  2. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Well yeah. Didn't you know that the ancient Japanese were in charge of the pyramid construction?
  3. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER So to contribute to the kick, I can now read and write hiragana. And a huge thanks to La Rose for given me tons of help in my learning process. I'm almost finished with the first unit of Pimsleur's Japanese courses. After that there are two more, but I'm going to switch to RosettaStone, and do the first unit so amp up my vocabulary and focus more on the writing aspects. If I stay on track, I'll be finished with all the commercial language learning programs by the end of this year. And the plan is to make it to Japan for a real vacation either next year or the year after. And of course start speaking to my Japanese coworkers using only Japanese. I figure after couple more years of doing that, I should be pretty fluent. Then I can start learning another language. My company is very multi-ethnic and we have Spanish, Filipino, and Russian speakers.
  4. Re: "Ookla, Ariel, we ride!" - Anyone ever written up character sheets for Thundarr? Time to practice my thread necromancy... Ahem, you may all be interested in this little ditty a friend of mine linked me to: http://www.savageafterworld.com/2012/03/world-of-thundarr-barbarian-sourcebook.html It isn't for Hero per se, but it sure seems like the perfect source book.
  5. Re: "Neat" Pictures Seeing this pictures reminds me that I should probably ask here if anyone has a good angled view of a city from above. I've gone to SF a few times to try to get a pic, but it is usually on the weekend, and I never manage to be able to find a good spot. I want to put together a tutorial on how to make proper tilt-shift photos using Photoshop without using a tilt-shift lens. The standard method of using a gradient just doesn't match the tilt-shift lens effect well enough. There is a better way using a depth of field approach. I made a tutorial a while ago, but the picture I used wasn't creative commons, so I couldn't publish it like I wanted to. If anyone has such a picture, or pictures, that I could freely use, I would be happy to give you credit for the pic. You can send it to me, or post it here, whichever you prefer. Ternaugh's picture is in the right vein of what I'm looking for, but I need one that is angled down a bit more to really capture the depth, and to have something interest to focus on, literally.
  6. Re: "Neat" Pictures Repped for the Minecraft reference.
  7. Re: "Neat" Pictures You would have to be an Avatar and Legend of Korra fan to understand it.
  8. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I look forward to the day that the US finally moves to the metric system. It's sad really because it is taught throughout elementary school, but the commercial US refuses to adopt it as the standard, so it is easily forgotten.
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Why? Why? Why? Just because you can, doesn't mean you should:

  12. Re: "Neat" Pictures This is more true than most people realize. However, there are some whose disabilities cause certain mental hardships that they just have a hard time dealing with even with the support of those around them. Usually it results in them hurting themselves, but there are times when it hurts others. However, as you point out, it is typically when they are left to their own devices for too long. That could be as short as just a few minutes.
  13. Re: "Neat" Pictures Yeah, my wife has told me that there are both good and bad autistic kids, just like the rest of humanity really. Thankfully, she doesn't work in a public school, but rather a school specifically for special needs kids. So, she has tons of support and the school is super supportive of both the students and their families.
  14. Re: "Neat" Pictures I wish I could rep you, but I have to spread it around, yada yada. Anyway, my wife is a special needs teacher. My sister-in-law is as well, and she has an autistic son. Some good friends of ours have an autistic daughter. So, I'm very much aware of autism, and its many difficulties. I love hearing stories like this especially when they involve an adult treating an autistic child like any other child instead of shunning them. Thank you for this great story.
  15. Re: Creepy Pics. Because I didn't see it right away... It wasn't your typical photobomb.
  16. Re: "Neat" Pictures Fixed that for you.
