    Batman

Re: Batman A detailed Superman is impossible to do on a 350pts. Even if you nerf all of his abilities, as long as those abilities are in the build you're over budget. Life support costs allot for Sups because he doesn't eat can survive in space, hold is breath for hours, and is immune to sickness and disease. Even dropping the likes of hardened defense and lack of weakness it's hard to get his simulated super-speed in 350pts along with all the miscellaneous powers he has. I could do a good (weak) version of Superman on 450 but IMO he has to many unrelated abilities to build on fewer. Now, Batman's just a guy with phenomenal skills. I believe the build above is a solid attempt. The best 350 Batman I've seen is Nighthawk from the Champions source book, complete with gadgets.

    Superman

Re: Superman I'm not a fan of the comic book version of Superman, but the character from JLA and JLU is awesome. I'd say his attributes are significantly lower while still being increadabley impressive; think STR of say 80-90 instead of 135
  3. Re: Converting Palladium to HERO At it's fundamental core the Palladium system is really a modified expanded version of Advanced D&D. Only I'd state that AD&D works better for what it does. It uses the old percentile system and awards bonuses for stats 16 and above. It has classes and levels, you can tell there's a heavy influence. Kevin S has a tendency to reprint information in his books. He states that it's for easy reference but it just seems lazy and cheap. Each of the palladium Universe books are retread of the same rules tweaked ever so slightly. They need to do what everybody else does and bring out a separate all encompassing rule book. It's like you said you could condense all the Palladium GM Conversion and rule books down to one HERO book which would be smaller then the actual core HERO rules.
  4. Re: How do I build "Natural Combat Abilty" from HU? This seems to be the general concensus and I have to agree. Simple is better a variable power pool only complicates things that can be explained with analyze roles. Buy all the combat variation I think there is around a dozen or so with a limitation only to copy opponents abilities is anouther option. As checkmate stated many techniques are described power wise as being the same thing.

  6. Re: CHAR: Iron Man Well there use to be at least
  7. Re: CHAR: Iron Man Again he didn't lift the mountain. He was bracing the small upper peak of the mountain in a tiny hole he was wegged in with some other heros. It was very realistic given the realm of superhero physics.
  8. Re: CHAR: Iron Man Not this argument again. I just read the issue you're referring 3 weeks ago just to confirm what I already new. The Hulk at the time had retained a portion of Bruce's intellect and could rationalize coherently. Hulk stated that he was not lifting up millions of tonnes but merely bracing the mountain with his leverage. Read the comic and you'll see how small the hole they were in was relative to the entire mountain. He was in no way bearing the brunt of any more then the tiniest fraction of the mountains weight. He says as much himself. In physics there are different kinds of force, and you are grossly simplifying things by coming to the above conclusion. By your argument a small concrete pillar in a parking garage can bear the weight of an entire 40 story building. That has to be 1000nds of ktons yet I can wreck the pillar by driving my car into it at full speed. That must mean that my car is exerting 1000nds of ktons of force. That sounds like Palladium Hero's Unlimited logic to me. Keep in mind the pillar (in this case Hulk) is only supporting a fraction of the overall weight of the object. There are several issues were they state exactly what Hulk can lift. I read an issue from 1985 that said exactly how much. Of course as I stated before many of Mavel's hero's have been powered up. It may be difficult if not impossible to pin a certain number on Hulk's STR as it is now. My attempt was merely an educated guess
  9. Re: need help with reality warping character I think you're right about this. Ideally if points and ridiculousness were not a worry I'd build this with a cosmic power pool (with limitations). Of course the problem with that is she'd need to know the system very well and she's never played it. I tried to stat this out at home and came to the conclusion of Environmental control as well. With 5th ED revised they added allot of usable options to that power. I played with the idea of a limited Transform as well but I don't think it quite fits the mold. I believe nerfing the leathality of the character would bring her into point perspective. I'm not sure if I want exploding heads in my game. Maybe if she could only blow up one head at a time Why not; Exploading heads: EGO attack, does body +1, restrainable (Verbal, -1/4) & Burn for it: RKA, BOECV, resisted by mental defense & ED combined (-1/2) restrainable (-1/4) & Walking Nightmare: EGO attack, AOE Radius +1, Moves with character (+1/2), continuous (+1/2), no range (-1/2), restrainable (-1/4)

Re: Sentry How long has the current chief editor been around for?
  11. Re: about bricks and possibly super powers in general I don't mind non descriptive origins for bricks I just find it boring. I like flavour when I design characters. I find bricks are a fairly basic concept; without some kind of unique descriptor they feel generic to me. Once you come up with a cool reason for Super strength you have license for other powers and a well rounded, well thought out character. I made a character Ken Kincade who was an archaeologist working on a grant from the US government. He had been charged with the excavation of a new Island; one that mysterious appeared in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. While examining a cave on the island, seismic activity caused a cave in. He was split from his dig team and wondered the cave for some time. While searching the caverns for an escape route he happened across a miraculous artifact. This artifact contained a blue jewel that appeared to be filled with liquid. Inside fluttering about this opalescent gem was a living creature. Examining the artifact closer he was suddenly bathed in a brilliant light. Ken loses consciousness briefly when and when he recovers finds himself changed forever. That's the condensed version of the story just for context. Paragon as the character was known was the recipient of a symbiote living in his head. The creature stimulates his brain granting him tactile telekinetic powers. In addition his mind and body were stimulated to peak physical/mental condition, hence the name Paragon. "Whoever be worthy of this gift unto him grant the gift of mind and body, a virtual Paragon among men." His strength PD and ED were all bought as normal that's how innate his force field was. The symbiote is just a power descriptor, but it made all the pieces fall into place and gave me ideas for other abilities.
  12. Spoke with someone today whose interested in joining my Champions game. Here's the thing; she's done the superhero genre before but her character was geared towards online, non-stat based gaming. As a result here powers are very broad and somewhat general. It's going to be a big task to take this character and convert her spoken concept into hard rules. This is how she explained her character to me; Her character is a psychic who is capable of perceiving events in dreams before they happen (easy enough). What she can then do with this information is alter the probability or outcome by physically drawing on paper what she wants to have happen. If she drew a stormy day it would happen. She could alter the course of events with this power as well. Draw a car that was going to hit someone so that the event was altered by external means. redirect the vehicle or parties involved. This is possible without the need for her presence at the scene, due to precognitive foreknowledge of the event. If she were trying to stop a tank she could also draw a pit in the road for which the tank could fall into, and so it would. If she's at the scene at the time, she can alter the events merely by verbally declaring the effect she wants and so they will happen. The limit is her imagination and she can only work within the confines of reality. She could not create something large out of thin air or alter a substance in such away as to change it's fundamental construction. She can little more then cause extreme environmental effects and probability alteration. Revisiting the car example; Mack the knife wants to run down Lucious Kincade in his Lexus, "suddenly" he hits an oil slick that causes his car to vier slightly to the left and misses his mark. Secoundary this psyonicist can cause reality bending illusions. The illusion are varied and can effect multiple people at the same time. She can cause the effects of the Illusion to be harmful or have a real world impact. IF she created an evil psychotropic man bunny she could have it rampage and all would perceive it the same way. Usually the illusions are superficial if she wants to inflict real damage she becomes taxed /hurt/fatigued/drained. The character gets headaches with extreme uses of this power, nose bleeds and vertigo. All these things need be spoken in order to have effect Thirdly she can cause people to burst into flame, or cause pressure to build to extremes inside somebodies head, possibly causing it to explode(there head). She can effect multiple people with this power but more frequent and powerful applications cause the same side effects listed above. As with the power above there is a need to use verbal commands. All of this characters powers are restrainable in that respect. Obviously I'm not going to let this player have a writeup cable of all these things. My game is 350pt 250base, 100advantages. I would at least like to keep some of the flavour of such a character. Any suggestion on how to build some of these abilities, how to create a reasonable nerfed version, or any other impute is more then welcome.
  13. Re: Character: Wraith Many power concepts can be taken in powerful directions. The more abstract an idea the easier it is to explain varied powers and effects. The way my players are built, I'm becoming familiar with abstract concept character designs such as the sample powers above. Glad to be of service

Re: Sentry This is the Sentry as he appears in the New-Avengers as it's the version that continues to be relevant (still around). Id say in some ways he's not quite the same as he was in the mini series. Were looking at an individual that drank an untested secret formula to get stoned when he was a teenager. How smart could he be? He hasn't done anything so far to indicate he has above average INT. Toney Stark leads him around on a leash, because he can't make decisions for himself. Maybe the character will grow and I can start adding skills to the write-up

Re: Sentry The concept just works better in a limited capacity. Once he becomes a regular the character loses its luster. If they really wanted to integrate him Marvel should have had him come from another dimension. I don't like the whole, but he was always there you all just forgot about him idea. At least not in a main stream capacity because it leaves to much unexplained.
  16. Re: Converting Palladium to HERO In response to Kevin S on his site. It's not copy right infringement if ; I'm not selling it/making a profit not passing the original work off as my own not publishing it and not posting the Palladium rules in entirety In short if you want the palladium rules you have to buy there books. No court of law would convict me, its true. Just like laws on parodies such as meet the Spartans, kevin has to just except this stuff and move on.
  17. Re: The Ultimates-Need Ideas... It depends on how powerful your group is. Which version of Super girl is this player most like? I actually find Unless the players have back up the Ultimates are a little on the tough side. You could have Cyclone use his attacks to knock Super girl towards the non flyers. Keep in mind Anklosaur's explosion advantage works better on grounded targets. Have Blackstar toss Mr. Fantastic up towards the sky and peg him off with the ranged shooters like Thunderbolt. There's allot you can do it seems like your version of the Ultimates have a mobility advantage, use that
  18. Re: A 'realistic' supers world? Nice, but no matter how good your skills got there'd always be somebody to appose you. This I imagine is why the Authority have crazy ridiculous power. I'd also throw +40 PRESENCE in for good mesure
  19. Re: A 'realistic' supers world? It would be cool if Marvel let characters grow old retire and die. I seriously wouldn't mind Spider-man retiring he's done it all. Characters like Wolverine could stick around for a while longer due to slow aging. The world would have a very clearly defined and quoteable history, which would have little need of retconing. I know this will never happen but it would be cool just the same.
  20. Re: Pulling Authority & Other Genres I was really into "sidelines" for awhile except when the last issue came and Speedball completely 180'd his opinion. First he vehemently believes his innocence for 10 issues, then he automagically flip flops and decides he's the worst person in the entire world. Later becoming the dumbest character concept in the entire world, Penance. Civil war needed a better execution, more issues to develop what mattered. Cap and Iron man weren't represented well, personality or power wise...poorly in fact.
  21. Re: Tell me about your superhero campaigns! well, the game I've only run two games using the Champions Universe and one eventually flopped. I had to deal with a PC that was committing villainous deeds and acting suspicious to the rest of the party. This one player completely derailed my entire champions game. I spent almost all my time dealing with the ramifications of his mistakes. His character Cosmos, vanished in a plane crash. An event caused his powers to change (he wanted me to rebuild his character, and I did). Not only did his abilities change but his appearance and his name as well. Non of the other PC's recognized him, as he was now known as the Paragon. In interviews with the press he would say things such as; "Cosmos is no more" and "I am all that remains". He would speak in vague and cryptic ways which were loosely implying to those around him that he murdered Cosmos. The best thing, is that his antics make me nearly piss myself. When he woke post change he found himself in a fish packing plant which was a front for a drug ring. The mobsters who run the plant found him in a capsule by the water. Thinking the contents could be worth something they hauled him in. Well they were in for a surprise when he emerged from his confines in a blaze of light. They opened fire in shock , and he proceeded to wipe the floor with them. As fate would dictate one of the workers happened to be non other then the Bull Dozer. I would like to remind people that although the plant was a front for drugs it also employed many innocent if not misguided civilians. In his battle he recklessly brought the facility down on Bulldozers head. The workers narrowly made it out alive, some of the mobsters didn't. He left Dozer to the cops who was later exonerated of all crimes as there was nothing wrong with his actions (not that the courts could prove). Of course Dozer came back for revenge with the aid of Laser this time. Paragon tossed him off a building for fun without checking the street for civilians bellow. There's more and I could go on but I wont.
