  1. Re: Disturbing Character premises... ROBOT CHICKEN!!! Err, I mean, yes. And I held these views before I saw that episode.
  2. Re: DEX levels in your campaign. Agreed. Take for instance, the fortnightly games I'm involved with. Every second saturday, Sundog and I get together with some friends of ours (Including people who post on these boards like Fireleaper, Dhroz and BarbaraVdB). In the afternoon, my City On The Edge campaign includes a DEX 26/SPD 6 Brick, a DEX 30/SPD 6 Supersoldier, a DEX 23/SPD 5 Energy Projector, a DEX 20/SPD 5 Energy Projector and a DEX 15/SPD 4 Mentalist. In the evening, Sundogs Kingdom City campaign includes DEX scores as Low as 16, with my character, The Specter, ranging from 18-33, depending on the situation. I'm not as sure as everyone elses DEX scores, but as The Specter is on public record as team leader, I guess I need to find out.
  3. Re: Zoom: Academy for Superheroes I haven't seen it yet, but I think that movies like this are probably more enjoyable to use simply for the situation that Bloodstone described. If nothing else, we have an option of playing out how we would do it.
  4. Re: Disturbing Character premises... For the large part, I agree. The actions described are ones that would probably get the characters @$$ booted to the curb. To many people think that their character should be given more slack simply because they are PCs. However, the statement that an evil PC, if played properly, isn't a hero is not entirely correct. A classic example I like to use of an evil character who could very well work well with a group to "heroic" ends is Kerr Avon, from Blake's 7. Utterly Self-serving and Condescending of Blake's ideals, he still saves the crew of the Liberator on several occasions. In fact, the character, despite becoming increasingly paranoid after the death of Blake, show signs of a heroism that culminate in the cynical embezzler ending the martyred hero. The problem is that too many players see the alignments as being far more restricitve than they really are. Altogether, the nine alignments simply catagorise nine broad groups of philisophical leaning. These days, you simply ask yourself some questions about who your character is (which is why I still think that the Hero Builders Guidebook is the best supplement that WotC has ever released), and then place them accordingly.
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Not to mention me as the GM continuously humming or whistling the tune for "Teddy Bears Picnic." (Hey! That's sort of a quote:p)
  6. A certain site proclaims Tiger-man as the worst hero, ever. I'm just curious if anyone knows of any other contenders to the title? Anyone?
  7. Re: Best ever Reason to NOT be a superVillian!! Because I don't want to have to compete with Quantum Crook.
  8. Re: Superhuman women and normal women Sucks to be us, sometimes.

  10. Re: [Char] Biohazard A bit light on the skills for my tastes, but his background doesn't really demand any. As you said, he's a basic brick, although I am curious. What are the visible effects of his armour, as the description of his appearance doesn't seem to justify it.
  11. Re: best ever reason to be a Sidekick(hero support) The hero get's to have girls for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not literally, but you know what I mean. They're practically throwing themselves at him. One word. Leftovers.

  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Haven't read the books, but I have seen up to ep.6. Like I said, blame the GM.
  19. Re: Superhuman women and normal women This is actually an element that is in the background of my campaign universe. In it, beyond the full blown supers, there are a number of "lesser supers" that live and work in the world. Many of them apply their abilities to their work or personal lives, such as the electrician who can immediately identify the fault in your electricals because he's sensitive to current flows. Not a power that's particularly usefull to a crime fighting carreer, but it led him to fool around with electronics a little in high school and move on to be an electrician in his working life. This also means that there are men and women who's only "ability" is having PRE and/or COM of superhuman and higher levels. So, in comparison, Superheroes and Supervillains are members of the "beautiful people" set, and still have an influence, but it's mitigated by the top actors and models being able to "compete" on the same level. That being said, Superbeings get a lot of media attention from doing fantastic things, so the still have a significant influence. In effect, the whole Superhero/Supervillain divide has trickled down into the rest of society, creating a polarised morality. While not everything is black and white, there is a greater tendancy towards one end or the other of the various moral spectra.
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The Porn Director? Oh, the author. Don't blame me, blame the GM.
  21. Re: Best ever Reason to NOT be a superVillian!! I'm sure that Steve Long is happy to hear it. I actually created a character a while back that had entire amoral reasons to not be a supervillain. Three-piece. “Well, where to start? I mean, let’s look at the dating scene from the ‘villain’ angle, shall we? Normal women either run screaming for the hills or are unstable, and the supervillainesses are man-haters, or simply self-centred, or paranoid, or a combination of these. Superheroines can still have these tendencies, but they are less common and often less severe. Then we get to marketability. As a supervillain, you don’t really have any, as any sort of money trail can be traced by the authorities in time, and the range of merchandise is limited. And the general public simply won’t like you. With a good publicity agent, even the most mediocre hero can be well loved, with endorsements for a wide range of consumer goods. Of course, it helps to utilise some level of quality control. I still cringe at the “Foxbat-Marital-Aids” debacle.” And, on the note of “better PR”, I give you this. 22. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From tonights deadlands game. My blessed character has a powerful relic that can amplify any miracles effects to an area (or an increased one). Or, I can remove the nails from it to form three swords (Cavalry Sabre, Katana, and a European Bastard Sword). Anyway, when my character first made use of the relic, one of the players quipped, "Wonder-cross powers, Activate!" Guess what the relic is...

  24. Re: UNTIL Super Powers Database I & II are darned useful Actually, this is where I have found them to be the most usefull, also. I have tried to share my own obsession with the Hero System with people for (Let me think... oh gods) over a decade now, and the number one problem has been that they often had trouble matching a concept into the points level and then having it actually be an effective character. The cut, paste, tweak as needed nature of these books have lessened that greatly. Seriously,, two thumb up!
