  1. Re: WWYCD: The Spray's The Thing...(some mature themes) Assault wouldn't be affected by the spray, so he would play "slap the robber". Once he had a prisoner or two, he would interrogate them to see if there was any connection between them and the manufacturer and/or inventor of the spray. Assuming he draws a blank, he would investigate the company in order to see if there was anything sinister going on. In any case, he would try to get the product taken off the market.
  2. Re: Tell me about your superhero campaigns! My "campaign" mainly sits on the shelf, but as far as it goes it's set in a world that's based on the characters included in first edition Champions, plus various odds and ends from later editions. The plan is that it is based in Australia, with just enough detail about the rest of the world to allow for the occasional crossover and guest star. I've recently been working on the alien races in the setting. The scam is that most of the "aliens" were created by the oh-so-mysterious Forerunners/Space Gods, and live on/in artificial worldlets out beyond Pluto. There is a good reason why you would send your baby in a rocket to Earth when your worldlet explodes... I have a nasty suspicion that my world looks like it was pencilled by Jack Kirby. Sooner or later I will get all the ideas floating around in my head or on scraps of paper written down in one place, hopefully in sentences, or at least in tables other people would be able to understand.
  3. Re: teen champions question 6 resistant means that any bricks aren't going to be bullet-proof. I would suggest that some characters might be allowed to increase the proportion of their defences that are resistant. It wouldn't be necessary to allow them to buy more than 18 DEF overall. This would make it possible to build a character with, say, 13 rDEF and 5 normal. They will be no harder to stun, but are "bulletproof".
  4. Re: WWYCD: Ignorance is Bliss Assault would waver between being amused and annoyed, and do nothing.
  5. Re: Champions Universe 1st ed. I've mucked about with a Champions Universe consisting only of the characters from the first edition rulebook. Heroes: Crusader Starburst UNTIL (Major Martinez) Villains: Mechanon Ogre Armadillo Dragonfly Pulsar Howler Shrinker Green Dragon Icicle VIPER (Dr Lirby Koo) The villains' Hunteds tell us that there are Superhero teams in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Canada. A scattering of other organisations that are more or less involved in the superheroic world are mentioned in various Hunteds and origins as well. Second Edition added a few more characters, plus naming a lot of characters in the examples. One of two of these were described in enough detail that you could probably build them. But at that point the Enemies books and various other sources were available as well. If it's not in the First Edition book, it's cheating.
  6. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu? Not to mention Evil Cultists. The main difference between the CU and the Cthulhu universe is that the CU's aliens, lost civilisations, mutants and so on aren't generally horror oriented. Some are. In CoC they pretty much all should be. The Zenith stories originally published way back when in 2000AD were a published example of mixing superheroes and Cthulhuoid elements. They worked rather well, as well as being good examples of early Iron Age work. The following sites give brief descriptions. The second is more comprehensive. http://www.popimage.com/profile/morrison/012501zenith.html http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/z/zenhist.htm
  7. Re: i need riddles The problem here is that 'crude' can also suggest oil. Then again, red herrings aren't necessarily a bad thing. I'll see if I can come up with any suggestions.
  8. Re: Mutant Campaign Idea Another relevant Japanese mutant: Sunfire.
  9. Re: I could watch him get slapped around all day My selection is pretty standard: 1. The Authority for being pseudo-kewl twinkies. Probably by Lobo. Fatally. 2. Wolverine for being overexposed. 3. Lobo. 4. Cable. To be expelled from the Marvel Universe. 5. Gambit. Ditto. 6. Batman. By Ted Kord. 7. Punisher. By Daredevil. 8. Captain America. By Captain France.
  10. Re: Golden Age Myth?
  11. Re: Supervillains and the death penalty No. The real reason supervillains don't get the death penalty is that everyone knows what happens when you try to execute them... And it only gets worse if you succeed.
  12. Re: OK! Now I got it! This character is better!
  13. Re: What do you think of my first character? Not being bulletproof is a fatal error in a first character. Literally, for the character. For you, it cuts down on your margin for error. Hmm... I just remembered _my_ first character. I'm too embarrassed to tell you about him. OK, maybe not. It was 1982, I was young, somebody else "helped" me with the design and the GM didn't veto it, so it was his fault. The supervillain my character hit in the first fight discovered that Drains and Transfers can be very nasty. Oops. Generally speaking, I personally don't recommend Batpeople as "first characters". They are relatively difficult to play, and there are lots of mistakes you can make while designing them. But if you want, post a draft, and we can help you tune it. Learning to play it will be your problem.
  14. Re: DC's turn toward the dark
  15. Re: WWYCD: We're here for the reward money... You weren't paying attention. It stands for: "Infamous Middle East Terrorist Leader". This was mentioned in the first post in this thread. Assault has nothing else to say, except that he and Shamrock get along very well.
  16. Re: DC's turn toward the dark
  17. Re: DC's turn toward the dark While I agree with the others, this title reminds me of (original series) Justice League of America #37, August 1965. It's title was "Earth Without a Justice League!". It was one of the wonderful old JLA/JSA crossovers written by Gardner Fox. Briefly: the evil Earth-1 counterpart of Johnny Thunder gets control of his Thunderbolt and prevents the JLA from ever having existed. The JSA have to defeat him. Much coolness, although of a profoundly daft Silver Age flavour. But this is a digression. My general thought on DC's current heading is:
  18. Re: Has the game made anyone like comics even more? Seeker and Foxbat turn out to be the villains. Thunderbird and Talisman join the New Champions. Thunderbird also gets his own solo series.
  19. Re: WWYCD: The Invasion Is On... Assuming that Assault has some way of reading/copying the data, he will. Then he will pass it on to The Proper Authorities. And probably some Improper Authorities. At this point, we have to consider which version of the character we are dealing with. Gadgeteer Assault will start analysing the technical data. But that's a version of the character that only existed in a particular thread on these boards. But, through the powers of retro-continuity, it happened. The main version lost his super-intelligence after a little while. During this time, however, he realised that he didn't really didn't understand where his powers came from, and began the search that resulted in him contacting his Empyrean relatives... Since Assault doesn't trust The Authorities, he would share copies of the data with any super-scientists he thinks he can trust, and would start making contact with all his various allies and less hostile opponents. He wouldn't go public unless/until absolutely necessary, to avoid creating panic. Either way, Assault would be part of a network of serious people who would be prepared to try to deal with the situation as best as they could. This is an odd situation, by the way. Usually alien invasions get stopped at the scouting level, or when the Invading Entity (or Entities) itself (themselves) is/are stopped. A whole alien armada is quite unusual. Tricky. Assault might have to consider a "stop the leader" mission. EDIT: I clarified some gibberish which tried to organise this (currently non-played) character's continuity. "Assault was really smart for a while, and then he wasn't, but he learned some stuff while he was, and there ya go". Which is better continuity than a lot of published characters suffer from.
  20. Re: WWYCD: Life is but a Dream 1. Assault (Frank Allan) would probably be a security guard. On the other hand, given his age, he might be working in a desk job. It's conceivable that he might be studying (or have studied) engineering part-time. 2. On the other hand, he has a very strong self-image and has dealt with mentalists and magicians before, so it's fairly likely that he might be reluctant to accept that everything he knew was false. He's quite likely to be one of the ones to break out of the trap.
  21. Re: Supervillains and the death penalty
  22. Re: WWYCD: We're here for the reward money... It is an interesting side track, isn't it? Assault would look annoyed, and then quietly step up beside St Barbara. At which point he would remember to check the area for innocents. Assault has little or no respect for the UN, but has a "less than mutual admiration" relationship with the US government. (That's true of many other governments, too, of course. There are a few governments, however, that think the sun shines from him.)
