Everything Everywhere All at Once: Wow. This one showed genre literacy *and* an understanding of good story structure. It's not flawless; it felt repetitive for a while. Chopping 20 minutes off the runtime would improve it. But otherwise, it's fantastic. An interesting story about characters that are easy to understand and care about. The main character goes through a transformation and by the end of the story is truly changed. Surprising stuff happens. Delightful stuff happens. One of the best supers movies I've ever seen.

Saw this last night. Really enjoyed it and can say it is one of the strangest movies I have ever seen, in a good way. Ke Huy Quan, who plays the husband, reminded me a lot of Jackie Chan and I kept wondering if the part wasn't originally written for Jackie, although Quan does an amazing job. Of course, Yeoh is the star and also is incredible.

Officiating takes a nosedive every postseason when the refs all switch over to “let them play” mode. It effectively favors the more physical team.

Yeah, I have hated that for years. It's worse, or at least was, in the NHL, where slower grabby teams become much better against skilled teams just as you should be highlighting said skills when in national spotlight. And you are right, that is what it felt like in that game.

  3. I felt like the Charger defense changed in 2nd half. in first half, they were playing to cut off the run and short passes, but in the 2nd it felt like they dropped back into the deep shell. Not to mention Bosa losing it the whole game.

I also thought this was one of the worst reffed games I have seen. Worse, seemed like missed calls everywhere against one team in first half and then against the other in 2nd.

  4. I did too. it was also the first time I remember someone doing his parents still alive, and they were great. When he was trying on costumes and Pa Kent looks at him in the tights and says Thats my Boy.

I also thought, next to Reeves, it was one of the better interpretations of Clark and Supes, not to mention Terry Hatcher as Lois. Iliked their Luther too. Only time series was dumb was when the marriage was coming up and the comics got delayed so forced them to do the clone storyline to buy time.

CBS pregame.  The Derek Carr situation came up, starting with Cowher calling what the Raiders did, disrespectful.  Ending with Boomer:  "Dysfunctional franchises do dysfunctional things."

    Ouch.  Truth can be painful.

Well the Raiders had a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter, which means the 49ers had them right where they wanted them. For the 5th time this year, the Raiders blew a double digit lead and lost in overtime. That, coupled with the Vikings collapse against the Packers hand the 49ers the second seed with a chance for the 1st seed next week. The Eagles haven't won a game since they lost their starting QB.

But obviously Carr's fault. AS I said to my brother, "I can't remember Carr making a significant play on defense this season".

I would love to see an Infinity, INC movie or series, but it only makes sense if you establish the DC universe, have it run a long time, then have the kids of the established heroes show up for I, Inc.

Yes, but the whole premise of Stargirl, as is, is that there was the JL and her team is those whose powers came from devices that have now been passed on to others. The Infinity Inc series plan was to use the children/nieces-nephews who seemed to have been born with the same or similar gifts - Jade and Obsidian, Sand (who gets prophetic visions in his dreams like Sandman). Not sure who else they would have gone to get. Also, they setup Helix and some of the powered kids from there - Penny Dreadful, Tao, Kritter(maybe), Carcharo - led by Nurse Hope and Mr. Bones.

  7. Been catching up on Stargirl. Another reason for hating the takeover from Nextar of the WB brand. Stargirl has remained really good, to me at least. It has retained that hopefulness we saw in the earlier Supergirl series and apparently two of the last season episodes (before they realized they were making their last season, so might not have wasted the episodes) were setting up an Infinity Inc. series with Jade, Obsidian and Sand as members and The Shade on his redemption run mentoring them. but alas, not to be.

  8. Ok, I figured that Dallas beats the Eagles with Hurts out, but not because their defense decided not to show up. I mean, they scored 34 points with Gardner Minschew. You HAVE to win a game where you 2nd string QB comes in and does that, but the Defense apparently stayed home. Also, if you win that game, you seal up the NFC East, probably home field in playoffs.

  9. yeah, I would not want to be that player on the ride home if he is in hearing range of Belicek. It is the type of thing gets you sent to practice squad by him because he wouldn't want you the satisfaction of going to another team. aaannnddd, might have cost them the division if carolina hadn't choked.

This seems to be the weekend of apparent locks playing to lose.

and the focus on Superman’s early years, looks like yet another retelling of his origins

No, Zaslov figured out another way to save money. He will just reuse the scripts from Smallville, modernized slightly. that way, not having to pay real writers.

<That's a joke, just in case. In rereading how I wrote it, it almost sounded plausible>
