  1. As an OU fan I strongly object to any change to the Texas mascot. Our ritualistic consumption of the opposition food animal is a key element in our rivalry. One of the very few things Texas has going for them is their mascot is delicious.
  2. In before "disinterested" excuses. Always hate to see the horns win anything, now the Internet will teem with their raucous mating cries of "we are back" and "Wait until next year". That said, the Sugar Bowl was a fun game to watch. And the fan chants at the end, while classless, were both inevitable and hilarious. I mean, it's not as good as beating Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, but that's a quality win. So "good job" and "bless your hearts". (That's about as good as they'd ever be likely to get from me)
  3. I agree with the sentiment. But I can't ever pull for Texas.
  4. Houston fired Major Applewhite, allegedly offering $4M annually for DANA HOLGERSON. I cannot believe that, it burns to think about. Well, best of luck to them. WVU and Houston alike.
  5. See also: Oklahoma in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. Florida State and Nebraska in the 90s. Texas, U$C, and Oklahoma in the early 2000s. Top recruits always seek out top schools. Always. It'll change. This cycle continues every 8-10 years, often with a change in coach. Check out Alabama in the Mike Shula era. Twice it was #4 over #1.
  6. I actually don't know what the heck you two are talking about. Math doesn't support that the underdog doesn't ever win in the CFP semifinals. The lower ranked team is 3-7 in the past 5 years (including this one, where neither lower ranked team won, just the prior 4 matchups is 3-5). So the lower ranked opponent has a 30% chance of winning based on historic performance in the semifinals. One might argue that this demonstrates the rankings appear to accurately determine the more talented team. Now the CFP championship game is another matter, with the lower ranked team winning 3 times to 1 the past 4 years. Just something to consider. You can't win if you aren't in it, unless you are UCF.
  7. Final was unsurprising but at least the offense gave them a game of it the last couple quarters. If they could've gotten a stop or two it might have gone another way. Until we get a better defense, this is to be expected. 1st ranked offense, 101st ranked defense. But Murray was amazing to watch. And I appreciate the season he had, even with this ending. Well, that's it for college football this year. Happy New Year's to all, and looking forward to Spring Ball and 2019.
  8. Basically, I'm crossing my fingers tonight. Would be thrilled if OU pulls this off. Just going to appreciate the season that led to this evening. Second Heisman in a row, 4th Consecutive conference championship, beating Texas in the conference title game. Been a good year, really. Hard to criticise, however tonight turns out. But damn, I want to win an 8th undisputed national championship. Let's do this.
  9. This year, it could go either way. Score a hundred, give up a hundred, hard to say which will happen first. Teams these days are actually encouraged by the media to keep it close. When OU hung 77-0 on TAMU, Bob Stoops looked bewildered. Was running it up the middle every play and still scoring. They even kept the clock running continuously to speed it up (by mutual consent). Didn't seem to matter. And the press conference was all about his poor sportsmanship. Thought he'd blow a gasket. "What do you want me to do, take a knee on every play?" Things can get out of hand in college football, they're still very young guys. Emotion is a huge part of the game. One or two bad plays can snowball out of control. Edit: oh, and I'm rooting for Oklahoma. And Note Dame, because it'll be more fun to beat them in the title game. I do not have high hopes for those outcomes, but you never know. OU has beaten Alabama before when they weren't supposed to. Not likely to be intimidated by the name, reputation, or uniform. We will see how it goes.
  10. "Alright, listen up guys. 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring — except for the four @#×holes coming in the rear in standard two-by-two cover formation."
  11. I heard Major Applewhite got demoted to Captain.
  12. Yeah, 507 rushing yards. Tied the largest bowl margin of victory in history. Yikes
  13. Damn Army. I retract my earlier implied criticism and scorn following the near loss of my Sooners in overtime. You scary. 11-2, best season in school history. Absolutely rolled your bowl opponent (and Navy - but that's only really important to Army). Most disciplined, ball controlling, triple option running team I've seen in years. Respect.
  14. I think that's extremely unlikely due to the Golden Rule. "He who has the gold, makes the rules"
  15. I think it's a lot more complicated than that. There are stark differences in access, influence, and ability to inform government as you move from local to state to federal. The further from the people you get, the less of all of those there is. It's unfortunate, but I see significant evidence of democratic process locally. A bit at the State level. And very little direct influence nationally. I'm not sure if that's a bug or a feature, but I don't like it.
  16. Yeah, we will have to see about that. Like when the 9th circuit rules on issues for the other side of the aisle, it's always going to be appealed. And Roberts already lined up on the other side of this one. Not sure what will happen, but this isn't the end of the road on this issue.
  17. I missed this earlier. Varies by state is the answer. https://www.childwelfare.gov/topics/systemwide/laws-policies/statutes/report/ For Ohio:
  18. "I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it. The last time you shut it down, it didn't work. I will take the mantle of shutting down." What an idiot.
