I am so glad you're having fun with it! I recently dug out some of my really old gaming stuff (like...play by snail-mail?! My dude, I am *SO OLD NOW*) to show my daughter and it's really neat to have the written record!

Thank you, Shelley. You're the whole reason I tried doing play-by-email. And I love it. Thanks!

Anything you have backed up and can restore to the  https://www.mactyre.net/archives/ site, I will likely use! I think a lot of people here will too!

PS: If this gives you the gumption to start a new PBEM, I'd love to be a part of that!

You GUYS! Thanks, this made my day (and thanks @Sketchpadfor letting me know about the thread). If there is a thing you're looking for specifically, let me know and I can go through backups. (I'd intended to take down everything except for Red October but couldn't bring myself to do it.)

    Hey and welcome Frosty one,
I’d thought I’d start you off with the question and advice I give every new player. (And have said here numerous times)  Who’s your favorite comic book character?  Because that’s who I find is the easiest to understand and figure out the ways the powers/rules work. As an experienced Role Player you’ll already understand the dramatics of it all but the game mechanics are easier to picture if you’re already familiar with how they work in the books.
Understanding the differences between accessible and inaccessible foci is easier if your thinking about Batarangs vs. Utility Belts.
Come up with a few of your favorites and we can help you with the choices that are best for starting players to learn the system with.
              Good luck and have fun!

I would use the 1/4 Limitation but call it "Only for Pre-tested Powers." So, it takes a while for the character to build a repertoire of powers. The player gradually makes a list of the powers she has tested, and can use any power on that list.

It prevents the lag in-game where the player is building the power.

Also, if a new situation arises then the player can master a new power between scenes: "You head back to the HQ and hit the Danger Room, focusing on making your fire blasts more focused like a laser...."

It also rewards the player who spends the time dreaming this stuff up. I would limit it to one new power for every 15 minutes of practice time.

OMG! Holy Grail predicted this. Forget The Simpsons, Monty Python is the precognitive authority!

I sometimes hear opinions that seem to treat reading a module as a cardinal sin. That's a huge assumption, though, that someone intends cheating. A lot of people read a lot of modules because they mostly GM. If you want a module to be fresh, especially one published decades ago, you should be tweaking elements of it.

Yeah, I agree. When I sense (or plainly see!) that the players have read the module, I always take a huge turn, making an NPC suddenly part of the main plot even though it's not listed anywhere in the module, I add a scene, change the final boss. I'm sure we've all done something like this while GMing. Then the culprit blurts out, "Zenomax isn't in this module, is he?!?!" and the jig is up.

Many great ideas: forgot Desolidification, Shape Shift (hard to believe because I was thinking Plastic Man--would do it with a color Limitation). Martial Arts is genius...never would have thought of that.... The Fly Swatter I never considered but I love it....Tar-Pit is a great idea/power.... "Leaping with the Special Effect that I stretch to a location and pull myself there" is brilliant.

Does it specify that you are supposed to pronounce the acronym 'Face-Rip', and make a gesture like Nicholas Cage does in Face Off when he's describing the surgery?

I want to do a "pick-up" game of Champions, where it's really sandboxy and not overplanned.

I remember games where we basically started with whose Hunteds showed up and winged it from there. This is that kind of game.

It has to be by email, due to time restrictions and internet restrictions on my end.

Submit characters by posting here or by sending a Private Message. Or ask questions. Just send me or post the standard level of character with the standard amount of Disadvantages. You can send me a character in 3rd, 4th, or 5th Edition. I can work across the systems.

    Game is set in 1981.

If there is interest, my plan is to go long term with this idea. But it's also okay if you play a few rounds and drop out.

I like the lack of deep details from 1-3.

oddly, I _also_ like the organization book as laid out in 4e (but for some reason, not for Viper.  I'd use it for a whole new organization: some of the ideas-- like the computer in charge of everything-- were just a little to out there for my personal taste with regard to what is essentially a global terrorist network.

I like the uniforms from 5e, simply because they look like actual uniforms as opposed to left over props from something else.

Problematic to that, I also fully accept that helmets of the proportions shown in 5e and in any comic book could not actually contain and protect a human head.  Williams (1-3) really offered the only helmet that actually looked like it could protect, but he really went overboard with the Spaceballs look....
