  1. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Oh yeah. That one was a fetid little example of comics writing wasn't it. Stupid Uatu, you let Conan kill Earth, now you're out of a job, and probably dead into the bargain.
  2. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever Callisto suffers from the traditional Claremont writing consistency. However, it might be interesting to postulate that her fighting skills are in inverse proportion to her looks. Regular Callisto looked like she was 'rode hard and put away wet' and was a skilled streetfighter. She underestimated Storm in their duel and got shanked for it, though. Later, she got a makeover by Masque and became drop dead supermodel gorgeous. At this point she mysteriously couldn't fight her way out of a paper bag and had to be saved from street punks by the then-amnesiac Colossus who (having also forgotten his powers) whaled on them with a baseball bat or some such. She also had her eye restored by Masque in the process. Later, after Claremont's return to the world of X, she turns up having gotten her arms replaced by tentacles again courtesy of Masque. At this point, she is now apparently death on two legs and can force Juggernaught to job to her. Why she has chosen to not have her eye restored again is beyond me. Of couse, you can make all sorts of assumptiona about the character, such as her odd fondness for Professor Xavier. She has repeatedly gone out of her way to assist him, such as saving his life when he was beaten for being a mutie back in like Uncanny #192-193. Then there is her more recent assistance in Genosha in the third Excaliber series. Maybe she digs bald guys or something. Who can say, really.
  3. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever No. The symbiote was removed in #258. For a time afterwards, Spidey wore a normal fabric version of his black outfit before once again returning to his standard gear.
  4. Re: What does a SuperTeam need? I just wanna go on record as not wanting to play either the brick OR the leader. If I am forced to play leader, I'm holding my breath til I turn blue.

  6. Re: Favorite Marvel 'What If?' It's funny. I like Daredevil, but his comic is often completely horrible. Poor guy, I still remember how long Inferno lasted for him.
  7. Re: 50's comic-book heroes Hmm, does anyone here know if this is based on the actual month he appeared or is this a case of going by the cover date? They used to be like 3 months ahead of the actual month they appeared in to allow longer life on the comic racks.
  8. Re: 50's comic-book heroes Don't look too deep, lest the Eye of L'fylde cast its gaze upon you. http://members.aol.com/chrisv82/america.htm
  9. Re: Favorite Marvel 'What If?' What if... I liked too many of them to choose. Lets go with just a few. Dr Strange was the disciple of Dormammu Baron Mordo became Sorcerer Supreme Spider-man joined the Fantastic Four Korvac killed the Avengers Daredevil was the disciple of Dr Strange The whole Time-quake 5 parter Namor joined the FF #105 -Introducing Spider-Girl, I really liked the M2 line for some reason #125 -what if the heroes never returned from the Secret Wars 'cause those kids were pretty cool characters, esp. how Cap's daughter can lift Thor's hammer while his own son can't.
  10. Re: Worst comic book superfight ever I'm gonna weigh in with Uncanny X-men #213, where Sabretooth grabs rogue by the back of the head and smashes her face first through a big ol' boulder. I remember being angry with that one back as a teenager and it tastes just as rancid now as it did fresh off the shelf. I just refuse to beileve Sabretooth is strong enough to do that and still loses to Wolverine. After all, he could just swat the runt with an SUV or some such if he can pull stunts like that.

  14. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Farm on the Freeway by Jethro Tull next up is Van Go's Hoodlum Jacket
  15. Re: Professor X vs Hector Hammond True, Marvel telepaths have a lot more skill in mental combat, as there's considerably more of them to butt "heads" with. Cabeza-a-cabeza combat, if you will. (admittedly, my Spanish is way rusty)
  16. Re: Professor X vs Hector Hammond Y'know, I really wanna weigh in on this one but despite knbowing what Hammond's powers are, I find I can't be certain he actually has any of them. For example, he's supposed to have a degree of indestructibility gained when he upped his power level at the cost of his mobility. Does he still have it? He's telekinetic, telepathic and able to manipulate minds but does he always have his TK or is it as off and on as the Martian Manhunter's Martian Vision. After all, his astral form was once whupped by Dr Martin Stein in astral combat in the JLA comic but Stein is no psionic powerhouse. Dr. Stein is, just in case you guys don't know, a former part of the Ronnie Raymond-era Firestorm. He played 'floating head who nags and gives tech support' for the high school student with nuclear powers. He's currently the Fire Elemental of Earth and has just reappeared in Infinite Crisis #3 where he's been in deep space exploring. Since Hammond's appeared so seldom compared to Professor X, he's got far less consistency in his displays of power. I do think he's still a potent telepath with a range that's at least interplanetary but anything else may be up for grabs, power-wise.
  17. Re: Simplification of Combat No kidding. It's always amusing to me just how much can be solved in-game by just smacking the opponent.
  18. Re: sitting I would if it was Professor X. Telepaths aren't to be trusted.
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Well, it was Kid Dynamo by the Buggles when I started typing and now it's I'm Becoming You by the Vandals.
  20. Re: Simplification of Combat So, I take it you don't wanna play the Amber RPG?
  21. Re: Death Rays Ah, man. I love a good deathray. These all look tasty.
