  1. Re: metamorphs to my right, metamorph's to my left What about a MA that takes on different aspects of the technique he is using? Kung fu (southern style I believe) associates many of its moves and stances with animals. Tiger, Eagle, Crane etc... I'm sure this would fit nicely and would be still street enough for you. Maybe not as much a metamorph as a taking on minor visuals of the animals. -Bluefire
  2. Re: HERO Computer design question OK I have a few things here. NSL are OPTIONAL based on GM's decision. If the computer is going to have a "firewall" using them you have a few glaring issues: Is the computer going to pay the endurance cost? What is the OCV of a computer? Once you hit higher levels of Firewalling, are you going to start buying NSL with piercing? Impractical or not, this is a very valid and real "thing" in the world. And as such we should be able to come up with a reasonable representation of it. Also on that note. Being that NSLs are optional, I think a GM can exercise his options and use NSL as just a target number modifier, nothing more nothing less. Again, I think people get too wrapped up in the math and statistics of a build, and forget the concept. Simple firewall -1 .. .. .. Adaptive firewall -Make an AI and flesh it out to the level you want. OR Throw it all out and just tell the player he has a -7 against that government computer he is trying to hack. On with the game, leave the "clunky construct " behind. -just my opinion.
  3. Re: HERO Computer design question How exactly do you envision the "visible" effect of a firewall? I deal with many firewalls at work and I do not see a visible effect when I am blocked or pass through one. Now, that being said. If in this campaign all computers are accessed via Virtual Reality (which was not stated by OP) I might be able to see the visible aspect. I think there is too much focus on numbers for this situation. Unless the computer network is visually and/or virtually interactive, negative skill levels work find IMO. There is alot on this scenario that we don't know and are making assumptions on. What would be the "day-to-day" effect. Is this a special firewall (ie against supers). Things like that.
  4. Re: Acronym help! Institution or Institute of National Surveillance and Espionage Coalition or Cooperative Just my crack at it.
  5. Re: Power Suit examples Also having just re-read the Focus section of the 5ER. You CAN at your discression define the armor as breakable yet durable or unbreakable for no increased cost. (pg 294 5ER). Durable (+0) doubles the defense for purposes of damaging the focus. Unbreakable (+0) is just that, unbreakable. Read pg 294 for a more complete understanding of focus'.
  6. Re: Munchkin Build Contest? Not claiming that these are that scarey, but when I thought of them they were These were all used by me as a GM at one time or another (Seperate villians of course) side note: I hate megascale. 50 Your Last Migraine: Killing Attack - Ranged 1/2d6, Continuous (+1), Based On EGO Combat Value (Mental Defense applies; +1), Attacker Chooses Defense (+1/2), Penetrating (x3; +1 1/2) (50 Active Points) 5 75 "I need more followers!": Major Transform 2d6 (Normal NPC -> Fanatically loyal follower), Area Of Effect (12" Radius; +1 1/2) (75 Active Points) 7 27 Soul Ripper: Drain BODY 1d6, MegaScale (1" = 1 km; +1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Area Of Effect (2" Radius; +1) (27 Active Points)
  7. Re: Power Suit examples Some very good points Jaxom, but I want to add a couple things here. When I build a character I build based on the concept that I have in my head. Sometime OIHID seems closer then OIF, sometimes not. As I have learned over my years, if I build a power OIF, I know that it can be damaged/stolen and I roleplay with that knowledge. As to the focus being damaged, its no more of a threat then a power being dispelled, suppress, transformed or any other adjustment to it. If your really worried about it, build in extra defenses. Last point... is it really appropriate for a suit of armor to modify SPD? I mean, I can justify and accept modification to DEX, but SPD is a toughy. That is one of the few stats that is campaign busting if not watched. Also tends to make a group not like you much if your always SPD +2 or more of them (thats the speedsters job).
  8. Re: Munchkin Build Contest? since I would like to jump into this funfest... Can the OP please give some guildlines? point values for the characters, both active and total. And are we talking about characters that are legal but munchkin or quasi-legal and the GM approves. -Bluefire
  9. Re: Power Suit examples Here is the thread I posted for my old character. Most people don't seem to like it. For what I was going for, it works. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58461
  10. Re: DC's Captain Marvel: OIHID or Multiform? Couple points I want to comment on. Who said that CM wasn't the primary form? The skills and perk/talents are the same in both forms, but the disads could be different. Maybe the Billy form is just a cheap (ie 30pt form). It would be legal, why not allowable? Base form (ie 200pts w/ 150pts disads) sets the point limit for all other forms. If you want a UBER powerful form, you have to either buy the difference with more disads, or spend more points on the multiform power itself with GM permission (pg 211 5ER). Having multiform IMO is better because it allows the GM to see the alt forms and address them on an individually basis. But that is not to say that OIHID is wrong. GMs should be trying to make for enjoyable gameplay, not a GM vs Player stance on how a character is made. If its mechanically sound then allow it. But if it is out of scope for the game or just plain munchkining, address that seperately. That is the underlining beauty of HERO, there is truely more then one way to skin a cat, and they are all valid.
  11. Re: 10 Global disasters that YOUR team might encounter...
  12. I would love to know what other people would list as their top 10 disasters that might take place in game. Something that the PCs could resolve or prevent preferably. Below are the 10 I thought up real quick. 1) Designer Drug (Superium) outbreak. Makes person superhuman for a few hours, then they will die. 2) Asteroid larger then the moon about to crash into Earth. 3) Scientist open a rift in time, but who is really controlling the rift? 4) Crashed radioactive UFO found to be cause of polar caps melting, but its protected by a inpenetrable field. 5) Electricity stops working around the world. Nothing powered, works. Why? 6) Engineered Virus is released that could kill supers and normals alike. 7) Viper creates an MMORPG that brain-washes those that play. 8) World leaders found to be robots controlled by Mechanon. 9) Dr. Destroyer surrenders "his planet" to off-world invaders. 10) Super Sinister Device is turned on that prevents people from sleeping. -Bluefire
  13. Re: [Character] Bluefire Anyone have guesses as to who this character might have been?
  14. Re: [Character] Bluefire Well, in Bluefire's youth he was a Super Group Team leader. Then his secret ID got sent to the Gulf War. Try as he might, it was extremely difficult to return to fighting crime as Bluefire the armored hero. His "Normal" life has taken him around the globe hunting war criminals and fighting wars in a completely different way. Due to a brush with brain cancer he again changed his "Normal" life as it were. He had gotten married and has 3 kids. Now he is sitting in a dead end, corporate wage-slave job reflecting on his glory days. He sits at home and tinkers with the old suit and looks for ways to return to the glory days of his youth. Note: he now has Physical limitation: mild short term memory loss +10pts The Character Bluefire is very near and dear to my heart just because he was my first real character (in champs) and he is modeled after one of my personal favorite comic characters. I do tend to get defensive and over-protective when it comes to this character, but then thats what happens when you have a character above all others. As Joshua said "... he was FIRST! Special"
  15. Re: [Character] Bluefire And thus we are back to my comment in the beginning where I picked Armor over FF. It is the creators decision to buy FF with an addition 1 1/2 advantage for mirroring armor without actually buying armor. The whole point of my question is NOT your build mechanics, but rather why a powers that is inherently 0 END is different from a power bought to 0 END with respects to frameworks. (Yes I know what it says on pg 314 Col2, Paragraph 2-4 5ER.) I have been very respectful of you, the community and the boards. But if you continue to talk down to me, I will just accept the fact that your bull headed and stop acknowledging your posts. Seems that no matter what I say, you miss my point and berate me.
  16. Re: [Character] Bluefire I'm still a bit confused how a zero end power bought with "costs end" is not "legal" but an EB bought to 0END is. I always treated ECs as a bonus for a well defined and in character grouping of powers. Obviously the 3 above powers are not good examples, but there are plenty out there that are. And of course GM has final say in all this. I'm just questioning the current public Paradigm of what is and is not "legal".
  17. Re: [Character] Bluefire Doing the rework of the MTAS MK1, I came across some interesting examples in the books that I have. Wanted to get some opinions on this... I have 3 scenarios. Question is, what is the major difference? All examples are in a framework. Cost Power 5 Elemental Control, 10-point powers 7 1) High Range Radio Perception (Radio Group) (12 Active Points) 7 2) Radar (Radio Group) (15 Active Points); Costs Endurance (-1/2) 5 3) Energy Blast 1d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (7 Active Points) So which one is wrong? Which one is right? And why? Being at work right now, I can't cite exactly where I saw the example, but I did find one of each is print.
  18. Re: [Character] Bluefire Slight rework based on feedback that I recieved. Yes there should be 2 more suits, but I'm working on concepts that would be "different" in a major way, so I will post when I get a better idea. And of course, further feedback is welcome. 19. Re: [Character] Bluefire Lets see if I can field these from my viewpoint. Sorry you feel that my concept was cheesy, I personally don't think it is. Why Multiform? Because too many GMs have problems dealing with VPPs. Kinda kills the whole concept of a gadgeteer hero. Multiform is a safe was to define multiple suits without having GM panic everytime I decided it "design" a new one. And yes, I AM getting multiple characters wrapped into one, but isn't that what Multiform is all about? I added them together for space reasons, nothing more. Both limitation still apply as normal. OIHID applies to the fact that I cannot use the powers unless I'm suited up. If someone takes the Suit (stolen OIF) then the previously said cannot happen. And the multiform itself was not purchased with OIHID. OIF for the armor itself, OIHID because it IS the hero ID. And there is sidebar example a multiform powersuit on the multiform page of the book. Still scream munchkin?

  22. In an attempt to revive an old character from 4th ed. I decided that I would re-write my favorite chracter. The old character was based mainly around a VPP. I personally loved the concept of Ironman when I made bluefire 17 years ago, so in alot of ways he was very similiar. Bluefire in concept is your typical Armored Powersuit / Gadgeteer. I did not make this version as flexable and complex as the original due to space concerns (I have about 30 pages of description for old BF). The MTAS MK1 character is actually the suit. I know he is not the most powerful, but that wasn't my goal. Please let me know what you guys think.

The desolid power came to me after watching Jackie Chan get pummelled and thrown off a building, jump up and run away. The power is bought with a few lims like "must know attack is incoming", etc...
