  1. Final was 49-31 OU. No surprises really, Jalen Hurts is a beast of a QB. Defense is much improved but not world beaters. OU will contend for a playoff spot and the Conference Championship again this year.
  2. Going to call my score on this first game. OU wins but does not cover, takes a couple games for the offense to find it's stride, defense better than last year but not good yet. 42-28 OU
  3. My game isn't until tomorrow, but the best game of the weekend might have to be UNC vs. Sakerlina. Those two coaches have seen one another before, heh. That was pretty cool, really.
  4. 100% this. I'm not particularly an Andrew Luck fan, nor am I a hater. Their personnel and rehab management around him are criminal.
  5. Feeling pretty good about the OU-UCLA game after the mighty Bearcats beat the Bruins. I am going to go this year with my father in law, the first OU game I've attended in person since 2005. We will see how I feel after OU plays Houston on Sunday.
  6. Young Justice: Season 3. Really entertaining, cannot wait for season 4.
  7. Damn. Young Justice season 3 was really quite good. Just finished it.
  8. Better than what we've got, no question. I'll go with essentially whomever is run this year in opposition to the current incumbent, barring some dramatic change in who that candidate is. But no chance at all that I would lower myself to voting for Donald Trump after his performance this past several years. It has been an unmitigated disaster.
  9. This is inaccurate as written. Restricting individual access to firearms is an established and effective deterrent to suicide, it's one of the reasons for the legal standards around firearm access in 5150 code. If you are indicating that suicide rates are not affected by availability of firearms in society, which I gather by the context of the rest of this, that's entirely possible. I don't have expertise in that area. I found your list of reasoning around your position thoughtful and articulate, and while I do not reach the same conclusions ("rational minds may differ") I appreciate your explanation.
  10. The team apparently loves that he did this. There's a really great back and forth between the Indians and NFL Twitter accounts. Best part is that Cowherd actually basically said exactly what they were joking he'd say. And then took a shot at the Indians. And a bunch of shots at Mayfield and Cleveland. What a clown. http://amp.awfulannouncing.com/fox/indians-prediction-baker-mayfield-colin-cowherd.html If the Browns ever achieve a modicum of success with Mayfield, the city might explode from joy.
  11. I knew this. And that nationally white men over 40 are disproportionately the highest category of suicide completion. Colorado did a really interesting prevention project related to this "man therapy" (developed by a female psychologist and a PR firm). Rates are at the highest point in my lifetime. It's a serious problem. CDC recognizes it as a crisis.
  12. If he has any interested family members, the prison and State are extremely liable in this incident. They did not follow their own protocol by the article I cited, which is simply idiotic in a normal profile case. In this one it's unconscionable. Someone needs to be fired, or possibly face charges if they falsified records to cover themselves. This should not be a feature in our criminal justice system.
  13. That's correct, he had been on watch and then was released. And his cell mate apparently moved out. I don't think that looks better, personally. I just wrapped up a job where I was responsible for suicide watch and safety cell checks, definitely clear that it's possible to end your life even on an active watch. This sets a new level for incompetence however. https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/08/11/us/jeffrey-epstein-sunday/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F
  14. The Jeffrey Epstein case and subsequent suicide is a really good example of the sort of distasteful and complex story which continues to divide the nation. Epstein appears to be a complete scumbag. His clientele are the ultra rich and elite, including royalty, celebrities and political figures. Both political parties are busy slinging mud at one another and loudly proclaiming their own members innocence (happily ignoring photos, testimony and other evidence of past associations). It's not in my opinion a Democrat vs. Republican issue, it's a power elite vs. the rest of us issue. Then Epstein commits suicide. On a second attempt. In federal custody. On suicide watch. Im a rational human being, but that makes me think things like: "he must have shot himself twice in the back of the head" or "if you are surprised Epstein committed suicide, imagine how surprised he was" or "did he throw himself down an elevator shaft into a bunch of bullets?" I can only imagine the play it will get from more emotionally invested conspiracy theorists. And of course this is getting more play in the news as Trump tweets about the Clintons and their alleged role. With dozens of pictures floating around that he himself associated with Epstein, so you've got both Bill Clinton and Donald Trump looking bad, although not accused of any crime. The mud being slung around goes everywhere, sometimes it's not about politics. Other than being about powerful people abusing political and other power to sexually assault children in a systematic way ("allegedly"). It's a dark chapter in a dark era. So ugly. Sometimes I despair.
  15. "It's not who this barista is underneath, but how he makes my latte that defines him."
  16. You sound like Pinker himself, actually. He mentioned being called a Pangloss, and that real challenges remain to be dealt with (citing climate change).
  17. I've posted it before, but here's a bit more good news.
  18. Glad to hear that. I like Mentor, even though he and I never agreed on a damn thing (except enjoying the HERO system). Good guy.
  19. The Boys extremely violent, deviated a bit from the source material but I considered it an improvement. The core themes are very much present. Karl Urban makes a fantastic Billy Butcher, but the Homelander steals the show from my perspective. Super scary.
  20. Yeah, the last several posts literally make me sick to my stomach. Ugh. What happened to my Country? (That's not a sincere question, I've got a pretty solid idea)
  21. Celebrating throwing off the yoke of British colonialism. #feelsgoodman
