Finally got mine last night in the mail. WOW. This is a great book, heck this should have been the book released right after Champions. This book will go a long ways in pulling some holdouts over to the hero side of life I think (hope).
  2. Another happy FRP customer. Found them from buying stuff on Ebay. Use them quite often on pre-orders or hard to find stuff. Always good service. Mark
  3. Put something in charge that doesn't like anybody messing with them, be it mutants, highly skilled normals, or guys with powered armor. Think fifth column type stuff as in V
  4. I know I've seen this discussed here before but just wanted to throw out a reminder to the powers that be... Would love to have a PDF version of the MC map available to download and printing. Something done with vector graphics (did I say that right??) so it can be nicely scaled up without pixelating out would be awesome. I've got a great 2pageX2page printout of Freedom City to add my own notes to and would love to have the same for Millienium City.
  5. Can't wait for this one. With a group of players that don't have the background in the system to see the versatility of it a book like this is going to really help show them what CAN be done and examples of how. This could be one of the best books on the schedule when it comes to getting new players into the game.
  6. Maybe even if the purchasable templates for Hero Designer had a more expensive version available for sale that had the artwork, would be nice to print out Firewing with his picture on the page. :-)
  7. Am planning on running some sample combats for my groups that is FINALLY developing enough of an interest in the genre to try some super hero games. We've already dinked with M&M somewhat - my idea was to do a quick convert on their M&M character ideas into HERO 5th - then run some mock combats in each and see what they think of each. For the most part this is simple, except for the Powered Armor characters one ability. He want's his armor to be able to do it's own thing when he is not armored up - so he can do the Stark standing next to Iron Man type of thing. In M&M we wrote this up as the armor just being a sidekick of the character with data link thrown in so he can communicate of short distances. Pretty cheap point wise, armor is not as effective on it's own as it is when he's inside. Any ideas on how to pull this one off in HERO without throwing a huge amount of character points into it? Even if the concept has to be tweaked with the AI and data link ideas.
  8. Quite true and I seem to remember some frustration at this a few years ago when 3rd edition first game out and they didn't release the core books together. So not only did our DM have to get both books, he waited a month before doing anything with it since they didn't come out together.
  9. Which at least 2 of my players insist is a good thing. On the flip side Freedom City costs about half again as much as Millenium City does for that nice color artwork, but it also has about half again as many pages. Once you get past FREd that argument breaks down a bit though. There's already two supplements with martial arts material. As for color HERO books, CKC is the one I'd have loved to have been in fully color, with MC close behind.
  10. And of course trying to figure out what of those 15-20 books is worth the weight of the paper can be a challenge. The third party stuff is pretty easy to skip unless it has something that jumps out at you (Green Ronin - M&M for example) but when I was big into Forgotten Realms it was hard to pass up anything that came out. But then even that stuff started taking on the "we're putting this out because we need an FR product this month" type of feel and it got easier and easier to bypass the stuff. :-) And right now I think they're doing good. It's a fine balance I think between enough stuff to keep interest going and turning out yet another book just because you need to fill out the production calendar.
  11. M&M wasn't released until mid-late November last year. I have a slight concern that HERO could be going the way of WW in the regards of the "book of the month" club for gaming. I used to get some of the White Wolf stuff way back when they started, but then the floodgates opened and I couldn't keep up with it. I think that there's enough area's in the HERO product line that they won't saturate one genre. Of course that doesn't mean that I don't have all these lovely books. LOL
  12. Sounds like he takes a commonly used approach to playing Magic:TG and uses it for rpgs. Yikes. One of our group comes up with some twisted decks from time to time, I think I'd freak if he ever pulled that on a character though.
  13. I agree that what you've got is already great. Just something for easy combat rounds. Most other stuff (stun, end, ocv, armor, etc) I'd probably just use of hard copy sheets so I wouldn't be switching programs on the PDA all the time anyways.
  14. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=celtic-cowboy&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=25 A member of my group who also buys a lot of HERO stuff has to come up with some extra cash by EOM so I'm selling some of his stuff on Ebay for him (see what happens when you get a big Ebay rating). Has several of the newer books (core, UMA, Ninja Hero, Star Hero etc) as well as a few of the older support books. So if you're missing something, or just need a loaner copy give it a look.
  15. I'd look at the players as well. If they're heavy DnD they might take to MnM a little faster. If they love stuff like GURPS than the switch to Hero is easy. I love Champions but it's like pulling teeth to get some of my group to even look at the Hero System. I think you can have a good game with either once things are going and everyone spends more time thinking about the game than the mechanics. Mark
  16. I think McCarthy is on the right track although there could be several ways to format it. Most importantly something that gives the novice players a chance to look at the powers by theme or special effect and then figure out what the details of the Hero system are instead of looking at FRED and trying to make sense of how to write up thier character. If he want's a human torch character someplace to give them lots of quick ideas of not only how to build the power but what kind of stunt powers to add on to it. Mark
