  1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the 2017 5.1 mix from the new 50th Anniversary 6 disc set.
  2. My recorder burped and didn't record one of the Flash episodes about two or three back. In the old days, I would have subjected myself to the terrible CW player to see it, but I found that it just wasn't that important to me. I've got about 4 episodes of Arrow on the recorder box, and I just don't have any real desire to play them. Part of it is that my television viewing habits have changed greatly over the last few years. I canceled my cable TV subscription a few years ago, and moved pretty much exclusively to streaming through Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. I'm finding that I can't tolerate the padding that weekly broadcast series add, and I certainly favor being able to watch the next episode right away*. Heck, the last episode of Flash really should have been about 10 minutes long (minus all of the padding), and attached to the previous week's episode. If it were a Netflix series, it would have been. It's really what was so bad about Legends of Tomorrow season 1. There was enough stuff for maybe 6 episodes, but they stretched it out to 16.
  3. "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" by Transatlantic. MediaMonkey is on auto-DJ mode.
  4. Paramount's plans back in the 1970s was to launch a fourth network (Paramount Television Service, or PTVS) with Star Trek: Phase II. That network ultimately never came to fruition, and the work done for the series was (mostly) converted into Star Trek: The Motion Picture. As you mentioned, UPN ultimately launched with Voyager as its "flagship", and it was one of the more successful shows on the fledgling network. It really doesn't surprise me that CBS would try to bolster their streaming subscription service by attempting to grab the assumed built-in audience of Star Trek fans again. The main problem is that Paramount and CBS haven't really taken good care of the franchise, and I doubt that many of my friends would want to subscribe to a streaming service for just one show, Trek or not. I can wait until the season is done, and it probably shows up on US Netflix.
  5. Reminds me of the Klingons in Star Trek: Into Darkness. There are other bits (the lens flare on the bridge and possibly going through a "windshield" display screen) that also seem to echo the rebooted movies.
  6. This one is on my Paranoia playlist (More Songs About Food Vats):
  7. Comey and the Russians sounds like it should be a Billy and the Boingers cover band.
  8. One of the turtles in the tunnel appears to be on its back.
  9. Because all the cool kids are doing it, currently on Track 3, "The Artilleryman and the Fighting Machine" from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds. It's the 2005 SACD release, which had a 5.1 remixed version from Jeff Wayne.
  10. The Magnificent Seven remake on DVD from last year. I enjoyed it, but it's still not quite the original.
  11. New album by Steve Hackett, The Night Siren. Deluxe edition comes with a Blu-Ray with the album in 5.1 and a "making of" video. Also found that the physical version of Ayreon's The Source comes with a DVD with the album in 5.1, as well. Both sound great.
  12. The new album (released April 28) from Ayreon, The Source. And before that, the new album (released April 7) from Mike + The Mechanics, Let Me Fly.
  13. Just got a call from "Microsoft" saying that their servers found my computer downloading viruses. I played dumb, and managed to get up to the point where they were going to fix my Internet license* for only $199. I was told to stop wasting their time after I said that I didn't have a checking account, and only pay in cash. 16 1/2 minutes before they disconnected. Oh, we hit all of the high points, including loading Event Viewer and saying that all of the errors were "viruses", and I seemed to confuse him a bit when I told him that my browser was Opera. I also dragged my feet enough for him to give me two different website links, since "Kaperkski" was blocking the first, and the second crashed my non-existent version of Opera. Of course, he was the the third "tech", since the first was confused when I asked which of the five computers was the one (it basically ended up being "pick one"), and the second got confused when I read him the run box text description. Heck, if I had thought of it, I should have told him that I dropped off of the internet, and needed to reconnect. Oh, well, next time. *I assume that it would be a dog license, with the word "dog" crossed out, and "internet" then written in crayon.
  14. The composer was Michael Giacchino, who was given a month to score the film after the original composer, Alexander Desplat, dropped out. Giacchino is known for scoring The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Up for Pixar, and the new Star Trek movies for Paramount, as well as a host of other movies, TV shows, and video games. That said, I was less than happy with Jurassic World, which I found to be a mostly forgettable soundtrack punctuated by a few quotes of the original John Williams compositions for the first two movies.
  15. Given the theme, I'd say check the "chop shops".
  16. I've been playing around a bit more with the latest version of Media Monkey, mainly for the DLNA/UPnP server functions. It's amazingly friendly with my new Onkyo surround sound system, and actually allows playlists on the receiver's network player. The only trick was marking the MAC of the receiver as an allowed client, otherwise, the library wouldn't show up. I've set up MM to have separate views for soundtracks, multichannel FLAC, 2 channel FLAC, classical, and so on; these also show up as options through the DLNA connection. The old media box is primarily running JRiver Media Center for TV recording, and Asset for an audio-only DLNA server. Asset allows multiple profiles (with on-the-fly conversion), so I've got one that converts FLAC to WAV that's capped at 48kHz/24 bit in case I want to stream to the XBox One or other devices that can't handle FLAC or sampling rates above 48kHz. Currently listening to "Water Out of Wine" by Tony Banks.
  17. I'm currently going through a bunch of CDs that I hadn't ripped into FLAC yet, and I've found a few oddities that were most likely picked up when I was working in electronics retail. One of these is a Spatializer demo disc, which touts a technology that simulates 3D stereo with two speakers. One short track mentions that it takes advantage of the advanced features of Microsoft's new operating system, Windows 95. Apparently, a few Spatializer-processed albums were released by labels, including a few classical/pops albums on the Telarc label. Currently listening to "Crazy Girl" by Rock Sugar.
