  1. Re: Post Apocalyptic Hero Ok, lets suppose you wanted to do a Morrow Project type campaign. [For those who do not know, Imagine someone foresaw a nuclear war and froze a number of military units in suspended animation, wherein they were to wake up shortly after the attacks in order to restore order. However, the signal did not occur for something like 100 years after the nuclear exchange.] How would you keep the tires from disintigrating (I assume one would need to use another material)? Based on today's technology (even experiemental stuff) what would you use to power the vehicles?
  2. when you can just buy the stat cheaper? For example: Aid 1d6 strength costs 10pts. You will get, on average, 3.5 pts of strength. It costs endurance to activate and returns rather quickly. OTOH: +10 pts of strenght cost just 10 pts, costs not end to activate (unless you take the disadvantage) and will last for however long you want.
  3. Re: Greatest Post-Apoc Film of All Time To me, the high number of views and the low number of posts mean only one thing - they are generally SOOOO bad that nobody can think of more than one. My pick - The Planet of the Apes (the original). But in general, they all stink (A Boy and His Dog) or are very shallow (like Escape from New York - I know, that is technically not a PA movie) .

  6. Re: What I do not get about package deals.. I still think it is silly for the +1's and +2's, but for major changes it makes sense. I think what makes the packaged deals so confusing is that they have a point cost for the deal. Instead, it should be a list of stuff that you have to buy to play that race or class. The point cost is very misleading. A package may only cost you 5 points but once you have "paid" for it you may not have any points to buy anything else and your disadvantage "slots" may be used up.

  9. Re: KillerShrike.com Fantasy Update I think they way you have it currently laid out works best for viewing it on the Web. I also think just printing out what you need, makes sense. For me, however, I want to put as much information on a PRINTED PAGE as possible. I also dont want to be printing a bit here and a bit there - I want to print once and be done with it I am not trying to get you to change your site. I am not trying to get you to change anything. My purpose for putting the Word Document was a test at putting the information in your site into PDF format (or other). For that to be done, I think it is necessary to condense space and duplication. I am going to repeat myself so there are no misunderstandings (not that I am saying there is any) You are doing a great job and have a great site. I am not critiquing anything you have done. And in no means am I trying to do anything more than to create dialogue to look at putting the wonderful work you have done into a different format. Perhaps I am a bit off, which is possible. In that case I will continue condensing your stuff and be thankful for all that you have done.

I do not disagree with the lowered intellegence but here is why I think it might be good to add the SPD limitation: When they are first attacked, the text states that for a short time they do not act rationally (firing in all directions, just standing there, etc). Once the adrenaline (or whatever) kicks in they start getting smarter and become cunning. Since the non-Kafers get a free few attacks on Kafers I wounder if that would be best simulated by giving them a speed of 1 and starting combat on phase 1. Once combat has taken place for 1 full turn, then their spd goes to up to 3. Since the intellegence characteristic does not normally play a role in combat, it seems that something else needs to be affected. Please feel free if you think i am "all wet". M Judging from the pictures, they do have exoskeleton but it seems to cover only their backs (3-5, 9-13) (maybe a def 8?). Their noggins look a little tough (maybe def 4?). The rest of their body looks rather unprotected.
  11. Re: What I do not get about package deals.. This brings up another question I was going to post. Let me summarize what I think you are saying. (The following may be confusing) If I, without the racial package deal, take off two points of Strength and add it to my Constitution - there is no change to the number of character point added to my character because it is a wash. But if I take a characteristic increase, as a package deal, the bonus to the characteristic counts in the cost of the character - even if I take a reduction in another characteristic? So does a minus to a characteristic likewise count as a disadvantage? What about if I have a big character, does the -1DCV count as a disadvantage?
  12. Perhaps someone can enlighten me, but I do not understand why low level modifications are given in package deals. If I make up a race named Jafssd and I give them a +2 Str and a +1 Dex, I really haven't done anything because most people jack up certain characteristics anyway. And if the package TAKES AWAY certain stats, couldn't one simply buy them back? What is the rational? I like the idea of making all the modifications to Characteristic Maximums equal out in points (ex NCM 21 Con and a 21 Int but a 19 DEx) but what do you do with a creature like a centaur. They would have beefed up str, con and body but the severities that would need to be placed on the other characteristics is too severe. How do you handle this?
  13. Re: KillerShrike.com Fantasy Update I tried reformatting the Dwarf and Elven stuff into MS Word. I put it into two column mode. I did make two big changes. The first was to put the basic racial stuff at the beginning and I only listed the differences for the various sub-races. Secondly, I did modify some of the write-ups. I could not get the formatting exact. MS Word can make me so crazy. I want to be able to put the most information in the least amount of space and still be usable. Let me know what you think.

    Re: 2300 AD Kafers?! What about giving them a low speed and bumpting it up in combat? That would seem to fit. Do they use armor? From the pictures it doesn't appear so.
  15. Re: Using Ranged Attacks in melee Thanks. I know from playing Neverwinter Nights (I have never officially played any DnD other than the original) they had some Combat Archery type skill. I think I will leave well enough alone.
  16. In a heroic campaign, is there any negative combat modifiers for an archer or a gunman (using a rifle) using a their weapons in melee?

  22. Re: House of the Flying Daggers I liked this movie better than Hero, at least in regards to the action. The lake scene was too much for me in Hero and the bamboo forest was almost too much for me in House. In regards to resolution, I think leaving it the way he did was best. My take is that the battle ended the same way the battle finished between the two "DUDES" (I forget their name). I think the idea of using people, and people using people through letting them use you was very interesting. I also love redemption stories - very powerful. The best being Boromir in TLOTR.

What seemed to lacking (I have not been consistant in my reasearch since I have been shifting genres) is the lack of military stuff (which I now got with the tool kit). I am not sure that I am that keen on the Kafers. I was hoping that there might be a way of blending the two (AW and 2300) together rather seemlessly. But, after seeing AW, I don't think there is.
