Impact Wrestling have put their Heavyweight Championship belt on a woman, Tessa Blanchard.
A day or so after allegations of racism and bullying by Tessa have come forth no less. https://lastwordonprowrestling.com/2020/01/12/tessa-blanchard-lallegations/

Not the first story arc as the Demon Bear story doesn't really start until issue #18. It is alluded to at many points in the early issues though.
I stand corrected.

Actually, though I also stopped reading sometime after the 80s, I believe the story they are using is an actual New Mutants story called Ghost Bear.
Unless I'm mistaken it's the first story arc in the New Mutants comic: The Demon Bear Saga.

The relevant piece of information people seem to miss is that Roberto is Afro-Brazilian, and consequently experienced racism in Brazil prior to New Mutanting, owing to his dark skin and curly hair. Then again, Betsy Braddock was turned into a half-naked Japanese ninja in the comics, who was then played by a German-Irish-English-Chinese-Vietnamese actress in the film. The casting here isn't perfect, but they got the Brazilian part right at least.
It just seems to me like they put all the effort into casting the female characters, minus Dr. Reyes, then just didn't bother when it came to the guys.

Certainly not how I remember the character, but okay, if that is his current look, then I guess maybe we should give the movie one a pass. However, apparently the woman in charge is suppose to be Dr. Cecelia Reyes. Did she get a skin bleaching in the comics too?
Perhaps they have secondary mutations that drain the melanin from their skins? 🙄

Well, he looks like this in the comics now:
And given that Henry Zaga is Brazilian, I'd say they matched him up pretty well.
Only if you ignore every other appearance of the character where he's a very dark skinned Latino gentleman, sure. His origin in the comics even involves him being attacked by a racist BECAUSE of his dark skin so no, the white guy they hired to play him does not match up to him pretty well at all.

Jon Moxley won his title defence but was then attacked by Minoru Suzuki who he then attacked the next night at New Year's Dash. This sets up a fight later in the year.
Jericho won his match so not title shot for Tanahashi.
Naito defeated Okada so he now has the heavyweight and Intercontinental belts. Naito will be feuding with Kenta follwoing attacks on Sunday and Monday.
The Big Show is back which is surprising considering he was supposed to be retired.
But the big news is that Brock Lesner will be entering the Royal Rumble as entrant No 1. I do hope he has his backside handed to him.
You and me both. I admit I used to be a fan of Lesnar during his first WWE run. These days however, not so much.

That's a joke, right?
Given that in the comics Roberto is a very dark skinned Latino male and the actor they cast to play him could pass as a white guy, no I'm not joking.

Ilyana doesn't look like a young girl. She looks more like how she looked after she was rescued from Belasco.
You mean, when she actually joined the New Mutants team? 'Cause she joined the New Mutants after being rescued from Belasco.

Illyana, Rahne and Dani look more or less spot on, particularly Illyana. The boy playing Sam, not quite as much. The guy playing Roberto is, as I'm sure you've all guessed by now, way WAY off.

We can only hope. WWE's roster is so insanely bloated, so much of them never get any screen or PPV time.
Can't disagree with you there. I'm sure some of them would be quite happy to actually be wrestling again.

This reminded me of:
The Great Race, also 1965
A period comedy wherein a competition is announced to race autos from New York to Paris. Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Natalie Wood (yum), Peter Falk, Ross Martin on loan from The Wild, Wild West, the longest and pie-iest pie fight on film (at the time, anyway), music by Henry Mancini, all directed by Blake Edwards. One of my favorite movies of all time.
I saw this on Turner Classic Movies a little while ago. Absolutely adored it.

I think he meant that the Shadow Queen was inspired by both Disney characters, not that the queen in SW was inspired by Maleficent.
Oh, that makes more sense.

As a villainess, animated Maleficent puts Angelina Jolie's version to shame. That Maleficent isn't simply misunderstood and abused. She is the true Queen of All Evil, reveling deliciously in her cruel, vindictive, ruthless wickedness.
The official Champions villain, The Shadow Queen (Champions Villains Volume One: Master Villains), is very clearly inspired by Maleficent, as well as the Queen in Disney's animated Snow White.
Actually, the Queen in Snow White came first.

You never realize how dim some WWE fans are, until you hear one declaring with complete sincerity that Vince's inability to effectively book talent coming out of NXT is the fault of NXT. 😑

Hell in a Cell gave us two title changes. Charlotte Flair beat Bayley and the Kabuki Warriors beat Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross to win the women's tag team titles.
And there was a disqualification in a friggin' Hell in a Cell match.

Heard they got the title back. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns into a storyline though.

It's available on ebook from my local library, and might be in other library districts as well.
If memory serves I found my copy on Amazon. Reasonably priced too.

Escape to Witch Mountain by Alexander Key. Surprisingly the Disney adaption was pretty faithful to the book in many ways with the big changes being the addition of the flying car scene at the end of the movie and the addition of Aristotle Bolt. If you can track down a copy I highly recommend it.

The On The Run series by Gordon Korman. It's about a brother and sister who escape from a juvenile detention facility in order to clear the names of their parents, who've been falsely convicted of treason. They have to find a man named Frank Lindenauer who had recruited their parents into what they were told was a CIA operation to battle terrorism and his disappearance caused the Falconer parents' conviction. On top of all that they have to avoid being caught by the FBI or being killed by the mysterious assassin called (by the kids) Hairless Joe.

That was a pleasant surprise.
Management seem to be keeping faith with Bayley. Becky and Kofi as well.
True, though from all accounts the booking of the Kofi/Orton match was beyond stupid. Orton really ought to have jobbed clean to Kofi.

Well credit where it's due, WWE booking actually did the smart thing and gave the Universal Title to Seth Rollins.

No, the timing is not "suspect" at all. She made a sanctimonious tweet about supporting other women, prompting the women who know Tessa doesn't support others to speak up about the kind of woman she actually is.
