the best way is Aid (END or Stun, depending on power), with Area of Effect (radius, selective), Only to restore starting values. With Aid, however, the points would eventually fade, so Healing, AoE (radius, selective) is probably better.
  2. Re: Presence in your campaign Example: final battle in the campaign's season #1. It's us vs. Black Paladin, and the media is everywhere - which means lots of potential hostages and innocent bystanders. Bloodclaw, a cybernetic tiger humanoid leaps into the middle of the press corps, roaring at the top of his lungs and teraring apart a tripod-mounted camera. Next phase, when their action comes up, the entire press corps goes running away from Bloodclaw (and, coincidentally, Black Paladin). It was one of those "We'll deal with the bad PR after the battle - if we survive" moments.
  3. Re: Beastly Distinctive Features Yeah, I suppose I should have added, in my above examples, that I would expect to see some Psych Lim which explains and reinforces the DF: clothing. If the character in your cheddar example has the Psych Lim: Racism or something, then, while they may throw out the hats, they simply start wearing racist T-shirts, or slapping racist bumper stickers on their car. The DF has changed, but it still present - and obvious.

  5. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game
  6. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Well, if you all have been playing for over a year, the CoV beta is due to that, not the pre-order disc. As I understand it, everyone who has been playing for the requisite year got tossed into a pool, and then some number was randomly selected for beta testing. Hopefully, they draw from the pool again in the next week or so - CoV looks kewl. If not, I can have fun levelling up my new archer and sonic characters, or really enjoying solo play with my 'troller.
  7. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game If the beta is on the pre-order disc, they hid it awfully darned well. I have my pre-order disc, but don't have access to CoV beta. It does have a code on it, which you can use to ammend your account, and presumably that will allow you to unlock the beta when they add the pre-order people to the beta pool. I'll probably get my 1 year + beta invite 2-3 days after they unlock beta for CoV pre-orders. *shrug* I just want to test out the various ATs and powers, plus make all the kewl costumes. That way, when CoV is out, I don't have to try and figure out what I want by making a series of disposable villains.
  8. Re: Hand Attacks Question Okay. this leads to Q2: Captain Brick again is allowed to have naked power modifiers in the MP (as per several examples from Ultimate Brick). Could I link the HA 4d6 Double KB to a Double KB naked modifier for the Strength (put in the MP)? I'd have to use both together, and I probably couldn't use the full strength (MP isn't big enough), but it should give me more than 8d6 of double KB. (I've never used linke powers before, and don't have my copy of the 5th ed on me to check on this)
  9. Re: Hand Attacks Question Rather than start a new thread, I'll piggyback with an HA question of my own: I have a character, let's call him Captain Brick. Captain Brick has a 60 Str, and does 12d6 with an average punch. He has a multipower, however, for several brick tricks and attacks. Among them is a HtH attack, 4d6 with the Double Knockback advantage. When he hits a target with this attack, which of these is correct: 1) Target takes normal knockback from the base 12d6 plus double knockback from the 4d6 HA 2) Target takes double knockback from the entire 16d6 3) Neither of the above - this is an illegal build.
  10. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game That seems to be a common problem whenever a new installment goes live. Eventually, they put out some small patches that fix it, but it really is a PITA for a few days. It isn't helped by everyone making new toons with archery, sonic, etc and flooding into Atlas and Gal City. I won't be able to play for a few days, so hopefully it will be better when I get to log in again.
  11. Re: Black box recorder THat's a good take on it. I might go with that, if I ever get around to it. (I spent my last XP on improving a couple things in the offensive multipower instead.)
  12. Re: Black box recorder I thought it, half typed it out, and decided not too. It was danged tempting though, wasn't it?
  13. Re: Overwhelming PRE attacks Actually, given the powers and the fluff text, it would be more than possible for Takofanes or the Crowns to surface once again. The crowns might be worn by new people, but they could show up again.
  14. Re: Black box recorder Actually, they do sometimes get lost or destroyed - that's why planes have more than one. IIRC, there are always at least two - one in the nose, one in the tail, just in case one doesn't make it. I could redo it as a computer. It means not getting it for a much longer time though.
  15. Re: Does anyone know a good site on creating minitures... Reaper also sells several varieties of armatures ("blanks") - starter (basic human form), advanced (stick figures) and heroic (more muscular human), in addition to several varieites of "green stuff" (it comes in other colors, but still get's called green stuff most of the time, I believe).
  16. Re: THE ULTIMATE METAMORPH -- What Do *You* Want To See? Are you going to including mechanical metamorphs? (Not just transformer-style robots, but extendable cyberarms, etc). It's admittedly less of an AT than the others, but there is some precedent.
  17. Re: WWYCD: Don't Say You Didn't Warn You Grizzly - pulls the black box recorder of the suit and downloads all the collected data therein. Ditto for the other suit devices (voice-activated recorder for notes, etc) If ***** is going to be such a problem, then Grizzly is certainly going have been logging notes and observations beyond those taken by the recorder. Grizzly then starts salvaging the armor - the future armor certainly contains many of the enhancements currently in the design stages, and probably more besides.
  18. Re: How Do the Friction Manipulation Entangles Work?
  19. Re: Black box recorder That's actually what I was thinking. The IIF is because you would have to hunt to find it - but a good ambush that strikes him down while alone on patrol could have Viper (or anyone else) downloading the black box and the technical details of the armor, and then dumping him (sans black box) in the city somewhere. He wakes up, remembers the ambush, and notes that the black box is missing. Or, worse, they edit the black box and place the blame on someone else. (They won't learn his secret ID - he has a public one, but they could learn plenty about the base operations, passwords, etc. It may not get stolen often, but it could be a major pain in the rear when it does.)
  20. At some point, I plan on adding a "black box" recorder to my character's powered armor. While the armor is build on the OIHID (since he will usually, but not always, have it), I was thinking of this for the black box: Eidetic memory, IIF, Independent (total cost, 1 pt) Would this be a good way to simulate it?
  21. Re: Overwhelming PRE attacks Perhaps a combination of changes? The Change Environment, Neg Skill Levels, and a high PRE (only for PRE attacks vs a single target, only to inspire fear). That way, everyone around you is a little creeped out, people fighting you are a little offbalance, and if you focus on some poor goon, you can really get him to whimper in fear.
  22. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Thank you. I'd forgotten the exact title and the author - it's kinda hard to hunt down favorite childhood books when you're looking for "a book with masters, and tripods, and mountains. . . but I don't recall the title, or the author." Too many people kept referring me to War of the Worlds.
  23. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it...
  24. Re: Overwhelming PRE attacks I know that Batman scares the bejeezus out of people (so does Spidey) - and most of the general populace doesn't care for them (at least, not in the same way that they feel for Superman or the Fantastic Four). All of the heroes mentioned have fairly high PRE, but it manifests in different ways. Superman - you know that he's an overgrown Boy Scout. Uberpowerful, but he's not going to kill you if you surrender. He can fight a bad guy and demolish half of Metropolis, and people just shrug it off. Batman - he probably won't kill you, but he can and will inflict permanent, crippling injuries, and you just know that someday, he's going to decide that the "kid gloves" method he has been using until now isn't working, and he's going to look at more permanent solutions. So, Batman gets hasseled by the cops (some, not all of course), the public thinks he's creepy and wrong, etc. Ditto for FF and Spidey. Since Dead Head has a high PRE, and it's based on Fear, plus the Distinctive Features and the low COM, it means that yes, bad guys will surrender - but that cops, the public, etc all won't like him. There will be calls for "someone to come rid the fair city of the monstrous menace that lurks within, this ghoulish vigilante who tortures his victims", etc. Random heroes might buy this, villains look at Dead Head as a possible recruit, bystanders start a class-action suit for emotional suffering (after all, everyone in the area can be effected by a PRE attack - and bystanders really aren't on your side, even as a hero) etc. (You do have a negative rep as creepy, undead superhero, right? Odds are good you're going to have the rep anyway, might as well gets the points for it.)
