  1. The AARGH was from frustration! OK. I'm trying to build something one would think would be pretty simple: a gun that has different effects depending on what it hits. It does basic damage to inanimate targets, NND damage to animate ones, and blasts undead and creatures of evil magic to hell (i.e., a UAA Extra-Dimensional Movement power -- I know it's a stop-sign power but it's only against a small group and doesn't always work). A multipower requires that the user of the power determine the effect, not what the power is used on. I could build this as three linked powers, but that would be VERY expensive in terms of Active Points and exceed the AP cap of the campaign. Although only one attack is actually effecting the target. Any ideas about how to do this? Help would be greatly appreciated, and, perhaps, Repped, if I could figure out how to Rep anybody. Thanks!
  2. Re: Easily forgotten Could this be done just be treating regular memory as a form of Retrocognition, and then suppressing it?
  3. Re: Wow....that is a useless power for sure.... The Spectacular Human-Man. Bitten by a radioactive human being, he acquires the proportional strength and agility of a human being.
  4. Re: La faune nocturne de Paris: A Short Story of Zl'f & Le Magister I think the story is excellent (and I'm a former editorial writer and editor for a newspaper, if that means anything). I really quite admire people who devote that much time to develop their characters in a really literary way. I am far too lazy to do so myself.
  5. Re: La faune nocturne de Paris: A Short Story of Zl'f & Le Magister Mellow out man! I liked the build so much I printed it out, and as I was reading it the Limit caught my eye and I wondered what the rationale was. Nothing more than that. Like I said it's a great character.
  6. Re: La faune nocturne de Paris: A Short Story of Zl'f & Le Magister Zl'f is an awesome character. But why does she have Restrainable on her Running and Leaping? Aren't they just legs?
  7. Re: Real World Stuff That Only Sounds Like A Comic Book Code Name: Shrinker.

  9. Re: Real World Stuff That Only Sounds Like A Comic Book She was raised by wild dogs, actually, I think. But same difference.
  10. Re: Choke holds & silence attacks (build help) Ah, that makes sense then. My bad.
  11. Re: Choke holds & silence attacks (build help) Guys, I think steph is right. This is just an instance of the Incantations disad kicking in. If he can't talk, he can't incant. Stopping people from talking by cutting off their air is something anybody can do. If we go down the route of statting out things everyone can do, we're going to wind up buying "superpowers" like "Can Cover Target's Mouth With His Hands" and "6" Running, Restrainable (legs can be grabbed; -1/2)". Or "1d6 NND (Defense is Self-Contained Breathing), Does BODY, No Range, Must Follow a Grab, Must Be Next to Pool of Water" to represent dunking someone's head underwater.
  12. Re: Disads only in Hero ID? Insight requested! Thanks guys.

  14. Re: Disads only in Hero ID? Insight requested! That's my intuitive guess, but it seems strange to pay points when 1) haveing the two minds is actually a limitation, 2) the second mind almost never shows up (it mostly just mutters in the background how much it hates to be used by this puny human), and 3) all the first mind's knowledge is retained by the second. Plus I want to spend the extra points.
  15. Hello Assembled Knight of Herodam, Maybe one of y'all can help me on this. I'm building a character with the ever-popular OIHID limitation on loads of his purchases. Now, the idea here is that he actually "incarnates" another being within himself. The two beings actually have two minds, but the primary one (that of the base character) remains in charge 95% of the time. However, the longer he stays IHID, the more the second mind's personality extrudes itself (and it's a very bad personality -- it's a demon, in fact). Thus he would logically have a set of Disads representing the negative personality features of the second, demonic, mind, with the possibility of the latter breaking free if allowed out for too long of a period of time (a good reason not to stay IHID too long!). How would one purchase this? One obvious route would be to go with Multiform with Personality Reversion and other lims attached to it---but it seems odd to pay points for a power that actually limits the character. Relatedly, is "Distinguishing Features: Looks Monstrous when in Hero Identity" "Not Concealable," "Concealable," or "Easily Concealable"? It can't be hidden while in HID, but you can always switch back... Thanks for any and all input!
  16. Re: Probably not the right place, but... Mayapuppies, thanks! I lived in SD from 1975 until 1994 (I'm 35, graduate of San Diego High School '88 and SDSU), and must say I often miss the place, at least as far as it exists in my memories. Good luck to you!
  17. Re: Probably not the right place, but... My sympathies. You're from San Diego/RS? I grew up there. Nice place. Haven't been back for half a decade. How is it now?
  18. Re: How do I build: Caltrops Relatedly, how would one build barbed wire? I'm building a WWII-themed supervillain, basically a the product of a Nazi SS-officer's pact with the Devil (yup, he's really, really evil). I want him to be able to generate demonic versions of WWII-era weaponry, including barved wire that comes up from the ground and wraps around its victims. I wanted to build this as an Entangle linked to a Damage Shield, but don't know if that can be done. DS can be linked to a Force Wall, but I haven't seen it linked to Entangle. Can this be done? Thanks!
  19. Re: Slow reload/flintlocks, muskets etc. Thanks everyone for your replies. Could someone be so nice as to give me the rules on the Slow Reload limitation? I don't have access to the newest rules version. Thanks again!
  20. Re: Casual Survey: Age of players and Hero's utility vs. other games I'm an unusual case -- played RPGs when I was younger (much younger -- I was 20 then, 35 now), recently discovered PBEM and rejoiced during a pre-middle-age-crisis. I live now in a country where RPGs practically do not exist, so I was ecstatic to be able to reestablish the bond. ALWAYS loved Hero -- though it was just "Champions" then.
  21. Re: Slow reload/flintlocks, muskets etc. Thanks much all! You're a godsend.
  22. Re: Slow reload/flintlocks, muskets etc. Thanks a lot!! But I thought that implied the time taken to fire, the actual act of shooting taking the extra time, not the reloading itself?
  23. I'm sure this has been written about somewhere, but -- I'm building a Champs character with an enchanted flintlock, which does a whupass of damage but, being a flintlock, is reloaded very slowly. How does one build such a thing? I don't have FrED, but couldn't find anything addressing this in 5th Ed. Thank you Herodom!
  24. Re: Character: Ahmad ibn Fadlan I follow the various debates on Russian nationalism and the "Russia idea" only tangentially, but the Rus/Vikings issue is one that gets a lot of Russian nationalists hot and bothered, as does discussions about the Golden Horde and its influence on Russia (by the way, many Russian words dealing with commerce and government are Mongol/Tatar in origin, for instance the Russian word for money is "dengi," and the Tatar word is "denba"). It's one of those wierd nationality questions that preoccupy people in the former Soviet Union. There are over 100 distinct ethno-social groupings here, after all. Others are "are the Crimean Tatars really Tatars?" and "are the Cossacks a people?" (The Cossacks got officially recognized as a distinct people in the 2002 census. There are about 200,000 of them -- it's a long story).
  25. Re: Character: Ahmad ibn Fadlan I live in Moscow, and lots of people around here would hotly contest the notion that the Rus were Vikings!
