Re: Monday Morning Music Trios
1. "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell (Casino Royale) - With respect to Adele, this is the best Bond song since Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill", and maybe since Wings' "Live and Let Die".
2. "Titles (Chariots of Fire)" by Vangelis (Chariots of Fire) - You know this song. Admit it, it's going through your head right now. Not Vangelis' best work and not even the best in the film ("Five Circles", IMHO), it's his signature piece. It's a defining moment in cinematic electronic music. This, along with Cosmos, introduced me to Vangelis.
3. "Gollum's Song" by Emilíana Torrini (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) - Although songs from the other two movies were nominated for Ocsars ("May It Be" and "Into the West"), I think this is the best song in the series. It has unparalleled weight and pathos. It carries listeners through a wide range of emotions from sadness to anger to spite and finally to hopelessness. I makes you feel a little more sorry and sympathetic for the wretched Gollum.
