  3. Re: Strange Hero Concepts: Discuss Your Own! Actually, with one of my players looking over my shoulder as I type, I am reminded of the fact that I invented Killer Furbies. My PCs nicknamed them "Furbinators" after they discovered that they were actually 8" tall robots that resembled T-800s. These robots would rip the guts out of Furbies and climb inside them, animating when their purchasers least expected it and then murdering them.
  4. Re: Build Challenge: Mythbusters! Hey, I started the thread, so yeah. I have been doing a little thinking on it. I'm going to do a write-up that, while not 100% faithful to them in real life, it will be heavily inspired by them. The conceit is that in a world where superbeings are real, they ended up a little different. As it stands, I'm doing all of them as technologically based supers (probably low-level), except for Adam, who is clearly a mutant with some sort of damage mitigation ability (a truth in our world, also:sneaky:), as well as Jamie having a gadget VPP that only worked at the M5 workshop, a "I have just the thing" kind of deal. I'm thinking that I'll go along these lines. Jamie: Equal best gadgeteer of the team, he takes more time, but has a higher chance of success. Adam: Equal best gadgeteer of the team, he takes less time, but has a lower chance of success. The two of them also have penalty skill levels for a particular slot, which is to Aid the other's VPP. When these guys combine forces, well, take a look at Blendo.Side note: I did notice, though, that on the needle-in-a-haystack build-off, Adam was the one with the simple solution. Kari: I'm thinking a binary liquid adhesive projector and an electrical attack. Tory: I'm still not sure where to go with him. Grant: Is way easy. He's the robotic toymeister with a suite of electronics based powers. Jess Nelson: I'll probably make a DNPC (Which is also accurate as to how often she appears on camera.) Comments? Criticism?

  7. Re: Help: Folk Heroes. Actually, maybe not gods, but heroes from within the legends of their interactions with mortals. I just have to make sure that they're not too obscure within the modern descendants cultural identities.

  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Well, in my Champions campaign, I nearly fell out of my seat from this one. A great example of a Brick forgetting his own strength. Trawler: I didn't think that I would do that much damage to the truck. I mean, I was only hitting some guy with it!
  11. Re: Help: Folk Heroes. Well, here is a definition that I've found usefull. Put that way, MacGuyver nearly counts, as I know of several people who have never seen the show (and man I love{ed} that show) who can recount some of the stories. BUt, I think that Angus MacGuyver would be stretching a bit. Although, what occurs to me is that it is less that the character draws on folk heroes, and more that he draws on legends.
  12. Re: Who are your favourite Superhero Artists? Frank Miller & Alex Ross top my preferences. I also happen to enjoy Stan Sakai's work, although not as often as I would like to. And finally, Kevin Schultz.

  18. Re: Strange Hero Concepts: Discuss Your Own! Swarmling A city spirit that inhabited the bodies of 250 rats, all at once, and could get them to cling to each other in a vaguely humanoid shape. Legend A metamorph who transforms into the physical embodiment of the Legends of Folk Heroes. See my folk heroes thread for more details. Bill A magical sword. A really magical sword. Bombardier A superhero who was cursed with theme music. Any time somebody referred to him in his presence, an otherworldly marching band would play military fanfare. ("You know, that guy" *cue music*). Whisper A soul eating shadow daemon working for the prince of evil himself. One problem, he's been bound to a paragon of innocence, and must fight for truth , justice and brotherly love! Loon Back in 4th ed, Loon was the unfortunate result of Merry Andrews attempt at making a team mascot. Thus Loon, the living cartoon was born. He once intentionally got "tagged" just so he could spraypaint (i.e. tag) the letters "I" and "T" on TeeHee.

  20. Re: Help: Folk Heroes. Hmm. I would hardly call Mr Fulton a folk hero, although you have given me an idea for another character. King Math might make an interesting mystic, but transmuters tend to get expensive, fast. Ivanhoe could work. I did make a magical PA-jock for 4th ed. Taliesin is interesting, but a metamorph who turns into another metamorph? Thomas Learmonth of Erceldoune? Hmm, that has some possibilities, especially if the "real" one returns from the fairyland. Casey Jones. The idea of the embodiment of the legend of a locomotive engineer as a speedster in a superhero environment just boggles the mind a little too much.
  21. Re: The Mind Controlling Hero As has been said by others before me, it is possible to play a mind controlling hero, but it is a very careful hero if they are an ethical one. Funnily enough, I think that Attack of the Clones has one of the best examples. When Obi-wan uses his force influence upon the death-stick dealer, he ultimately leaves the final decision up to the dealer. "You want to go home and rethink your life." In the end, though, I'm more worried about the ethics of non-mentalists. Many Bricks (not all) routinely pick up nearby cars, benches and lamp-posts for use as weaponry, as well as simply pounding through scenery or knocking people through walls. How is it ethical to "save someones life" if you recklessly endanger the lives of countless others in the attempt?
  22. Re: Help: Folk Heroes. Hmmm. Paul Bunyan, giant woodsman (John Henry Fills the Brick slot) Mike Fink, riverboat brawler and legendary marksman (Who?) Pecos Bill, super-cowboy (Hmmm, Weapon expert with a difference from the standard fare. Nice) Johnny Appleseed? PEB autofire? (Nah. See Below.) James Bowie (HKA) (Nah. See Below.) William Tell (It has definite possibilities...) Well, there are two suggestions that didn't sit well with me for some reason, and I think that I've figured out why. I basically would prefer suggestions that also range from outside of the cultural groups already suggested, due to the PRE effect I have in mind. I'm only set on the first two, anyway. How about I organise this a little differently. Brick: John Henry. (North Americans, particularly the blue collar type). *FIXED* Energy Projector: Probably difficult to fill (probably filled by a weapon expert), needs thought. Gadgeteer: Do any folk heroes fall into this category? Martial Artist: Wong Fei Hong. (Chinese, particularly the Cantonese). *FIXED* Mentalist: Mesmerism? Mystic: Most tended to be the advisors or adcersaries to folk heroes. Powered Armour: Almost definitely not. Speedster: A famous horseman? Weaponmaster Robin Hood? Pecos Bill? William Tell? Hmmm. This IS hard...
  23. I'm working up a concept that's been bouncing around my brain-pan for a while now, and I realised that I need just a smidge of help. The basic idea is a metamorph who transforms into representations of folk heroes, with some major PRE bonuses stemming from that. As this character is intended to be a Mr.Flexibilty-type metamorph, each of the forms will also not overlap too heavily with another form in regards to archetype (Brick, Energy Projector, etc...) The forms I'm currently thinking of are... John Henry as a brick(The hammer is simply visible effect of his HA power) Wong Fei Hong as a Martial Artist. And maybe Robin Hood as the classic form of the weapon master, the archer. Any suggestions?

    CHAR: Tempest

Re: CHAR: Tempest Thanks for the input. As I said, it's given me some ideas and that's what these boards are about.
  25. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! Brilliant! And I know just how to tweak it so as to get the Dark Kingdom invovled. Repped.
