  1. Re: Re-introducing COM to 6th Edition Clearly this isn't going to work, so have fun with the pointless arguments. Hopefully this thread will die soon.
  2. Re: Re-introducing COM to 6th Edition Could people please stay on topic or just not post to this thread? The topic, for those who need a refresher, is: re-introducing COM in 6th Edition for those that want to, and various ways to use it. If you see an argument that the new way is flawed/correct or anything of the sort, please ignore it (and possibly Ignore the poster, if you feel it necessary) and move on. Feel free to continue the argument elsewhere, if you must. Edit: And thanks to nexus for pointing out the original request.
  3. Re: Build Your CU Characters With This Builder Is this the one they mentioned on the CO boards, or an independent one?
  4. Re: Re-introducing COM to 6th Edition Odd Thoughts No One Will Use Posting these mainly in case it sparks a better idea than I am able to express. I. Sub-PRE For this first one, apologies to Hugh, whose thoughts on the matter made me think of this but I blame my own mind for warping it so horribly: Take Presence and break it down into two or more different sub categories. So, for instance, Impressiveness (IMP) and COM. For any given use of PRE, add all of the sub categories up that apply (or to get really out there, average them) to figure out how much applies. So, you might have: PRE 20 IMP 15 COM 5 Use them all unless the use is inappropriate. Most people are impressed by good looks, for instance, whether they are attracted to you otherwise or not, so it would normally count, but wouldn't for an alien life form (maybe, lots of work out there has them affected as well) or someone that's jealous of your good looks. You could also break the COM down still further, say, on the basis of what sense it affects. So, Smell COM for smelling nice wouldn't work on someone with no sense of smell, Looks wouldn't work on the blind. II. Bonus to PRE for using Casual PRE. While PRE Attacks are 0 Phase Actions, they do still require doing something. Casual PRE would be a way to use it just when you walk into a room, to make an immediate impression just because you have that special something. COM would naturally add to this, possibly causing jaws to drop and so on. So, aside from some rolls being based on it, it could add 1/10 points up to full normal PRE for this purpose. So, a character with 50 PRE and 30 COM would have an 8d6 Casual PRE Attack.
  5. Perfectly happy to let this thread die if someone must start another, but it should probably start somewhere. This thread is intended for people who want COM to be returned to their game as a house ruled Characteristic, to share ideas about what place it can play in the game. It is not a place to post arguments for or against its appropriateness in the game for anyone else or as an officially supported rule, so please post such elsewhere. Of course, the easiest thing to do is just port it over as-is from the previous edition, including the Complementary roll. However, I personally think it may be more interesting to have an Appearance characteristic, most likely again complementary to PRE, that functions by special effect and can include things other than being handsome/beautiful. After all, STR can be muscle power or gear power or low-range Telekinetic power, couldn't Comeliness also have different special effects than being good-looking specifically? Or maybe not.
  6. Re: 6e Discussion: Combat Values Only if you want to start with the premise that not all characters have all Characteristics. The ones in 6th Edition, agree that it's important or not, are all distinct from another in mechanical effect, which was the only criteria Steve appeared to use.
  7. Re: What is the change of Hand Attack in 6e ? The Power itself hasn't changed much, just in the value of the mandatory Limitation. However, the adding damage rules have been overhauled and will impact how HA works. That's a bit long to some up easily, though.
  8. Re: March of the Munchkin I probably wouldn't include Variable Effect at base, since it doesn't itself make the damage worse, unless it was used to get the All Of Special Effect.
  9. Re: 6e Discussion: Combat Values No, in fact I didn't
  10. Re: 6e Discussion: Combat Values Isn't that 50 points?
  11. Re: March of the Munchkin While it might have been nice for this to be mentioned specifically, it very clearly increases the damage done by the base Power, so it should follow those rules anyway. It does say that the final list is up to the GM. I'd like to say it was because it was specific to Adjustment Powers that it got left out, but Increased Stun Multiple is in the official list.
  12. Re: 6th Edition Question: New Powers? Except, of course, that Persistent is specifically mentioned as being disallowed, presumably because Steve believes that the cost of Regeneration is reasonable for its effect. If someone disagrees, and for some game settings I might very well, then I think it's more reasonable to just reduce the cost of Regeneration rather than trying to get around it.
  13. Re: 6th Edition HERO Sidekick? Actually, I believe that some distributors and stores were not picking it up because, "Who wants a book about playing Sidekicks?" Which is both bad research and reminds me of the Fry's buyer that didn't stock enough of the Sims because he thought it was stupid, rather than figuring out what the customers were likely to buy.
  14. Re: Power Discussion: Barrier Well, sort of: if using a 60 AP limit, you can get a very tough Barrier for the same cost as a 6d6 6PD/ED Entangle. That's the AP thing I was talking about: a Barrier used to trap a target is like a 12d6 12 PD/ED Entangle with 1 Hex Accurate and some Limitations. Pretty sure that in general Barriers will need to be watched with some caution if they're to be used this way. Of course, it could be argued that that's a flaw with using AP limits to keep things in check, and I still love this Power, but there you go.
  15. Re: 6th Edition HERO Sidekick? Shame, really: I liked the name Sidekick. But as I understand it, people got confused by the name and thought it was a book about playing Sidekicks rather than Heroes. Which I would totally buy.
  16. Re: The 2nd REALLY important 6th edition question Interestingly, one of the toolkitting concepts involves taking a set of Skills, packaging them together, and applying a cost. So, for example, you take whatever Skills you think are appropriate and bundle them into Detective Work and, while it says this should usually have the cost of the total for the Skills that make it up, apply a cost of 5. If I want to re-introduce Figured Characteristics, that's actually how I'd do it. It loses the formula, but what benefit I find in them is derived (sorry ) from the bundle, and possibly the cost break for some games, not the calculation.
  17. Re: Power Discussion: Barrier There would have been some benefit if it had been, since then some odd Active Point things would be eliminated. For instance, the use of a Barrier to cage a target can be bought as an Entangle with several Advantages and Limitations that come out to roughly the same real cost, but around twice as many AP. The drawback is that it would make Barrier more complex and eliminate the straightforward Entangle, neither of which are really desirable. Ultimately probably better to have the GM reign it in when necessary. While we have an official answer, I'm thinking of allowing a +0 Advantage to allow them to be shut off, balanced by them being Dispelable (rather than the -1/4 for just making it Dispelable).
  18. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far MCV is Mental Combat Value, O and D should be easy to figure out
  19. Re: The 3rd REALLY important 6th Edition question
  20. Re: 6th Edition Question: New Powers? Well, like Vondy said, it would depend somewhat on style of play. A couple of extra Body per week might be worth a lot in, say, a Valdorian Age game, while not being so useful in the Atlantean Age or Champions.
  21. Re: 6th Edition Question: New Powers? Another 4 Body per month for two points?
  22. Re: 6th Edition Question: New Powers? Well, to be fair, everything Rod mentioned works quite differently from how it has worked in Hero before, so he's not actually in error from that point of view. Deflection, for instance, makes you able to use Block at range, little like how it worked previously. Reflection is similar to its original (Champions II, I think) conception, though. Edit: Which is to say, rj's response is probably exactly the kind of thing nexus was asking for.
  23. Re: 6th Edition Question: New Powers? Well, really, that's two: Barrier and Damage Negation, and both were mentioned already. A lot of things are refurbished, in my opinion quite well, but none of these are "totally new" and not "spoiled", since they existed in prior editions. Barrier could also be argued to be Force Wall revamped, too, but it's so very different. Or is that too picky?
  24. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #8: APG Goodies What? An overpriced way that costs END and gives you LS: No need to eat? I'd allow it.
  25. Re: Normal Human Not unless you're at GenCon, more's the pity. But soon.
