  1. Re: The Meta X MR Wild Card Gene Syndrome Virus is Female Dominant! Most FtF players I've met play their own gender exclusively. I enjoy playing cross-gender, but it seems to make most male and some female players uncomfortable. I've had better success avoiding others' discomfort playing a genderless shapeshifter who maintains a female super identity. Weird, because Plastique's character development has delved into psycho-sexual themes to explore it's utter lack of hormone-driven behaviors. You'd think those themes would have triggered the cross-gender woogies much more readily than playing a woman just because the costume concept looked better on the female pose in Hero Machine. I guess the depth of a group that plays character-exploring plotlines just might exceed that of a group out to bash baddies and argue about the rules.
  2. Re: Force Field Limitation Thanks for the thoughts. Yes indeed, the brick is defending his charge with his body, so he takes damage and the defenses are identical to his own defenses. It also costs End due to the necessary continual vigilance. The power will at first require an action every phase to maintain and a concentration DCV penalty, but these will disappear with XP. I'll probably stick with the original power construct with a -1 limitation value. It's going into a multipower as a fixed slot, so the limitation value will not affect the final cost much. I just wanted a well-research construct. I got the idea for this power during an in-game rescue scene. Megalith had the scientist cradled closely to his oversized (10pt Growth) chest, and I elaborately described the measures Megalith was taking to protect him while slamming backwards through walls to get away from the baddies while the others provided suppressive fire-support. The GM still ruled him nearly dead from the impacts. %$#&$%#. It was a good plan, dramatically appropriate and tactically sound, but he just didn't want this guy conscious and available to provide scientific consultation.
  3. I'm working on a slot for a Brick Tricks multipower: Protective Custody: Force Field 25rPD 25rED; Protects Carried Items/People; Only Protects Carried Items/People. Any suggestions for the value of the Only Protects Carried limitation? The power of course has other details, but they're all covered nicely by FREd.
  4. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes You're all kicking my butt. Ariel and Ash are 3rd level, and I'm splitting my time between them on Triumph, a Super Group on Guardian, teaming with my wife on Freedom, and my favorite solo on Pinnacle.
  5. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Sorry. I originally started this with the intent of driving greater participation, but I've gotten slammed with RL time commitments, so I haven't been able to play as much as I'd like. However, my original intent was to create something of a casual association of magical characters who would have an excuse to team up or just help each other out when encountered on the streets of Paragon City. A formal Super Group called either House LeFey or The Hermetic Council or what have you would be icing on the cake, but mainly I was looking at an exercise in cummunity building. Not to say that individuals can't use this thread or any other communication medium to hatch more formal plots. That's purely at their option. When I have more time (soon), I plan some plots myself. We've just gotten started. Give it some time to gain a life of its own.
  6. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Welcome aboard. I still encourage people to make plenty of LeFey characters. I want everyone else on Triumph to wonder what's going on.
  7. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes As much as I ordinarily hate dumbing down anything, I think we need a name that a casual observer without specialized historical knowledge will associate with a magical background. Using the Vandaleur name would have been a very cool Champions Universe bit, worth the cost of losing the easy association with magic for the uninitiated. Since Vandaleur is not an option, we're back to accessibility as the primary concern. Another advantage of LeFey is that it's short. Character names can only be 15 letters, counting spaces, so longer surnames leave less room for creativity on the player's part. Now, if enough people want to make associated characters with different surnames, there's no reason we can't broaden the scope of the Super Group to a Hermean Council or something similar.
  8. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Welcome, Joshua. See you on Triumph.
  9. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Didn't take root with me.
  10. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes
  11. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Variant spelling, but we'll write that off as a British thing. I'll Friend list you when I log in next. Look for Ariel LeFey (ice/storm controller), and Ash LeFey (invlunerable/strength tank, dryad & ogre bloodlines).
  12. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Thing is, I'm not going for subtle. I want people to look at a Team of LeFeys and start worrying. Though Leafy LeFey would make a cute name for a tree-themed magic tank, brown-skinned with green hair. Alright, let's go with LeFey on the Triumph server. Interested parties post here and/or send an in-game email to Ariel LeFey. I will Friend list any LeFeys I hear from or run across. We should keep a running roster in this thread, or start a new thread called LeFey CoH. I'm not about to tell anyone how to make their characters, but magic origin is sort of the point, along with the LeFey surname unless you're making a magical ally to the family, such as an elemental, construct, or what have you. I also think it would be cool to make the costumes look like street clothes, but I know there are only so many different combinations of that nature possible in the costume designer. I'm running Ariel through the tutorial now. So hopefully I'll see some fo you soon.
  13. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes I'll probably keep it on Triumph, since I already have an earth elemental on that server, in addition to whatever sorceror I create. I'm leaning heavily toward LeFey. I'm also considering widening the scope of the community to a Hermean Council sort of concept, but we can start with the LeFeys. We have until someone reaches 10th level to choose a theme for the Super Group.
  14. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes That's really good, too. Though I think it would make a better first name. Nice irony in Ambrose LeFey.
  15. Re: Sorcerous Family/Association on City of Heroes Ooh, LeFey is good. Hermes is also simple, suggestive, and public domain.
  16. I posted over in the Company Questions forum a plan to begin a community within City of Heroes based on the Vandaleur family. Steve and Darren were agreeable, but I found an unpleasant clause in the game's EULA that made the idea untenable. See this thread for details. I still think it's a good idea, forming a meta-group of magical associates based loosely on the Vandaleur family, but we can't use the actual Vandaleur name. It's been suggested that we use a similar name, but we could simply come up with anything that sounds good, is short enough for easily fit in 15 letters with a first name, and suggests a magical heritage. Gathering input here. Brainstorming time!
  17. Re: Wanted - old Adventurers Club magazines I've got a extra copy of #23 in fair to good condition. Cover price ($4) + shipping (have to check) + round up to the next dollar for PitA & envelope, and it's yours.
  18. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? Ack, now I can't get it off!
  19. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? Nueva Madrid, huh? I've been thinking that I need another European super city, and the Progressive Socialists currently in power in Spain could use a little PR boost.
  20. Re: The fall of the Soviet Union sucked.
  21. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many?
  22. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? You're right. There's a reason I call my campaign setting Cannibal Comics. I'm at the top of my game when producing derivative works, and I've got no shame about it. If you steal from EVERYONE, and then make it all fit together logically, it's original all over again. (Copyright law does not necessarily agree with this opinion.) The details of each city are where the originality lies. Marvel's Doomstadt is depicted as a Bavarian-ish village with Doom's castle on an overlooking hill. Boring boring boring. I replaced it with a gleaming hi-tech dytopia capable of playing on the global level. DC's Coast and Star Cities are plain old fictional cities invented as the stomping grounds for their flagship characters. When I read that Star City was on the Northern California coast, I decided to make it more appropriate to the culture I experienced when I lived there.
  23. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many?
  24. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? I really like super cities, so I say there's never too many as long as each has its own flavor like a real city. My campaign features the following: Metropolis, Delaware The famed "City of Tomorrow" and "Home of Superman" has managed to keep up to date with every modern advance in metropolitan technology. The citizenry views itself as progressive and consistently votes in the administration and council most willing to spend the money to keep education and infrastructure top priorities. For the last ten years, Metropolis has topped the list of the Top 5 Places to Live. Millenium City, Michigan Built on the ruins of Detroit after the highly destructive battle between the Fantastic Four (Marvel Magaverse version) and a Godzilla-inspired "Extra-Dimensional Megafauna", Millenium City benefitted from the latest technologies and schools of civic design. Building from the ground up enabled Millenium City to surpass Metropolis as the most high tech city in the US. Star City, California It's not technically correct to call Star City an actual city. It's rather a successful experiment in "decivilization" that took on a life of its own. Spanning three counties on the Northern California Pacific coast, Star City consists of scores of smaller enclaves connected by ultra-fast digital communication trunks and a mag-rail transit system. Star City is considered the last remaining refuge of hippy culture. Coast City, Oregon Built on the Oregon coast by hi-tech visionaries with an eco-friendly agenda, Coast City is a paragon of ecologically integrated municipal planning. All power generation and transportation must utilize "Clean & Green" technologies, and industry operates under the close supervision of citizen oversight groups. Coast City has the highest cost-of-living in the world. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Under the charismatic leadership of T'Challa the Panther, supported by an alliance of hyper-intelligent supers calling themselves the Brain Trust, Addis Ababa has become the shining jewel of Africa, and Ethiopia its bread basket. Drawing from municipal design from around the world and capitalizing on technologies provided by the Brain Trust, Addis Ababa is considered the most advanced city on Earth. Doomstadt, Latveria By dictate of President-for-Life Doctor Viktor Von Doom, no one in Latveria is homeless, hungry, or unemployed, and Doomstadt is his personal social engineering laboratory. Within the city, all labor is performed by robots, while the citizenry is "encouraged" into high tech, scientific, artistic, and athletic pursuits. Adults spend three months of every year in intensive training in their professional pursuits and one morning a week in "social instruction". Failure to score well in mandatory yearly aptitude testing results in "counselling" and potential "career reassignment". Doomstadt has the best educated population in the world, but also the most stressed.

And I've already padded out the Sillies with a cursory pass through the thread and gotten a good start on an appendix of Team names.
