    Harry Dresden

Re: Harry Dresden One thing the show never seems to really touch upon is the fact that his level of magic and technology don't really mix well. He can't go near computers or they puff smoke and die. His car (an old VW Beetle) works for him (when it isn't too beat up) because it is lower tech. Electricity doesn't work for him for very long, so heaters, AC, elevators, etc.. fail pretty regularly around him if he doesn't try hard to hold back his magic (aura?). So, he gets lots of nice cold showers since water pressure works, but not a water heater. He uses candles since light bulbs don't seem to last long. His blasting rod is a fire focus, his staff is an air focus.. Without them he uses up a lot of energy to try and get off similar, though less controlled, effects. He can't do TK. He simulates it with air control (such as summoning his staff to him by using the wind to pick it up). His duster has been enchanted from the beginning (Storm Front) to act as a barrier providing him with rPD/PD. The charm bracelet stops kinetic energy, but not other forms like heat or cold. He can control the shape and orientation of the shield, but he can't keep it up without some effort (so it doesn't stay up if he isn't awake and choosing to power it). The rings build up kinetic energy by absorbing energy when he moves (making it take a little more effort to walk, but not noticeable).
  2. Re: Hi, Gene! Magic, Sanitation and Cleanliness If you grow up with it you don't notice it. In Fantasy RPGs the women also all seem to have shaved legs and armpits, have seen dentists and have access to soaps and shampoos.
  3. Re: Logic v Balance A skydiver isn't in free fall anymore once they open their 'chute. Now they are using their Transfam and appropriate skill for flying the 'chute to a target.
  4. Re: Hangliding and Hero If it is legal for people to walk around with the gun in the open, then why should it draw notice. In quite a few states it is pretty normal to see someone with a handgun in a holster (and I'm not talking about a cop). Nobody stops them or does anything because it is legal for them to carry it without any permits. Same things apply in HERO. If it isn't concealed and carrying an item of that type is not normal, then it will draw notice, whether points were paid for it or not. So, while a handgun in the midwest wouldn't draw any undue attention, walking around with a high-powered rifle definitely would draw notice.
  5. Re: PRE Attacks for scary creatures Given that there are many ways to build up various powers that give similar effects, but drastic difference in costs, it probably is better to just try to build it how you want and not worry about the actual cost of the NPC. Just from pure luck of the dice we had a 225pt character beat a 580pt NPC in just over two of his phases.
  6. Re: Godsend Agenda D6 by Khepera Publishing I've only been playing HERO for a few months now, but I've owned copies of these books from Khepera. They seem very similar in that powers are given as basic elements then ads/limits are used to define the power. I got lucky and got it on the full color print of D6 Powers and I really like it. Heroes come in various ranks from just slightly more powerful than the average person to "OMG, he just beat up superman" or so it would seem from putting them together.
  7. Re: smallville stats In the few episodes I've seen he can outrace aircraft while still on the ground. He runs so fast that he is basically a blur to anyone standing beside the road which definitely puts him up above NASCAR speeds (200mph).
