  1. Re: Monday Morning Music Trios 1. "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell (Casino Royale) - With respect to Adele, this is the best Bond song since Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill", and maybe since Wings' "Live and Let Die". 2. "Titles (Chariots of Fire)" by Vangelis (Chariots of Fire) - You know this song. Admit it, it's going through your head right now. Not Vangelis' best work and not even the best in the film ("Five Circles", IMHO), it's his signature piece. It's a defining moment in cinematic electronic music. This, along with Cosmos, introduced me to Vangelis. 3. "Gollum's Song" by Emilíana Torrini (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) - Although songs from the other two movies were nominated for Ocsars ("May It Be" and "Into the West"), I think this is the best song in the series. It has unparalleled weight and pathos. It carries listeners through a wide range of emotions from sadness to anger to spite and finally to hopelessness. I makes you feel a little more sorry and sympathetic for the wretched Gollum.
  2. Re: Monday Morning Music Trios Okay, since I have to get up earlier than usual tomorrow, here's a headstart on the next topic. This week's category, in honor of the Academy Awards: Three Movie Songs
  3. Re: Answers & Questions Quoted for truth. (You must spread Rep yadda yadda yadda.) Q - The fusion reactor could go critical at any moment! Quick, send an S.O.S.! A - Nothing that a few kilos of plutonium in just the right place wouldn't fix.
  4. Re: A Game Of Questions Is that stuff any good?
  5. Re: A Game Of Questions Just how far back do we have to trace these questions, anyway?
  6. Re: A Game Of Questions What are we going to recruit to replace a chimichanga? Egg rolls? Lettuce wraps? Hoagies?
  7. Re: "Neat" Pictures What, no spoiler for gory pictures?
  8. Re: A Game Of Questions Without Burrito Boy, who will keep this thread going?
  9. Re: A Game Of Questions Is that a rhetorical question?
  10. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I've tried the new fish bite things. They're not bad. Not great, but not bad. You can taste fish and breading in about equal measure.
  11. Re: Answers & Questions Q - Is it true that Girl Genius is really just a thinly-veiled fictionalization of the history of the Ottoman Empire? A - I'd trade both of 'em, plus a second round draft pick, for that sandwich you're about to eat.
  12. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat The 'business' in question is the State Legislature.
  13. Re: Monday Morning Music Trios My three choices: 1) "Hello Again" by The Cars - I think everyone owned Heartbeat City back in the day. It was the first album I ever purchased with my own money (on cassette, no less!). The album spawned several big hits for The Cars. "Hello Again" wasn't one of the hits, but it was my favorite song in the album. 2) "You're the Inspiration" by Chicago - Chicago 17 was another album that everyone owned. Without this song, I would never have become interested in Chicago--and never discovered the really awesome music they made early in their career. 3) "No One Is To Blame" by Howard Jones - I actually prefer the minimalist album version of this song to the Phil Collins-produced remake that sold so many copies. I need to get that album on CD some time. Your turn!
  14. Re: Monday Morning Music Trios We'll start with an easy one. This week's musical topic: Three songs you liked in high school.
  15. There seems to be a lot of passion about music here. This is a little game to open up conversations about music. Each week, I (or a designated guest commenter) will post a music category and ask for three responses. Respond in as much detail as you like: Song titles, background information, commentary, video links, whatever. Have fun with it, and share your musical knowledge, expertise, and opinions.
  16. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Lady Pariah used to be a big fan of Pepsi. Ever since her pregnancy--which included six months of hydration by I.V.--she hasn't been able to drink the stuff. The caffeine is too much for her now.
  17. Re: Answers & Questions Q - My basketball team has an 8½ foot Ukrainian. How are you going to beat that? A - Osvaldo's groceries.
  18. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat You've spent more on advertising the movie than you did on the movie itself.
  19. Re: Answers & Questions Q - Okay, I'll take to easy way out and make a gratuitous Twilight comment. Is that so wrong? A - Like Kanye West trying to solve a Rubik's Cube.
  20. Re: "Neat" Pictures The U.S. and the U.K.--two nations separated by a common language.
