Hey input jack, thank you for your kind words.

RDU neil is right, boy howdy did I struggle with inking. But I use a brush for *most* of my inking. I ink on everything from vellum, to bristol to illustrationboard, illo board being my favorite, but I only use it for big projects like the hidden lands cover.

For most of these commissions, I use bristol that comes for inkjets. It isn't the greatest quality, but it is fair.
Certianly works for pumping out tons of sinlge figure illos.

The commission below I did use a tech pen to do some of the tech "bits" simply for control. But the long lines were used with a brush and Black Magic ink (higgens, I think). I use Winter Harvest Kolinsky #2 brush. It is not as expensive as the famed Winsor Newton Series 7, but it is a better brush in my experience (I've gone through about 5 W&Ns.).

Gary Martin's "The Art of Comic Book Inking" is the book I wish I had when I started. It is awesome. It has diagrams for using a brush. It took me years to figure out I had more control if I held my brush like a calligrapher. duh. The book diagrams that quite nicely.

Think about line weight. That is the key. And it should be thought of in the pencil stages. Think about outside lines being thicker... or things close up... are thicker lined. Think about breaking that rule, when can a black shape in the background make the foreground move up...

Anyway, here is a Death Tribble request:

As I said in e-mail... these are perfect... really capture the character's essence. Thanks a lot! I know E likes his, and I hope M will as well.

Had a big game Friday night. A bunch of cosmic stuff that has been building for years (literally) in my game is beginning to come to a head. Alien invasions, multiple earths, secrets of the old gods, the passing of the Progenitors, etc. A bunch of the big name heroes were gathered.

Meeting one of the last Progenitors he looks at Vengeance, the super-ninja who has become one of "the Blood."

Progenitor: Ah... the new carrier. (looks at Vengeance like you'd size up a prize breeding cow) How many of your progeny have reached maturity?

    Vengeance: (eyes wide) uh... WHAT?

Progenitor: How many of your offspring have survived to self sufficience?

Vengeance: (incredulous) I don't have any kids!

Progeniotr: (looking him up and down, concerned, almost angry) Are you defective?

Vengeance: What? No... I mean... I have a girlfriend and we've thought about... getting... (looks at all the others watching him) and I don't know if she wants kids... (waves hands and backs off) Wait. I am REALLY uncomfortable talking about this!

    -------

"Throw me the ninja!" (In the same tone as "Show me the money!")

Much of the battle took place about a mile in the air, vs. an Azure Empirial Command Frigate... poor Vengeance had to be hauled along by the rest of the team who could fly... and passing him off as they engaged in battle generated the above recurring comment.

    -------

Three of the heroes have armor/suits made of a unique substance called Crystal Tech and they had made a plan to fuse their foci in an attempt to communicate with a giant, living manifestation of crys-tech. Before this could happen, they had to battle the Azure warcraft. The main blow of the battle was delivered by Centurion (one of the three with armor) who performed a full, non-combat speed Move-Through head-on with the incoming ship also travelling about 1000 mph and the size of a naval destroyer. Just before he hits the breach for a truly massive impact...

Locke to Vector: "Uh... we can still do this plan with two suits... right?"

This actually isn't from my gaming group, it's from my last performance review at work. It was me, my boss and my boss's boss. We were going down a list of "evaluation factors" (quality of work, quantity of work, dependability, showing initiative, attitude, etc.) when the following exchange took place.

    Boss: "Okay, initiative..."

Me (unable to stop myself): "I rolled a six."

    Boss: "Huh?"

Boss's boss: "Yeah, but I got surprise on you."

Boss: "What are you two talking about?"

I had no idea my boss's boss was an ex-gamer!

"The more the merrier. It’s been a while since I ran a large-scale session, but I’m up for it. What characters are they likely to play, and do you have a quick overview of each one so I have some idea how to kill them?"

A woman caught in mystical cross fire during Takofanes first travails across the States is now able to change herself into the patritic devil Liberty Helle. Tragically because Takofanes is that evil that is why the poor woman, whose identity must be forever kept secret, transforms into a devil form rather than an angel. She now fights for the cause of America !

That is the basic story fed to the US and world media. And it is an absolute and utter lie. Liberty Helle isn't a woman who changes into devil form, she's a devil able to take human form. For reasons unknown she chooses to fight on the side of the angels (she herself as said that she is here to fight for 'truth, justice and the American way'). The White House has distanced itself from her but Liberty Helle is a welcome sight in New England where she battles evil with a will and generally sunny demeanour that belies her appearance.

Okay, here are two. I've got a bunch more to do. If you have been waiting for yours, I apologize.

Right now, I only have 1 publisher's project on my desk... a cover... in between working on that, I will be cranking on commissions. 1 publisher project is actually pretty light for me.

We had a fantasy campaign where one character attempted a to brew beer.

His first attempt was a 17 rolled failure. We all got a good laugh at the nasty taste endured by our characters as they sampled it.

In a second game, he tried again... and rolled an 18! With this attempt, he inadvertently poisoned half the Duke's party... (not lethal, just sick)... and after many years in that campaign, the joke was always there that the Duke Tey (my character) still had a few kegs of the now legendary brew, and sold it to the local dwarves as solvent/paint thinner/grease cleaner... whatever. That mythical brew lasted years longer than the character who created it.

    Necessary Evil game...

Our villains... on the run... come across some suped up gang types working with a K'tharin and using V'sori tech. My mini-brick Cannonball and an atlantean female fugitive (no name we know yet. I call her fish-girl.) are fighting the K'tharin... a giant humanoid shark alien.

I finally land a massive blow, taking him down after a difficult struggle.

    As the shark dude drops.

Fish-Girl: batting eyelashes and saying sweetly... "You could have at least let me land that last blow."

Cannonball: "Oh... uh..." bending over and lifting the body, "I can hold him up for you!"

    ------

Fish-girl suddenly goes psycho and begins stab/blasting the quickly dead K'tharin over and over again with her electro-lance!

Cannonball: "YIPES!" dropping the body as it jerks and twitches under her assualt. "Aaaahhh!! It's a fish fry!"

Then... sniff... sniff.... "Hmmm... I need some tarter sauce."

Me: Wouldn't that be "plussey onesey?"

Rest of the night... "Right on the nosey!" was a very common phrase!

Later... as my poor GMing connected with exhaustion, I tried to describe a terrorist gunman jumping into a communter plane.

Me: Ok... he's wearing a baklava!

Everyone stares and I immediately realize what I said... Laughter...

Eric: That would be balaclava...?" snort!

Me: Yeah, no pastry stuck to his forehead! (shaking my own head)

But I couldn't stop there... no... I then try to continue describing him further...
