  1. Re: Need game advice, *Quick* Ah darn. Well, good luck.
  2. Re: Need game advice, *Quick* Assuming that the sessions would not run on Thursdays, I would potentially be interested in playing. I'd just need to know basic premise, setting, limitations, style, all that jazz. Let me know what you think.
  3. Re: Anyone running any online games? I'm not crazy about either name, but of the two I favor Winds of Change more. Fortune's Wheel just doesn't jive with me.

    Not D&D

Re: Not D&D As far as #2 goes, a decent way to get around the whole religion thing is leaving "religious" orders rather ambiguous. "Religions" in the game I just ran, and in the games I hope to run in the not-too-far-off future, drop deities in favor of some sort of general supernatural essence that flows around usually unseen and is tapped into like some sort of religious oil well. The religion is not really religion in the truest sense because it doesn't involve a deity; rather it is sort of the pursuit of certain beliefs personified in various supernatural essences. Examples include "the Light" and "the Shadow" of the Warcraft universe. Hope that helps. P.S. - I don't really understand the beef with RPG religions, especially considering that many computer games such as Age of Empires contain the worship of actual historical deities, sometimes being actively worshiped by villagers. Also, there is the above-mentioned scenario with actors playing their role. Then again perhaps this whole issue stems from my difficulty understanding how a competent actual deity could possibly be offended by an obviously pretend game deity in the first place...
  5. Re: If I had 500 slaves... For the slaves, I would guess, 50-75 guards depending on what weapons the guards have and the general morale of the slaves. Not sure about the ranks, but I'm sure other folks will have some good stuff.
  6. 1. How does one "shield-bash" in HERO? Is it just your normal STR damage or is it rather linked to the shield specifically (and thus would change with the size/type of shield), and would one need to buy Weapon Element: Shield for a related martial arts focus? 2. Roughly how many civilians and guards would comprise a small medieval town? Civilians can be flexible but I want to know how many guards there would be so that I can establish patrol patterns, alert scenarios, how easily a small army could destroy them, etc...
  7. Re: Need game advice, *Quick* Ideas for followup adventures: 1) Some sort of undeath cult has roots in the area, with sleeper cells in neighboring villages. The hero must figure our how to find them, hunt them down and destroy them. 2) The main villain is after certain items buried with members of an adventuring party of years past. If those items are reunited then he gets some sort of extra power. 3) The main villain was once a paladin himself, but was failed by *insert faith* at a critical moment. As revenge, he/she is devoted to destroying *insert faith*'s credibility by corrupting relics, desecrating holy ground, killing the faithful, etc. The hero must restore *insert faith* by cleansing desecrated areas/relics/the villain him/herself. Either by trying to redeem his/her soul or just plain old smiting. Some suggestions for a one-player campaign... 1) In battles, have the PC go after specific objectives, critical to turning the tide of battle. Interrupting a cultist's summoning, or destroying X item or person, or defending a priest who's channeling a cleansing ritual to stop the dead from rising from their graves. 2) Maybe have the PC go after items belonging to legendary defenders of the faith who were raised. Destroy the undead to put their soul at rest and reclaim the item, to either use himself or return to the churches. These items don't have to be magical, they could just have a lot of legendary significance, and could inspire the people when seen. 3) Have him deal with villagers who are losing their faith, given the recent events. Those he convinces join the fight, and those he fails to convince either sit it out or join the cult. This lets him feel like he's making a big noncombat difference, and it's an opportunity to get into religious/philosophical nuances.
  8. Re: Anyone running any online games? My guess is if he did have net service, then he would have posted here by now. Shame. I was looking forward to tonight.
  9. Re: Anyone running any online games? What's the dealio?
  10. Re: Anyone running any online games? Not seeing the server on the list. The goggles! They do nothing!
  11. Re: Anyone running any online games? We got out a little early, go figure. I'm not seeing the server name in the list....
  12. Re: Anyone running any online games? As chance would have it, my mock parliament session is starting an hour earlier than originally planned, so there is a good chance I will be here for the majority of the session. Don't wait for me though. I'll get there when I get there.
  13. Re: Anyone running any online games? No writeup this week?
  14. Re: I'm working on Roman Era campaign Also, let's not forget the sack of Constantinople by the 4th Crusade. That was brilliant...
  15. Re: Saltmarsh Continued Smuggling runs are fun.
  16. Re: Anyone running any online games? Considering that Cael is likely to get the first shots off, and ergo be the first to attract the attention of the hag....yes, I have considered the not-so-remote possibility that Cael will be shredded.
  17. Re: Anyone running any online games? Oh, and I've been meaning to talk to you about Cael's voodoo powers. If I were to buy more/expand the existing ritual, how could we set that up in-game? Maybe Nyah's father's spirit visits Cael in dreams and gives him extra power?
  18. Re: Repo men Don't forget pulp-gorilla and the cats in jetpacks...
  19. Re: Anyone running any online games? Alright, so one of the backup character designs I'm kicking around is sort of a sea/storm-based magus/swordsman. I'm not precisely familiar how to build it, but I figure this character would have a couple weather-altering powers such as manipulating fog or summoning a storm, or altering the wind flow to give a friendly ship the weather gage. Depending upon the cost, I also envisioned a lightning blast attack and maybe something to enchant his blade. I fully expect this character to be outrageously expensive and that I won't have access to all those right off the bat. Before I get my hands dirty and start building it, what are your thoughts?
  20. Re: THE HERO SYSTEM BESTIARY: What Do *You* Want To See? I'm looking forward to this.
  21. Re: 6th edition Min Str My sentiments exactly.
  22. Re: Pseudo-elf race as monsters
  23. Re: Pseudo-elf race as monsters No, for the same reasons that I am trying to avoid pre-existing stereotypes and constructs in the first place. Just as I don't want my Scáth to be typical elves, I don't want them to be typical Sidhe either. At this point I don't really anticipate the need of a crippling vulnerability. There really isn't total war between humans and Scáth in the first place. And even if there were, humans would have the advantage in numbers, technology, and battlefield tactics. The Scáth are really just a guerilla faction at this point, and don't see the need to expend resources at terrible risk by starting an all-out total war when they can get by just as easily by raiding caravans and perhaps small frontier villages that encroach upon their territory. Another thing to remember is that tales about their power will be greatly exaggerated. The Scáth are not ridiculously powerful; they just use fear tactics that make it seem that way. They should be a serious challenge one-on-one for any PC, but with a little teamwork and clever thinking they will bleed like any other creature.
