  1. Suppose that breaking free of Earth's gravity because something much cheaper and faster than what it currently is. Suppose even further that travelling and landing on planets in our solar system was fairly simple and "relatively" inexpensive proposition and was also fairly quick (maybe travel would be measured in weeks not months. Given that we have greatly reduced the cost to transport men and material, would there be a business case to travel to the other planets to set up mines or even perhaps to set up manufacturing facilities? By manufacturing I mean that pehaps some atmospheres and gravities may make the production of certain high priced but small sized items easier or less costly. And if there is a business case, what things would be mined/made?
  2. Re: Narf's Fantasy Stuff I get an error when I try to open the "spoiler". The same with the champions thread.
  3. Re: Kamarathin at Amazon I am thinking of doing a very low run picture book. What has been you experience with lulu?
  4. Re: Help - I need a base I agree. Currently for the campaign is that I made everybody take mutant disadvantage. While there are some NPCs that do have powered armor, of sorts, for the most part, that does not exist yet. Most every villian has been/will be changed to being a mutant. But with Muerte for expedience and for plot I may allow him to have honest to goodness powered armor. Now, how he got it may be subject for another story.
  5. Re: Help - I need a base I was thinking of a large courtyard that would not be regulrly shaped. It would house a large group of soldiers/trainees and provide basic training. Also equipment shed, vehicles etc. Perhaps more of a D shape since it would be carved out of a mountain. Withing the "D" would be the main base that has rectangle shape. There would be several levels stacked (maybe a couple underneath) with some spires.
  6. Re: Help - I need a base That is quite possible. I am not sure about having the technology for a force field at least on this scale is available yet. It maybe because I need to assure that there isn's some high-altitude bombing to take the base out.
  7. Re: Help - I need a base Dude!
  8. Re: Help - I need a base Fortunately the only character that has desolid is one who has the limit of not passing through solid objects. I like the idea of using various materials to keep people who do have DESOLID to pass through. Perhaps even a hand wavium for some composite material that will not allow desolid. I like the Affects Desolid. I have wondered how to stop that power. Pressure plates, light beam curtians are all standard 80's technology. I would like to place them so that they are logical. You need to figure that in the normal operation of the base people would on occasion make mistakes and trigger an alarm. I think that with a laser/blaster they will be for large items only. No personal weapons that utilize this technology has effectivly been built yet. Thanks.
  9. Re: Star Frontiers Conversion I have been adding here and there. I would like my gaming group to play the Volturnus modules and that would give me the push to finish up the conversion. I ran into a hiccup with the gyrojet weapons. After doing some research I found that in real life these are not very great weapons. I was thinking about making them a low-recoil weapon for lower G combat, perhaps keeping the damage the same as with a rifle and lowering the weight. If you want to add conversions to this thread, feel free.
  10. Re: Help - I need a base I am thinking about 100 security/military and perhaps another 10 or so field agents (the rest are in the field) Since they are strong with terrorism they do not rely on military strikes like Viper. The 100 people should be enough to not only defend the base vs. any sizable attack that they should expect, but also provide extas to provide for other services (such as working with field agents as needed) On the exterior, a great amount of training goes on. Groups pay $$$ to have their people trained. In the interior, weapon development, vehicles, security, communications and luxury rooms for the supers. "basement' holds the jail, and interrogation areas. Below that the base is run by the drive from an alien ship. Muerte has not been able to figure out how it works but has been able to use it to provide a great deal of energy to the base. I may just stick the whole thing in a mountain.

  12. Re: Help - I need a base What I mean is handling things like flying, desolid, and invisible people. While I may want the base to be "castle like" to stick too close to that model would make the base very vulnerable. There was something like what I would want in one of my ICE Star Law modules but It wasn't quite there. A little too small. I have about a month or so before the confrontation so that gives me time.
  13. Re: Help - I need a base I am looking at a place that is somewhat mountainous and also not close to civilization. The base may be built largely into a mountain. Transport takes palace via some air vehicles and some ground vehicles.
  14. Re: Help - I need a base Not quite what I am looking for but MAN is that cool. Flag it for another day.
  15. Re: Help - I need a base Ok, now for step two... Assuming a supervillain group who trains and executes terrorist acts around the world - has a base in a country they they do not have to worry about "hiding from". They are left alone for a number of reasons. There is already (this is 1983) a war going on between Argentina an GB. Any direct (or indirect) use of force by the west will trigger some very unwelcome political reactions by the rest of South America and they will see this as a power play/power grab and they may seek to align with the Soviets. So they have a base that is fairly safe from being overun by a large force of men. They may have some things to keep them save from a high-altitude bombing. But their main worrry is probably going to be a squad of commandos OR a superhuman group. What sort of things should be standard for defenses to gaurd against the good guys. And once those defenses are set up, what means would make for a good plot to get the heroes past most of the defenses. While the base will have some "high tech" defenses, they will not be many in nature. I am keeping 1983 mostly with some advaced tech available but either hideously expensive OR draws too much power. One of our heroes is being hunted by the group. Not for anything she did but because she was a former spy and Terror Inc. has decided to remove those people from existance. One of the spies from the characters old team sent her a message regarding the threat and the murder of former team members. Two other members are in hiding and the one who wrote the message is running and hiding. One thought is for the team to finally catch up/rescue the former team mate and perhaps some of the goons may provide a means into the fort/base. But I am not sure if the whole, dessing up on the uniform thing is too cliche' Thoughts?
  16. Re: Help - I need a base That Mr. Curtis is quite the busy guy!
  17. Re: Help - I need a base Thanks for the input. Actually, I was looking for some floor plans.
  18. I am looking for a base to host Terror Inc. I am looking for something that is rather spacious and castle like. This will be located in Brazil (as if that detail matters). Does anybody have any maps/links, etc for such a base?

    Story thread?

Re: Story thread? Officially, I really don't know how it works. Unofficially, I am not a big fan of that kind of stuff BUT I don't have a problem with it, especially if you are not doing a zillion posts a day (as if my opinion carries weight). While your posts may not be a "discussion" the stories will generate discussion and ideas so I cannot imagine how it would be unwelcome in these forums.
  24. Re: Help build Sin Eater Jamie Hernandez grew up in the Hispanic area of Chicago in normal loving home. His fascination with the Roman Catholic Church started at an early age. The statues, the traditions all held a special place in his heart, but nothing quite as strong as the crucifix. With the taking of his first communion, his devoutness grew even stronger. His thoughts started centering on how to best serve the church. It became apparent that many of those who lived in his neighborhood were living ruinous lives. Alcoholism, abuse, neglect, drug use, prostitution were constant reminders to him of man's fallen nature and the need for redemption. When Jamie graduated college he had thoughts of entering the priesthood, but decided that was not the life for him. Instead he chose to go to a local junior college with hope of attending a Roman Catholic college after he saved up some money. At college, Jamie happened to meet a Dr. Sebastian Poe on campus. Dr. Poe spoke with Jamie about being part of a psychological study. With the promise of some money and thinking the study was going to involve some questions he accepted the opportunity to participate in the study. Unbeknownst to him, Dr. Poe can detect minds who have latent psychic ability. He administered drugs (disguised in food and drink) to Jamie over and extended period of time. This drugs did, in fact, bring to light the psychic abilities in Jamie, but not without ill effects. In the service to his church, Jamie would take the Eucharist to those in the hospitals and nursing homes. One day, an elderly fellow died while Jamie was visiting, he passed away. Jamie's psychic abilities kicked in and Jamie took on the persona of this man. He felt the sins of this man's past and wanted to make atonement. By going to confession and doing acts of penance he finally felt the burden of sin lifted from him. He was certain that the old man was able to achieve atonement vicariously through himself. With the new found gift, he visited the sick and the dying. The problem was, they were not dying fast enough. For those who were soon to die, he would take steps to subtly euthanize them. It was often impossible to predict the amount of unatoned sin in the lives of the elderly and often he felt his attention was wasted on people who did not really need his gift, so he started out seeking others more deserving. It was not long before he started activley seeking the most lost of sinners. The drugs not only produced psychic ability, they also started producing a psychosis of sorts. To Jamie the actions he takes are logical and loving. The problem is that he is misguided and slightly insane. He seeks those who are those labeled as the biggest sinners, the most obvious of the physical sins. Issues of pride, greed, etc, are not factored in yet, but could be in the future. He targets Caucasians, blacks and Hispanics. He assumes the other groups (Arabic, Jews, Indians (dot and feather), etc) are not Christians and fall outside his mission. This is, of course, not necessarily true, but that is the framework he works within. 25. Re: Dr. Sebastian Poe I will have to look at what I did wrong. I think I should have set the skills to being based on INT. I just ran them as normal skills in HD. Thanks for picking the Nits....I need it. Just so you know, my nose is fine.
