  1. I've been toying with an idea for a game, and though I'd see if anyone would be interested in playing. If so I'd probably run it on HeroCentral. My plan was to set the game in the Marvel universe, circa 2 generations in the future (45-65 years roughly). The game would be based on the idea that the Avengers are reforming after years of absence. Players would play characters who have ties to the original Avengers in some way or another. You could play children, grandchildren, distant relations, or folks who where just inspired by one of the original Avengers. If you want to use one of the current names (Captain America, etc) thats cool, or you could go with an a name that ties into it somewhat (Patriot for Captain America for example) As for the history of the 'future' Marvel U, that will partly depend on the players. I plan on letting the players come up with whatever they like for their background, then using that to shape the world. for instance, if you wanted to play Tony Stark's godson and heir to Stark Enterprises and the Iron Man name, you'ed decide what happened to Tony, and then I'd create the campaign world around your ideas. Or say you wanted to play Captain America's granddaughter, you'ed tell me what Steve did for the next 40-60 years, and what he's doing now. I'll work with the players on the background stuff, and players can always chat with each other to interweave things, but in my experience it makes things start smoother, as this way the players actually have a hand in deciding how the world they play in is made. I think the timeframe allows for some freedom in making what you want to make, but also gives us some history to draw from when we want to. I'll say right now I'm not a huge Avengers expert, I plan on using some of the cool stuff from their history, but I'm not gonna worry about the tiny details, as I'm more worried about fun:). For the characters, pretty much anything goes as long as they are tied to an Avenger in some way. Personally I think we should have ties to the big Avengers, but if people prefer to play with more obscure ideas thats cool. Also, I'm not concerned with you matching up to the character powerset wise, either way. If you want to play a Cap who's got similiar powers to the current one, thats fine. Or if your Cap is a flying energy blaster, thats groozy too, just so long as they have some kind of relationship with the name. Not set points yet, but I figure around 500. This lets you make a character how you want them to be, and allows them to legitimately call themselves the Avengers, but still leaves room to grow. So, anyone interested? I'm looking for somewhere between 4-6 players, might go 7 if a lot of people want to play.
  2. Re: DC's Best Martial Artist If it was sarcasm he'd best watch out, cause delivery that dry is libel to catch fire at the slighest spark.
  3. Re: Marvel's Best Martial Artists Not to knowledgable about Marvel, but going by what I've seen. 1. Shang Chi 2. Stick 3. Iron Fist 4. Captain America 5. Daredevil 6. Black Panther 7. Elektra 8. Batroc 9. Bullseye 10. Wolverine
  4. Re: DC's Best Martial Artist After reading interviews with her creator Kelley Puckett, I'm fairly sure thats how he invisioned her. When the gist of the interview was "I made this girl to kick everyones ***. Doesn't matter who it is, she can kick their ***." then you have to wonder. Later writers did do some good stuff with her though, so I won't complain much.
  5. Re: Mjolnir I fairly sure they own all the right, and if they don't Bungee does. MS owns the hell outta Bungie, so all is well. As for the movie, Microsoft actually hired Alex Garland (who wrote 28 Days Later) to write the script before there was even a deal. They then took this finished script and a couple pages of conditions (namely that Bungee Studios has final say on what can and can not be in the movie) and shopped it around to every major studio, seeing who offered the best deal. So while MS has done some crap, they seem to be saying "This movies gonna get dsone right, or not at all." And since Halo 2 hold the single day record for most money made (it made more its first day than Spider-Man 2, the movie) it think its a smart move.
  6. Re: DC's Best Martial Artist I'd agree with that. As this scan shows, Diana trains constantly, and she's referred to have knowledge of every know martial art, from Earth all the way to New Genesis.
  7. Re: Mjolnir Intersting discussion, but I have point to address that someone made a few pages back. The whole "Superman just stands there and lets people hit him' thing. The fact is, yes, Superman does just stand there and let people hit him, but he's said in a few comics why he does that. Remember, Thor is a warrior god who loves a good fight. Superman is, at heart, a Kansas farmboy who would prefer not to hurt anyone. Thats why, whenever he encounters someone he doesn't know anything about, he generally lets them take the first shot, and he takes that shot square in the chest. This lets him gauge just how powerful the person he's facing is, so he has at least some idea of how much whammy he can let loose with and not splaterize people. Note this is only when he deals with someone knew. He's not gonna stand there and let Metallo have a free shot, cause he knows how much that thing can dish out and take. Now granted this ain't the best plan in the world, but it usually works out fine cause most folks best shot bounces off Clark's chest like popcorn, but there's times (like Thor for instance) where that first shot is a doozy.
  8. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever As Kurt buts it, if you cast a 'turn into a bunny' spell on Superman, he would turn into a bunny like anyone else. If you stab him wityh a knife enchanted to cut anything, it'll cut Superman like anyone else. Thor has some resistance to magic so it might not work on him, don't think the Hulk does though, so it should work on Hulk just like Superman or anyone else.
  9. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Yep. I know John Byrne is in the same camp as Kurt on the issue, where as Dan Jurgens disagrees.
  10. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Thats pretty much it. Superman in the 60's and 70's was invulnerable. Full stop. He was pretty much immune to damage. The only things that could effect him where kryptonite, red solar rays, and magic. Current Superman isn't invulnerable, just really, really tough, but magic effects him the same way it would anyone else.
  11. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever He never says Thor hits harder with his fists, he in fact states the very opposite. And he wasn't downplaying Mjolnir, he was saying that while it packs a lot of magic, that doesn't really effect Superman, or Hulk or Gladiator for that matter. If you replaced Mjolnir with an adamantium hammer of the same size, Thor would do the same amount of damage to Superman, Hulk and Gladiator as he does with Mjolnir.
  12. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Though through long study we have determined that Kurt, much like Candyman or Beetlejuice, can often times be summoned by speaking his name 3 times.
  13. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Let me see if I can find the thread where it happened. Here we go. link Mr Busiek's first post is at the bottom of the page, and he debates the point for a few pages.
  14. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever You've never argued this stuff with Kurt Busiek.* Trust me, some of them do consider the crazy **** we do. (seriously, on that other board, some comic book writers are members, and Mr Busiek pops in from time to time. My fondest memory was arguing Superman vs Thor and having Kurt Busiek pop up on my side:) I was like "Dude! Score!" Heck, Dan Scott recently showed up to defend Squirrel Girl, and Gail Simone is a regular poster, she even has her own section.)
  15. Re: What was your first character like? First RPG character ever was from Deadlands. Texas Ranger Campbell. (he had a firdst name, but no one ever used it.) Fought in the Civil War, but when all the dead bodies at Gettysburg started getting back up:eek: , he went home and joined the Rangers, who where the Confederacy's version of the FBI. They where to search out all the weird crap going on, and kill the hell out of it all while not letting Joe Q Public no what was going on. Died the first time sacrificing himself so that an evil preacher got nailed by a heavenly bolt o lightning. Ended up coming back from the dead with a demon possesing him, but he had enough will to fight off the demon and take control of his body*. Coninued fighting evil sons o *****es for many years before coming face to face with the Reckoners themselves, the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He was last seen standing face to face with Death himself, flipping him the bird. *note, this kinda stuff is not all that uncommon for Deadlands:)
  16. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever It was simply, who would win in a fight, Robin from the Teen Titans cartoon, or Batman from the Justice League cartoon. (I told you discussion this was nothing for me on the geeky scale) my position was that Robin would win a majority, say 7 out of 10, due to better physical stats and punching power making up for any edge in skill Batman might have, and Robin having enough gear to counter Batman's usual toys.
  17. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Let me put how I think things should go in Hero terms, since it has a good beat and you can dance to it. (that the below is all IMO should go without saying) Spidey has a 35 Str, with some extra Str bought as a Super Push (req Ego roll, all that jazz), Only for lifting, as he pretty much uses it for the classic "I have to lift this heavy thing, Aunt May/Mary Jane/the Milkman's life depends on it." With his Spidey-fu (ie his own personal fighting style, which I would buy as a few MA manuevers and some skill levels) and with pushing he can top out at about 14-5 dice, though he usually pulls his punch so as to not cripple folks. That averages about 49-53 Stun. Now, I would give Thor a 60 PD (plus some DR, but thats beside the point), so therefor Firelord would have about the same PD, plus whatever defences he has in that big honkin Cosmic Multipower he has. So with that in mind, Spidey's best punch, even a really good roll, shouldn't hurt Firelord at all.
  18. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Yes. Thor Stunned him once, out of how many blows? Saying it's a regular thing is a bit much.
  19. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Yes I did. Question: Did Pete hit him 4 times? Answer: It doesn't matter. The number of times Pete hit him has no bearing.
  20. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever I think the correct question is, does Thor have Hulk level Str. And my answer is 'yes, usually'
