  1. So in looking over Ace...

I suggest we name all the multipower slots according to Baseball Lingo.  So Slam would be Fastball, Blast could be Meatball, Crash would be Homer, etc...

I can keep going if you like this concept.

Ambassador add Flash defence and other defensive things to their Diplomatic Immunity

Behemoth - Why not give hi  Growth 3 levels? And add a Public ID (due to his size)?

Honey Badger - Like as is.

    Ironmonger - As is

Lightning - Is their "Linked to Combat Running" on the punch an error? The combat running is only a Naked advantage to reduce endurance.  Perhaps the running should be bought outside of the Multipower? The AOE should be selective fire?

Patriot - Add Tactics and Teamwork to skills; KS: Famous battles over the centuries (Culloden, Vimy Ridge, etc)

Specter - Like as is; Perhaps change spelling to Spectre?

Spellbinder - like as is - but a description of side effects is needed

Street Knight - Like as is; perhaps suggest more DC's on Martial Arts with XP?

Toxxyn - Like the name!!  Like the character; perhaps add Unluck 1d6?

    Vulcan - Like as is

    That's the list!!

  2. I seem to have lost the thread of the argument, so this might not mean anything. But if I'm following it correctly then an example of the trickery would be as follows.

Spiderman stands still as the Rhino charges. Spidey leaps out of the way last second, and Rhino hits the fuse box. Rhino is electrocuted to sleep.

But that's the hero outwitting the villain.  Not the GM undermining the players!!

  3. If we're going to do the Viper's Nest scenario, we need the villains.  Now, some in the old 3rd edition scenario are out there in the Enemies books (Pulsar, Armadillo, Cheshire Cat, Howler, Bluejay, Dragonfly, Green Dragon, Ogre) but some I could not find: Icicle, Brick, Shrinker.  And in the 4th edition VIPER book they mention Hammerhead and some others that may be in a new Viper edition or not, I don't know.

Which brings us to VIPER: do we use the straight up VIPER out of the latest edition?  Because we'll have to do some reprints of characters.  We cannot expect people to have all the books just to run this intro.  I really like the 4th edition version but know nothing about later editions.

I have built BRICK for HD6, will post it shortly...

  4. I don't know why its doing that, but all you have to do is delete the ".xml" at the end and it should open.  Have you tried to fire up Hero Designer and open them in that?

I tried that and it wouldn't work, I used my wife's laptop, that is running Win 8.1 and I was able to open Ace... weird!!

  5. I can't open the files.  When I DL to save them they show as Ace.hdc.xml files

I'm on a Mac and don't often DL files, but I can DL from the Downloads section and open in HD the files found there (like Knifepoint)

I'm likely just having a blond moment... (Blond is a state of mind not a hair colour)

Its trying to open the file in MS Word??? and I get an unspecified error... "The XML file Ace.hdc.xml cannot be opened because there is no available data view (XSLT)

  6.

You could probably find something interesting if you looked at graveyards in New Orleans.

Or from the city your running the game in (if modern), plus makes it a little more realistic for the players if they can go to where that funeral home is afterwards and say "I really kicked zombie butt here!!"

  7. Well we're actually using 100 points of Complications in our current game, so I don't think that's a factor. (Heck, one character "stopped counting" at 100, but it we took the way he plays the character and actually gave points for all the Pysch & Social Lims he roleplays, he'd probab;y have closer to 200...but no Vulnerabilities.)

I don't see them as much as I'd like. I think is one place where the "if it's not on the character sheet you can't do it" mentality really holds us back. I try to encourage players when they think of something creative like that, but it's so subjective compared to the rest of the system it's challenging.

Thanks for adding this thought of increasing the points in Complications, hadn't really thought about it to this point.

The current game I've started has 4 players.  They all start off as having up to 75 pts to build their characters.  They all must have some science skills as they work together in a lab.  I'm randomizing the powers they will get (2 of the four players are new to Hero and superpowers in general).

They won't get their first "Super Power" until they reach 20 XP, I give XP for creating a history, providing an image of their toon, background NPC's (thanks for this idea Bolo of Earth) and reports of game events from their characters perspective.  Creative expressions, one of the characters plays a Japanese American girl (Living in Canada) and printed up her notes, which I showed to everyone, cause they were in Japanese script!!  Extra XP for creativity!!  Several of the players have found their "Pad" and copied floor plans and filled their apartments with items.

I have a story arc I'm following and once that arc ends, they can continue with their existing characters or create brand new characters for future games.

  8. Thinking about this some more: it seems like lately I'm seeing weaknesses more often built as Limitations on defenses, rather than Complications per se. Again, not sure how much of this is intentional, and how much of it is just my groups?

I've had a long hiatus from the Hero system and am just getting back into it myself.  Some of the change in Complications is only needing 75 for a 400 pt character so you can get by without using the Vuln/Sus complications.  Whereas back in 4e you needed 100-150 in disads.

I'm curious as to whether other GM's find that their players don't use those options anymore too?

    --------------------

From the number of posts to the contrary I see that most people don't use environmental factors.  I'm thinking about the recent Supergirl adventure against an electrically based opponent (Livewire), she used a water main to douse her and knock her out, I know that its difficult to compare a Show with its Writers to a Game mechanic.

As a player I wouldn't want things always going against me either but every now and again a well placed environmental aspect can add to the game.

  9. I'm hoping for this thread to be something to allow creativity to flow.

I know that Vulnerabilities are options for characters but sometimes you can't think of what a suitable Vulnerability or Susceptibility would be. This is the point of this thread.  To give people some other options when designing their characters.

Some GM's like to add different aspects into their games and may allow a Fire based character to do more damage if they work with another player who has Air based powers, and the added oxygen increases the effectiveness of their powers, or can hinder their powers if the fight is in a hospitable ward or other place that has oxygen in use.

To rephrase my original post and answer one of Lucius' questions above, If a sound based character wanted to take a vulnerability, what would be a good option?

And I may have stumped the palindromedary!  No easy feat!

  10.

If I were rewriting the game I would explore eliminating Dex and Ego and moving their functionality into OCV/DCV and OMCV/DMCV. One to have less stats in the game. Also to give more uses for CV than just hitting and dodging. It would be interesting to see how well it would function and "how it would feel" in play.

But Dex is used in so many skills.  How would you account for that change?

  11. I was wondering if we could start a thread about the above, maybe post things that you use in your games for differnet vulnerabilities.

Do you have a fire character always take extra damage from water attacks even if they don't have the vulnerability/susceptibility? Because its a natural law?

What would you use as a vulnerability for sound based characters (sonics)?

  12. There is a 60 AP limit to the PCs. So giving 15 physical DN and 10 EN means she will ignore most direct damage aimed at her.

She's a bodyguard for a politician, her strength is in the 35 range and she has martial arts, I will run her as is and see how she fares.

    Thanks for the input.

  13. I've been looking in old bookstores for 6E1 & 2.  I found the Original Strike Force book, it cost me $50Can for!!!

Which is really annoying cause I know I own that book and can't for the life of me find it!!

Now that I have it, I'll probably find my original... And with the Kickstarter Book coming I'll also have the PDF version...

I would still like to get the 6E1 & 2 books though....

  14. The way I've thought of her, she just ignores the effects of damage to her person, I haven't actually brought the character into play yet, But hope to in the next few weeks.

Imagine the shock of a hero who fails to protect her from say a gun shot, but she stands up without a mark (except in her clothing).  Her role is still being defined as well, is she heroic? Villainess? or just someone wanting to live their life without getting in on the hero/villain trope..

  15. Hi All

I've created a character that I want to be invulnerable,  I've currently purchased it as -15 DC's Physical Damage Negation and -10 DC's Energy Damage Negation.

In the past I would have used fairly high PD/ED resistant and 75% damage reduction.

    Any thoughts?

with the -15 DC's physical DN, she could fall from a great height and walk away...

I've left her open to mental attacks on purpose.
